The golf sector is one of the most important assets for any tourist destination, and especially for Andalusia, a region that is the go-to destination for international travellers seeking to play this sport in southern Europe. For this reason, Andalusia is proud to host once again the IAGTO Andalucía Trophy, an event that will boost and commercialise our range of golfing options.
Andalusia is ideal not only for playing golf, but also as a venue for tournaments. The region has an excellent climate, which means that you can play all year round, as well as over a hundred high-quality courses, all the necessary infrastructure and wide experience in this sport.
Our courses have in fact hosted some of the most important golf tournaments, including the Ryder Cup, Volvo Masters, Andalucía Masters and Spanish Open. As the Solheim Cup will also be held here in 2023, Andalusia is set to become one of the few destinations in continental Europe to have hosted the two tournaments that bring the US and European teams face to face.
Thanks to these top-level tournaments, as well as many others that have also been held in Andalusia, golf tourism in our region has grown and we are now a destination not to be missed by tourists looking to hit the greens.
Andalusia is the destination with the highest concentration of golf facilities in continental Europe. They all have something unique to offer, with different styles and backdrops. Andalusia is therefore the perfect destination for golf tourists, who can also enjoy a unique and comprehensive tourist product.

This year, Cádiz and the Provincial Council are proud to host the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) on its twenty-fifth anniversary. It is an honour to be chosen by such a prestigious institution for the sixth golf tournament to be held here in Spain from 2325 May 2022. The golf tournament will take place at Barceló Montecastillo Jerez and Sherry Golf Jerez, two top quality prestigious resorts in the province, perfect for this beautiful sport.
Cadiz is the southernmost province of Spain, with one of the best climates in the world, and more than 300 days of sunshine a year. The province has a strong tradition of golf, with renowned greens including the Real Club Valderrama in San Roque, Sancti Petri Hills in Chiclana or Montenmedio Golf & Country Club in Vejer de la Frontera.
A land of history, of explorers, of mystery... Cadiz is sure to impress, thanks to its excellent cuisine and cultural heritage, with a variety of beaches, bustling cities and beautiful villages, forming a province full of people and authentic places that make the south of Spain unique.

The IAGTO Andalucía Trophy Cadiz (IATC) will be instrumental in the post-pandemic resurgence of golf travel to Spain.
Throughout the past two years, IAGTO member tourist boards, suppliers and DMCs in Spain, alongside international golf tour operators have worked together amazingly to mitigate the issues facing all of us.
IATC represents an unprecedented opportunity to ensure that golf tourism to Andalucía recovers stronger, faster and more sustainably than could ever have been imagined before.
For this we are indebted to the Cadiz Tourist Promotion Board and the Andalucía Tourist Board for believing in IAGTO and the importance of golf tourism to the destination.
This is without doubt the most important event in IAGTO’s 25year history and it has attracted more participants than ever before. This tells you everything…
For those of you who have not visited before, I know that you are going to fall in love with Jerez de la Frontera, and we are so lucky to be able to celebrate the return of this event in such a wonderful destination.

The province of Cádiz
The province of Cádiz is in southern Spain and comprises 45 municipalities spread over an area covering nearly 7,400 km2, with a population of over 1,240,000 inhabitants. It is part of the autonomous community of Andalucía and its geographical location lends it a very distinctive identity.
The province of Cádiz lies on the very edge of Europe. The Strait of Gibraltar connects it with the African continent via a 14-kilometre strip of water where the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet.
History
The provincial capital is the oldest city in the West, dating back more than three thousand years. The Tartessians and the Phoenicians settled here, followed by the Romans and the Visigoths. From 711 it was occupied by the Muslims until King Alfonso X the Wise made it part of the kingdom of Castile in the 13th century.
Cádiz had its heyday in the 18th century, when the city monopolised overseas trade and set up links with America that remain as strong today as they were back then. Cádiz was also an essential stopover for European romantic writers. The city has always been known for its cosmopolitan and liberal attitude, the spirit of which is captured in “La Pepa”, the very first Spanish constitution approved on 19 March 1812..
The Nature Parks Route
The province of Cádiz has six nature parks: Los Alcornocales and Sierra de Grazalema inland, while along the coastline are the parks of Breña y Marismas de Barbate, el Estrecho, Bahía de Cádiz and Entorno de Doñana.
You can practise bird watching, study the local flora, or go climbing, canyoning, mountaineering, cycling, caving, hang gliding and paragliding.

Flavours of Cádiz
Many visitors who come to the province of Cádiz are attracted by its cuisine. In recent years, Cádiz has been awarded many National and International Prizes gaining a great deal of prestige for its gastronomy .
In 2017, Ángel León and his restaurant Aponiente of El Puerto de Santa María became the first Andalusian restaurant with three Michelin stars. Alevante, run by Ángel León in Chiclana, can also boasts one Michelin star as can the restaurants Lú Cocina y Alma and Mantúa, in Jerez.
In the interior part of the province of Cádiz, the province´s cheeses add hundreds of national and international awards.
One of the most essential ingredients for the elaboration of all these dishes is olive oil from “Sierra de Cádiz”, having a Denomination of Origin since 2002. Other gold star products of our gastronomy include wild red tuna from Almadraba.
The wines are also giving us many joys in a land like ours. Traditionally linked to sherry wines, the province of Cádiz is now, especially in “la Sierra”, producing red wine. Nor can we forget the craft beers.The cuisine of Cádiz is exquisite, traditional, innovative and fun, with more than 3.000 years of history.

Unique spaces
La Atalaya Museum
The Museo de la Atalaya, also known as the Palacio del Tiempo, is the only museum in the whole of Andalusia dedicated to historical clocks. The palace was originally built on the old high ground known as La Atalaya. The 19th century Victorian style is reflected in the majestic gardens that surround the entire complex.
The colourful garden is the anteroom to the palace where the museum is located. Once inside, the museum is divided into a series of rooms featuring unique historical timepieces from all the great schools, artistic styles and leading watchmakers. The former bodegas Don Jorge and Don Federico are used as a venue for professional meetings and other social gatherings in the hall known as the ‘Mystery of Jerez’. The whole area is a reminder of the passing of time through the clocks, with a clear liberal and bourgeois influence: a pillar of Jerez culture.

González-Byass Winery
In 1835, Manuel María González founded Tío Pepe in a small winery to continue his family’s winemaking tradition, sending 10 wineskins of wine to England. This marked the beginning of the emblematic company that continues almost two centuries later. Manuel María González and Robert Blake Byass transformed Tío Pepe into an institution known worldwide for the quality of its fino, oloroso and palos cortados wines.
The spectacular nineteenth-century ‘La Concha’, built in metal, is the greatest example of the industrial architecture of the Jerez winery, where some of the most important events take place. The cellars of ‘La Constancia’ and ‘Los Reyes’ contain wineskins signed by illustrious figures including Steven Spielberg or Orson Wells and other celebrities from all over the world. Undoubtedly, the bottle of Tío Pepe with a widebrimmed hat and a red jacket has become a Spanish icon recognised as the hallmark of one of the best wines in the world.

Cloisters of Santo Domingo
The Cloisters of Santo Domingo are the great secret of Jerez’s medieval architecture, of great heritage value, and at the same time a hidden treasure for locals and tourists alike. The main area of the cloister is known as the Claustro Grande, a courtyard with a central fountain surrounded by Mudejar Gothic arches that end in a Gothic style upper floor.
Located in the heart of the historic centre of Jerez, the Cloisters were of great ecclesiastical importance for centuries to the Dominican order who preserved the building until the neoclassical reforms of the 19th century. The Cloisters of Santo Domingo can be defined as a silent witness of time, and today it remains an excellent place for social gatherings. The beauty of the cloisters is reflected in the different spaces, hand in hand with the modern functionality of the courtyard in a timeless space.

Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art
The horse is synonymous with Jerez. The grandeur of its steeds makes it one of the symbols of the city, and its breeding is as important as the production of the wines of our countryside. The Royal School Foundation is located in Abrantes Palace, one of the best examples of nineteenthcentury palatial architecture in Andalusia, with neoclassical and baroque styles of the period.
The beautiful gardens that adorn the courtyard are sprinkled with the Albero sand around the central area of the enclosure. To the north is the Picadero building, painted in the characteristic white colour, surrounded by stables where the majestic Andalusian steeds can be found. There is also the Museo del Enganche, a building in the architectural style of a wine cellar, used for important celebrations.
