PGE Holiday Party—A Great Way to Celebrate 2010 With Neighbors
President’s Message Well, the trick or treating is over, and up next is Thanksgiving, my personal favorite of all the holidays. Getting together with family and friends to reflect on the many blessings we have all received. No pressure to buy gifts, etc. Great food, and maybe even a football game or two (GO BLUE!). Certainly, one of our blessings is having the privilege of living in Plum Grove Estates. I was raised in a very nice neighborhood setting, but my perception is that the close connections one used to feel with neighbors are rarer today and harder to maintain, given the increased complexities and challenges of everyday life. This is just one more way in which Plum Grove Estates is unique. Lauri and I have made so many wonderful friends here, and we hope we will have a chance to get to know many more of you in the months to come. In January, I will pass the Presidential torch to Gary Dindia who, without doubt, will do an outstanding job. Gary has been a truly dedicated, talented and hard-working contributor on the Board for several years. We are very fortunate to have him at the helm. My thanks also to Don Jacobs and Beth Prezembel, who will be leaving the Board at the end of December. Don is a PGE past President (twice!) and was invaluable to me as I struggled to learn and assume the responsibilities of this position. Beth has served as our Treasurer for several years and has

done an exceptional job for all of us. Her expertise was critical in planning for and funding the several physical improvements we made in PGE over the last year. I am pleased to say that the Association, with her help, is in a solid financial position. My thanks also to the Board members and officers who will continue through 2011: Dave Gearhart, Dawn Amos, George Reichl, Guy Karm, Steve Sperling, Andrea Brennan, and Lynn Meinzer. Thank them personally, if you have a chance. And welcome to our 2011 newbies: Maria Pappas, who will take over for Beth, and Glen Prezembel, who will be in charge of Area Control. I know they will be major contributors to Plum Grove Estates in the coming year. I hope to see all of you at our PGE Christmas party On December fifth (remember to RSVP!). Lauri and I wish you and your families our very best for a warm and wonderful holiday season. Randy Mitchell PGE POA President president@pgepoa.org
Last year over 100 residents came to the party! Please confirm your attendance by no later than November 19, 2010 by contacting Lynn Meinzer at 847-397-5832 or send email to social@pgepoa.org. Please reply with your name and address, the number of adults, plus children with their name and age. Plum Grove Estates Property Owners Association will host the catered dinner with PGE attendees bringing a favorite dessert to share. The “sweet array” was greatly enjoyed by all last year and has become a festive and delicious tradition! After dinner, a special guest will stop by to visit with the children! Please also contact Lynn if you have time to help before or after the party—it would be appreciated by the Holiday Party Planners!

PGE Roads/Signs Nearly Finished Route 53 Frontage Road The City of Rolling Meadows will pave a temporary asphalt surface on the section of West Frontage Road that bridges the Salt Creek. This will prevent the road surface from further deteriorating in winter conditions, and it will prevent damage to snow plows servicing the road. The bridge resurfacing project is Phase 3 and is scheduled for work in 2011.
PGE/Schaumburg Streets The Township of Schaumburg resurfaced the asphalt pavement in Plum Grove Estates on August 16 and 17, 2010. This completes the pavement resurfacing projects on PGE residential streets.
Entrance Signs and Fences A traffic accident has temporarily damaged the entrance sign and landscaping at Longacres Drive. The Plum Grove Estates sign, masonry wall, and plants will be repaired or replaced. If you have any questions about Area Control, please call Glenn Prezembel at 847-303-6423 or send email to areacontrol@pgepoa.org.
Fresh asphalt is placed and finished on Circle Drive
Landscaping The landscaping at the new entrances has been completed, and the landscaping contractor watered the area during the warm and dry Fall weather.
Homeowner Information Major Landscaping and Home Improvement Requires Approval from the PGE Board Planning landscaping or an exterior home improvement that will cost over $1000? Depending on your project, you might need written approval from the PGE Board and possibly also a permit from the township and/or Cook County. Please submit a letter explaining your project to Dave Gearhart, the chairperson for architectural control, PRIOR to starting your project. You can phone Dave at 847-303-5274 or email him at vicepresident@pgepoa.org. Any contractor you hire must be registered with Cook County, be licensed, and be bonded for $100,000.00. Your PGE Directory provides more information about which permits are required for various projects. This information is also posted on the PGE Web site: http://www.pgepoa.org/homeowners-information.

The driver’s mother contacted President Randy Mitchell and assured him that the family or its insurance will pay for the repairs. •
He would appreciate being informed when light bulbs in the common areas need to be replaced.
•
The bulbs at the Briarwood entrance do not match because they were an experiment to determine which type of bulb Board members preferred. Continued on page 6

Message from the Incoming PGE POA President Thanks to Randy for his two years of service as President. During the last two years we have accomplished a great number of improvements: replacing the coach lights at the entrances, adding and repairing cobblestones throughout the Estates, and landscaping the entrances. We have plans to change the lighting at the entrances, such as spotlights for the landscaping.
around at night to insure that the lights are all still functional. This Fall, more than ever, I have seen people walking and jogging wearing dark clothing and without any visible light to alert motorists that they are there. Our area is very dark after sunset, especially in the Fall; please, if you are out at night, wear bright colors and/or carry a lighted flashlight.
My goal as incoming president is to continue to keep Plum Grove Estates the beautiful community that was a major factor in our decisions to purchase our homes. With the help of a great board we will strive to maintain this goal.
