President’s Message – Guy Karm

Well it certainly has been a record cold winter in Plum Grove Estates. It’s hard for me to believe that an architect could design a ranch house with the plumbing for each bathroom toilet to be in an exterior wall. Fortunately, the frozen pipes did not break and until they thawed out we had another bathroom in the basement that was not affected by the cold weather. For an update on the Briarwood Bridge–there is no update. At one of our general meetings Palatine Township officials Tom Kaider, Highway Commissioner, and Roland Sachs, Superintendent of Roads, presented an update on what we could expect regarding the bridge repairs to be made by Cook County. -1-

Apparently the cost of the anticipated bridge repair was now going to be approximately five times the amount original estimate. This increase in cost was so significant that the township was now reconsidering its options with respect to the bridge so that we may be back to the beginning for a bridge resolution. There was talk of a meeting to take place in November that would be open to residents of Plum Grove Estates to discuss the bridge, however, to date that meeting has not taken place. It appears that the increase in cost was due to Cook County having a general contractor supervise the repair work. Mr. Kaider and Mr. Sachs are now in the process of getting new repair estimates from Cook County with Palatine Township acting as the general contractor so that the cost of the repairs would hopefully be more in line with the original repair estimates. More information will follow once the new Cook County estimates are available. In the mean time we are on hold. With respect to our recent lack of area control enforcement, as I promised you this topic was one of the main items on our agenda for the Board’s November

business meeting. There has been much communication as a Board and we believe that this situation has now been resolved so that everyone now understands their responsibilities, there will be enforcement of the rules and covenants again, and the neighborhood will be back to the way that it has been in the past. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Laurie Mitchell and Sue Dindia for organizing the Fireside Chat social event that took place before the last general meeting. I would also like to thank long time residents Marge and Roy Paleta and Kevin and Terri Gallagher for their participation. It was very interesting to hear the history and their personal experiences as well as the experiences of some of the other very first home owners in the neighborhood. Hopefully the Social Group will continue to host this type of fun events. Continued on next page…
