Meet our Volunteers Carol Macknis, a native of Connecticut, moved to Maryland to work as a Mathematician/Computer Scientist for the Department of Defense. She bought a house in College Park in 1972 and has been here ever since. After retiring in 2002, her interest in American History led her to volunteer at College Park Aviation Museum and Surratt House Museum. She enjoys sharing the story and significance of College Park Airport with others. When not at the museum, she can be found volunteering at her church. She is also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, and enjoys watching games on TV with her cat Greyboy.

Afternoon Aviators 1st Saturday of the month, 2 pm $5 includes museum admission and supplies Join us the first Saturday of every month as we explore a different aviation themed topic through STEAM-based, hands on activities. This is a drop-in program for children ages 6 & up.
Wright B Simulator Weekends and April 17–21 11–11:30 am, 1–1:30 pm, and 3–3:30 pm What does it take to fly a Wright Model B Aeroplane? Museum Staff will guide you through takeoff and have you cruising in no time on our simulator. Included with museum admission.
Peter Pan 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month, 10:30 am Come to the Peter Pan story time for pre-school fun! Ideal for little learners up to five years old, enjoy a flight themed story and hands-on craft activity. To schedule a group larger than 10, please call the museum to make a private group reservation. Included with museum admission.
Brown Bag Lunches 2nd Wednesday of the Month at 12 noon, FREE Bring your lunch and join us for a different topic and discussion each month. Engineering 101 3rd Saturday of the month, 2–4 pm $5 includes museum admission & supplies What is an Engineer? Engineers are people who design and build things to solve specific problems. Learn the basics of engineering through an interactive, hands-on design challenge by creating your own design from drawing to prototype. This is a structured program for young people ages 11–14.

Party in your Combat Boots April 29, 7:30–10:30 pm $45/person, $80/couple During World War II, the Women Airforce Service Pilots (W.A.S.P.s) ferried aircraft, towed targets, flight tested aircraft, and more with moxie to spare. Celebrate the Women Airforce Service Pilots in style with live music, light hors d’oeuvres and a toast to these leading ladies.
Rivers to Rockets Scavenger Hunt May 6 Explore the region by bike while learning about historic sites and interesting businesses—all while hunting down points to make you a winner. Leaving from Maryland Milestones Heritage Center, riders and teams will fan out across the area looking for the answers to riddles about our Heritage Area and partners. Flying Solo: Fiber Art Inspired by College Park Aviation Museum March 30–July 9 The exhibit “Flying Solo” reflects Misty Cole’s creative exploration of aircraft through the medium of fiber. Cole, an artist and educator, offers new perspectives on the details of planes through her fiber art. Her work delves into fuselage details, such as rivets and stitching, as well as material types, including metal, wood, and fabric. Misty’s visual approach to the objects in the College Park Aviation Museum’s artifact collection offer a fresh viewpoint for the public to experience the aesthetics of aviation, along with its history.

Party in your Combat Boots: An evening celebrating the Women Airforce Service Pilots of WWII
J
oin the Field of Firsts Foundation (FOFF) and the College Park Aviation Museum (CPAM) on Saturday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. for a night honoring the legacy of the courageous and barrier breaking female pilots of World War II —the Women Airforce Service Pilots (W.A.S.P.’s). The evening will showcase objects donated to CPAM by Elaine Harmon, a W.A.S.P. who learned to fly at the historic College Park Airport. Mingle with members of Ms. Harmon’s family, hear the tales of these ground breaking women in flight, enjoy light hors d’oeuvres, desserts and drinks along with a special toast to these leading ladies. Live music, selfie-spots and special museum shop items round out this evening of celebration.
