Not.Alone & Xactli Xperience
Secret Society
Is Not.Alone a band? A collective? A set of musical brothers? This trio of genre-splicing creatives from the DMV (D.C., Maryland, and Virginia) consists of multi-instrumentalist DAETA, singer Marc Amour, and rapper Nomad the Native. Not.Alone pulls inspiration from jazz, hip-hop, and soul music to create a musical chimera that moves as freely on stage as it does on wax. The group has performed all around the DMV, playing at Songbyrd Music House, Velvet Lounge, Funk Parade, and The Black. They aim to spread the message “that you are not alone,” empowering listeners through relatable stories of enduring personal struggle, managing insecurity, and overcoming conflict to become greater people. Xactli Xperience, a hip-hop, R&B, jazz, funk, rock ‘n’ roll, folk music, and duo culminated their sound in the DMV. Founding members Devin Robinson (Patrick-Jerome) and Samoris Hall (EZ Gustow) met in the halls of Howard University’s School of Music. After pairing up, they set out to gather a team of producers and engineers to best express their sound. Xactli Xperience plays what they love so that they love what they play. Listen in and enjoy the experience. All ages Tickets: $20/person
6 | 2019-2020 SEASON
Formed in 2008, Secret Society was created to bring the live band sound back to today’s heavily computerized music market. The Society is that breath of fresh air that most aficionados have been searching for; their repertoire is deep and full of history, tradition, and diversity. The combination of talent, experience, and a full host of influences stemming from the seeds of Johnny Coltrane to The Police and others gives the band their unique sound and identity. To assign a genre to this group would be difficult considering the intermixing of music displayed. “Feel Good Music” defines exactly what it is that they offer. They’ve been featured in several magazines, including Prince George’s Suite and Magazine 33 Virginia, as “one of the hottest bands in the region!” All ages Tickets: $25/person (general admission); $20/seniors & students

David Wright (sax and vocals) and his quartet of piano, string bass, and drums perform a variety of songs from rock ‘n’ roll, Motown, and beyond. Join David Wright & The Wright Touch as they entertain you with all-time favorites such as “Run Around Sue,” “My Girl,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Brown Eyed Girl,” “I Only Have Eyes for You,” and more.

Musical Play:
Missoula Children’s Theatre’s “Robinson Crusoe” Purposely varying from the plot of Daniel Defoe’s novel, Missoula Children’s Theatre’s “Robinson Crusoe” teaches the lesson that reading invites more than observation. We arrive on Robinson’s island years after he and his sole companion, a goat named “Wilson”, are shipwrecked. We find that the island has turned into a tourist destination centered around a lovable singing leopard, a tribe of natives known for their colorful coifs, Friday’s Seaside Resort, and, of course, the legendary Robinson Crusoe. In a flashback, his story comes to life beginning with the shipwreck, which marooned him and Wilson on the island. The entire population of the island, including a herd of goats, an all-animal band, Friday and his family, and the inevitable hula-dancing chameleons, discovers that our differences need not stand in the way of our friendships. All of the characters live happily and harmoniously ever after.
