Dear Aquatics Patrons: Our leisure pool is closed for maintenance through May 13, 2018. It is scheduled to reopen on Monday, May 14, 2018, (please note that the opening date is subject to change). Because we will conduct all our aquatic classes and swim team practices in the competition pool, space will be limited. We are working diligently to accommodate everyone. In doing so, we have made our water fitness classes smaller and will be closing down the adjustable pool walking lane during the days and times our programs take place.

Please note the following changes:

 

All swim lessons, water fitness classes & swim team practices will be held in the competition pool.

NO GENERAL SWIM THROUGH MAY 13, 2018 - Lap Swim Only.

The Adjustable Pool walking lane will close on the following days and times: o Monday-Thursday, 6:00 pm-9:00 pm o Tuesdays & Thursdays, 11:00 am-12:00 pm o Saturdays, 9:00 am-12:00 pm

Swim Lesson parents, please note that the water temperature in the completion pool is cooler than the leisure pool in order to maintain safe water temperatures for lap swimmers and water fitness participants. We strongly recommend that children refrain from eating at least forty-five minutes prior to swimming. During this transitional time, we ask that you work with us to maintain a safe and orderly environment,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation.

Dear Aquatics Patrons: We truly appreciate working with all of you and wish to extend our appreciation for the opportunity to take part in your fitness routine and program. The Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex Aquatic venue plays host to numerous community based youth programs and activities throughout the summer. The Aquatic venue will commence Summer Hours of Operation beginning Monday, June 25, 2018. Please be advised, at that time, the leisure pool as well as the locker rooms will experience higher volumes of children; Monday-Friday, 10 am-4 pm. In addition, the activity in the water may be more rambunctious and playful due to the volume and age ranges of the children. The Aquatic venue (leisure and competition pools) is in such high demand during this period of time that we have developed the schedule and logistics to minimize the displacement of our patrons and users as much as possible. We continue to be committed to providing all of our patrons and participants with the highest standard of service in the industry. We appreciate your patience as we work through our busy summer schedule. For all of our users, our goal is to have an enjoyable and lasting impression of our facility. Thank you for your continued patronage and support.

FRIDAY EVENING BOOK CLUB

FRIDAY, May 11, 2018 - An American Marriage by Tayari Jones Newlyweds Celestial and Roy are the embodiment of both the American Dream and the New South. He is a young executive, and she is an artist on the brink of an exciting career. But as they settle into the routine of their life together, they are ripped apart by circumstances neither could have imagined. Roy is arrested and sentenced to twelve years for a crime Celestial knows he didn’t commit. Though fiercely independent, Celestial finds herself bereft and unmoored, taking comfort in Andre, her childhood friend, and best man at their wedding. As Roy’s time in prison passes, she is unable to hold on to the love that has been her center. After five years, Roy’s conviction is suddenly overturned, and he returns to Atlanta ready to resume their life together. This stirring love story is a profoundly insightful look into the hearts and minds of three people who are at once bound and separated by forces beyond their control. An American Marriage is a masterpiece of storytelling, an intimate look deep into the souls of people who must reckon with the past while moving forward - with hope and pain - into the future. www.tayarijones.com

FRIDAY EVENING BOOK CLUB

FRIDAY, June 8, 2018 - Ugly Ways by Tina McElroy Ansa

A trio of African American sisters reunite for their mother's funeral in this sometimes poignant but often tedious second novel by the author of Baby of the Family.

Joining their father in Mulberry, Ga., the women share bitter memories of domineering “Mudear,” who made her family’s life virtually intolerable after she had a mental breakdown they refer to as The Change. Betty, the eldest, takes charge of the burial preparations; divorced Emily appears to be on the verge of nervous collapse herself; and Annie Ruth, a West Coast TV anchorwoman, is pregnant and plagued by nightmarish visions of cats. Their father, Ernest Lovejoy, has become a passive shell of the man he was after years of Mudear's browbeating, but that relationship holds the key to an understanding of his dead wife's attitude towards men and the world.
