Welcome to a season shimmering with stars! We invite you to escape from flat screens and apps to be enveloped, embraced and enchanted by the exceptional live entertainment coming to your Publick Playhouse for the Performing Arts. This is truly a season shimmering with stars. Emmy-winner Debbi Morgan premieres a compelling one-woman play based on her dramatic life story in September. Just home from a world tour, the incredible Stylistics bring their ‘70s sweet soul sound to our stage in October. One of the world’s most famous and exciting dance companies, Balé Folclórico da Bahia, is coming from Brazil, and this fall also features Broderick Rice, the King of Gospel Comedy. In December, Doo Wop legends The Orioles and The Clovers join together for a special holiday treat. For Black History Month, we bring you stage, screen, and TV star Jasmine Guy with renowned bassist Avery Sharpe and his trio to present a Harlem Renaissance Odyssey. And in April, the internationally famous Dallas Black Dance Theatre present their new, exciting multi-media jazz dance concert “The Nina Simone Project.” Of course, that’s not all. From September to June, a long list of national companies bring their wonderful shows to audiences of all ages. Though we all live in an everyday, digital world, the Playhouse remains your neighborhood arts center, where we hope you will come often to be surrounded by the richness, wonder and magic of exceptional live performances. — Curlen Lee, Managing Director

Legendary vocal group The Stylistics brings a sweet soul season opening to the Playhouse that will transport you back to the smooth, romantic sounds of the 70s and 80s. Enjoy an evening of pure pleasure with original members Airrion Love and Herb Murrell, joined by Harold Eban Brown and Jason Sharp, singing “You Make Me Feel Brand New,” “Betcha by Golly, Wow” “You Are Everything” and other chartbusting hits by these acclaimed musical stars.

An exuberant fusion of Afro-Brazilian folk, samba reggae, African liturgical dance and capoeira comes to the Playhouse when this world-renowned troupe of 38 dancers, musicians and singers brings a mesmerizing swirl of excitement to the stage. Brazil’s only professional folk dance company has been described as a “spectacular display of color, movement, music and drama“ (Chicago Sun Times) that “needs one of those ‘fasten your seat belt’ signs at the beginning of their shows” (Boston Herald). When presented at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on a prior tour, the audience danced along behind them, following them outside after the performance. The Playhouse is proud to present them at the beginning of their North American 25th Anniversary Tour.
