The Campaign for Vicksburg 150 Years Later S ATURDAY, J UNE 29, 4

The campaign for the Confederate citadel at Vicksburg in the spring and summer of 1863 was, along with Gettysburg, a crucial turning point in the American Civil War. It was a campaign to control the Mississippi River that featured personalities such as Ulysses S. Grant, William T. Sherman and David Dixon Porter on the Union side, and Jefferson Davis, Joseph E. Johnston, and John C. Pemberton on the Confederate side. Noted historian and professor emeritus at the U.S. Naval Academy, Craig Symonds, will discuss the long siege of this critical city. Free. Fourteenth Annual Symposium The Lincoln Assassination: More Will Be Revealed Scholars explore little known aspects of the assassination from the standpoint of new information on conspirators and collateral personalities, medical angles, weapons and ballistics, and more. Released in 1989, Glory is based on the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first formal unit of the US Army to be made up entirely of African American soldiers. Their story is told from the point of view of Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, its commanding officer during the American Civil War. Free. Arrive early. Limited seating
