THE REJOICE THEATER Location: Glanvilles Wootton, Sherborne, England. The project is to reuse and renovate the agriculture barn for entertainment work. Site context is surrounded mainly by farmland, farms and cottages. I noticed that the entertainment factor in the area was severely deficient, while there are many dwellings around. Hopefully, the project will bring new light, a joy to the area, and be a tourist attraction point. In the project, I learn to work from all the design steps, from research, initial concept design to technical drawings package. My insights gained deeply on how to make the sustainable design that adapted to the historical and rustic surrounding of Sherborne.

THE REJOICE THEATER SITE STUDY In pursuit of the long-term conversion of the edifice into an environmentally sustainable structure and the optimization of energy consumption, a series of studies have been implemented in its design: 1. Predominantly, the orientation of glass structures is directed towards the south, facilitating a passive heating solution during the winter months. 2. To enhance energy efficiency comprehensively, all window designs incorporate Low-E glazing technology. 3. Given the climatic conditions prevalent in England, characterized by pronounced temperature fluctuations between hot summers and cold winters, the design of the pitched roof serves as an effective passive heat strategy. Beyond its role in temperature control, the pitched roof design encompasses a guttering system, channeling rainwater to an underground tank, thereby introducing an avenue for water capture. 4. Adhering to prescribed design guidelines for cold regions, the skylights are restricted to less than 3% of the total floor area. This deliberate limitation not only minimizes energy consumption related to daytime lighting but also leverages the benefits of natural light as an energy-efficient illumination source.

Notwithstanding the specific soil components outlined, the remaining terrain consists mainly of non-arable construction land. The site’s distance from green areas is evident, depriving it of the climatic advantages typically associated with such verdant surroundings.

The plot is situated in low-lying terrain, lacking the sheltering presence of tall trees in its vicinity. This exposes the structure to increased pressure during periods of heavy rainfall or snowfall in winter, as the absence of natural barriers amplifies the impact of weather elements on the property.

Apart from allocating the second floor for exhibitions, its dual purpose includes providing additional seating rows for audiences to witness the centrally arranged stage. The seating configurations are tailored to accommodate the scale of the performance, ensuring an optimal viewing experience for the audience.
MODEL MAKING OBSERVATION The process of crafting architectural models involves progressing from basic frames to detailed components like window openings and skylights. Solar considerations for lighting analysis are crucial in this iterative development. Starting with basic frames, the model evolves by refining structural elements and detailing features. Precision in designing window openings and skylights is important, as they significantly impact lighting within the space. Solar routines guide the strategic positioning and sizing of windows and skylights, emphasizing a thoughtful viewport strategy for optimal natural light exposure. Viewport placements are calibrated to allow sunlight, contributing to a sustainable lighting design. Embedded in this technical progression is a commitment to sustainable design principles. The model-making process consciously integrates eco-friendly elements, considering materials with low environmental impact. Design decisions prioritize energy efficiency and environmental responsibility. The modeling process thus embodies sustainable intentions, aligning intricate details with broader ecological considerations in architecture.

HOLIDAY CABIN Location: Attenborough, UK This is one of my major design projects while studying MA in Interior Architecture in the UK. The project aimed to contribute my design ideas towards building a nature reserve that would attract tourists to the Attenborough land. This beautiful land is home to many rare wild species and is an attraction for biological research, yet it remains relatively unknown to the public. In this project, I initiated the layout design, architectural shapes for each cabin, and selected materials suitable for the mountainous area’s climate. The region experiences a lot of rainfall, has difficult loose soil, and requires a strong foundation. Additionally, I prioritized getting wind and natural sunlight to ensure the cabins were comfortable and sustainable.

The cabin for four people is arranged in a more rugged terrain position, suitable for difficult-to-access terrain locations of the reserve. All areas of the reserve are worth visiting and knowing, so it would be a waste if the terrain is difficult to relocate the cabin so we skip over certain areas. The cabin has two floors with the first-floor plan with a large balcony overlooking the outside, for sightseeing and simulating bird hides around the area. To address the global issue of CO2 emissions, the project uses all timber products for cladding, flooring, and furniture usage as the most accessible renewable material. The amount of energy consumed in the production of timber materials is also a benefit with tiimber having the lowest embodied energy of any building material. The structure incorporates insulated sub-flooring to mitigate heat loss. The elevated platform not only enhances the structure’s external visibility but also contributes to heat retention within the insulated ground, thereby improving overall thermal efficiency.

HOLIDAY CABIN Cabin for two people is arranged near the lake, the ground level is not too different from the ground for easy access. Arrangements can be made for people who have difficulty in mobility, and are designed to enjoy the scenery by the lake. Having a large area in front to create a bonfire. The project also involved other renewable technologies to survive when the location is far from the grids. The study involved a Heating system with Solar Panels and Insulation Layers installed in the roof and the wall cladding, Rainwater recycling, and Toilet waste composting.

HOA BINH OFFICE Location: Binh Duong City, Vietnam As one of the team members involved in a multidisciplinary architectural project, I contributed to various aspects of the design process, including site research, facade concept modelling, and 3D visualizations. Collaborating closely with the structural team, we ensured that the project’s curved details were both feasible and visually appealing. This particular project was especially significant to me, as it showcased how the harmonious integration of architecture, interior, and landscape can create a unified and functional whole. Drawing inspiration from the natural formations of precarious mountains, the facade’s lines were designed to convey a sense of determination and aspiration.

THE STELLARS 9 Location: Thu Duc City, Vietnam. Designing 41 adjacent villas for Sonkim Land’s project in Thu Duc City poses a challenge that demands a delicate balance between adhering to the customer’s budget, maintaining aesthetic appeal, wisely selecting local materials, and achieving sustainability. As the project coordinator and conceptual architect, I was responsible for the concept design of typical apartments and corner villas. I was involved in the project from the conception stage, developing drawings, building models, 3D rendering, selecting materials, and presenting them to the customers. The modern design of the apartments is in line with the current trend of incorporating smart home technology. Aerial view rendering by 3ds Max

EN’ RESTO Location: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. As part of a team of three professionals, I was tasked with the challenge of designing a tender proposal encompassing both architecture and interior design. To achieve this, I drew inspiration from the traditional Vietnamese tile roofs and fused it with the concept of functional spaces surrounding a central yard, inspired by the traditional Asian three-compartment red tile house. The interior items were bespoke products, personally designed by me to mirror the soft curves of a stork’s wings and made from locally sourced wood. My role in the project was twofold; I was responsible for conceptual ideas and spatial modeling for the architectural facade while also designing the main lobby, buffet, and coffee areas. The end result was a stunning design proposal that captured the essence of traditional Asian architecture while presenting a modern and functional space for the client.

SYCAMORE HIGHRISE Location: Binh Duong City, Vietnam. As Interior Project Manager for CapitaLand’s Binh Duong project, my responsibility was to coordinate with a global team of design consultants to create a unique and suitable design. My approach to design takes into consideration the local lifestyle and habits of each city, differentiating the two buildings, B9 and B10, to cater to the needs of well-established businessmen and young travelers, respectively. My contribution to the project was leveraging my expertise to develop a concept that met the expectations of both the client and the target audience. I led my team to deliver the project on time and within budget, ensuring that the design was both aesthetically pleasing and functional.
