his project aims to tackle the housing crisis in in Williamsburg, NY. Williamsburg is a neighborhood in Brooklyn where it has been going through massive gentrification throughout the past few years. Our goal was to provide a new way of social living that promotes both affordable housing and quality living. The site is located at the current Domino park that was designed by SHoP architects where the buildings designed were out of scale compared to its surrounding context. They were able to achieve such great height through the manipulation of square footage, and at the same time respecting the FAR restrictions. A master plan was created in response to boost connectivity and accessibility to its surrounding context. Various buildings were proposed at the site such as residential, commerical and mixed use. Maximizing open and green spaces were the key consideration in the proposed masterplan. After designing the masterplan, site E was chosen to be developed further due to its complex nature. While taking the disconnect communities in apartment buildings into consideration, the projects aimed to not only reconnect the city fabric but also to build up further connections inside the housing project.

A reinterpretion of OMA’s idea of Social Condenser
T
he project is located on the green belt of London, which is a zone that prevents further growth of sprawl; prevents neighbouring towns from merging into one another. Our goal was to create a space that hasn’t been inhabited before, in a form that condenses a city into a singular building. By using OMA’s unbuilt projects from the 1980s as precedents, this project hopes to discover the relationship between the domestic and the collective where both entities create a tension zone where interaction happens. We defined the “collective” as a social space that is accessible to people & entities that are shared or motivated by at least one common issue or interest. Various programs can be seen there such as a theater, a club, a park etc. On the other side, the domestic is solely a house where it is a familiar space that relates to the running of a home, a space surrounding a person which they regard as psychologically theirs. These two elements create a tension zone which is anopportunity for the users to interact with one another through acknowledgment of physical presence. (conversation or observation)

outhside Syracuse has been in a state of decay for decades since the decline in manufacturing jobs and the construction of I-81, which separated the city in two. On one side of the highway lays Syracuse University while the other consists of a community plagued with poverty and crime. The tension has been escalating and trust is needed within the community. Therefore, the Jones Family Life Center will act to bridge the gap the segregated spaces and represent the stability and safety of a community. We began by studying the surrounding context and vernacular which we found to be mostly American foursquare and victorian housing. We chose to study the current vernacular not only because of its abundance in the immediate surrounding and also much of America but also because we wanted to design a community center that is familiar and comforting to the residents of this community. Therefore, we studied the formal aspects of these housing types and examined what is essential and what can be built upon to improve this style.

O
ur vision is to provide the architecture students of Florence with a regulated educational facility in order to overcome their academic struggles. We aim to equip students with the tools they feel they lack in the classroom and guide them towards academic success. By engaging with our correctional system, students are challenged to reevaluate their learning methodologies and acquire knowledge through an unconventional yet instructive process. The project aims to conserve and respect the essence of the Le Murate’s history. By turning the former prison into a regulated library, we aim to preserve the site’s intended identity while still providing a resource for the students of Florence. So while we have modified the existing architectural conditions, we still preserved the essential ritual of the site: prison, and we have created a prison of knowledge. “The total demolition of any historic building seems unthinkable, even barbaric”. - Jorge Otero-Pailo

he vehicle for this investigation will the contemporary ceiling (specifically the “suspended” or “false” ceiling). Typically understood as a horizontal plane (usually gridded) of modular surfaces set below the floor slab to conceal the “guts” of the building, the false ceiling is an omnipresent condition that lacks design intervention beyond the accommodation (often poorly) of functional and utilitarian conditions. The panel design is inspired by the simple, yet elegant form of a shell. The shell is essentially an exoskeleton and the panel is an abstraction of it. The addition of surface undulations using points and perforations was able to express the organic nature of a shell. Coloration and lighting play was an important role in accentuating the effect of the panel when assembled together. The assembly consists of the replication of a three-part panel; this allows for flexibility in organization to create various patterns for the ceiling.

he SpringLife Factory, located at the Farang Manufacturing District in Bangkok, have been enjoying a monopoly in the energy industry in the last few years. Under the leadership of Mr. Anderson, the demand for kink springs have increased exponentially. This was possible after the breakthrough of a kink spring invented by the late Yates, where its small-scale size holds a gigajoule of power. However, the production has been limited due to the old infrastructure of the factory. An autonomous factory is needed to support the exponential demand of kink springs. The new design proposes a modular vertical tower that could grow overtime. The factory will be a machine for a profitable and efficient production. By providing housing for the workers above the factory, the SpringLife Factory could offer a higher quality of life for its inhabitants. It will be a benchmark for the 23rd century factory. Through various design proposal, a new relationship between the workers and production will be established

a 24-hours competition that addresses the topic of hope Dear Nameless, The public has waited far too long to visit you. Your home, the Hart Island serves as New York City’s potter’s field, and more than a million nameless were buried here. Burials on the island include individuals who were not claimed by their families or did not have private funerals; the homeless and the indigent; and mass burials of disease victims. It represents the stories of New York’s immigrants, the poor, the homeless, the marginalized, and the rejected. Hart Island is for the nameless. The Nameless will be a place where one can commemorate you. The unbiased shape of the circle represents the notion of the self, the eternity and the totality of life. Building masses will be scattered around the site to support the continuous roof, and at the same time, showing the axis to the memorial. Death may be painful for everyone, but it will unite us, regardless of ethnicity or religion. Despite the chaos in today’s society, there is still hope in the place of the unknown. The Nameless will be a common ground for all. Love, Nameless
