Pb: How is it working as a solo artist? C: It’s an experience I must say. I would say being in a group like I was with Le Band is definiteky easier in so many ways but I am enjoying evey bit of it. I have always been a risk taker and up for a challenge so I am just making the most of it. Pb: What is the craziest thing that has ever happened to you while performing on Stage? C: I tore a ligament once on stage. Anyone who has watched me live will understand my name. I assure you the energy is unmatched. So this particular day we had a concert with Le band and as always I was giving my all. I jumped up and when I came down, I could not move. I had to do half an hour plus of the show on a stool Pb: Apart from Music, what do you do? C: Well I studied law so I am a lawyer by what would be considered by many the traditional profession. I run a sound equipment business but really I am a full time musician.
CHARISMA Pb:Introduce yourself C: I am Fidel Eli Shammah Omusula, commonly known as Charisma, a singer songwriter and a performing artist from Nairobi, Kenya. I prefer to describe my music as eclectic as I don’t like boxing myself to certain genre or even just basically boxing myself. Pb: Did you ever know that you always wanted to sing? C: No actually. I was those teenage boys who grew up more into sports. When I was younger I actually wanted to be wrestler because I always wanted to be an entertainer but didn’t think I was talented in anything really so it seemed like what would work. I played football in primary school then transitioned to rugby in high school at Nairobi school and was really good at that but I had multiple injuries and was forced to stop so in the course of pursuing other things to do with myself being a busy body I found myself singing. That began in church. Pb: Did your Parents support you in your Music careers? C: I would say yes but I believe they would have preferred if I was in the gospel scene as opposed to the secular industry. My dad is a clergy man and my mum too is a staunch Christian plus an academician so for her she also felt like this was destruction to my studies. Pb: How did you balance being in the University and Music ? C: It was crazy from the shows to just trying not to get caught up in the hype and lose sight of what was important, but I guess having the right friends a family that cares a whole lot plus staying grounded really.
Pb: Any New Music we should look forward to? C: Yes!! My EP drops this February in the month of Love. It is a four song project titled, ‘With Love, Charisma.’ It’s sort of a letter where I am just penning down everything I feel and how I react to feeling these things. It is mostly about love but there’s a hope song somewhere in there so look ou for that. Follow my pages to keep tabs on that. Pb: What is your vision for this new year/decade? C: OMG! This decade is make or break to be honest. I want to export my music, I want to write tonnes of music and release tonnes of it, I want to inspire people, I want to speak out for the voiceless, I wanna help grow our community, I want to perform at the grandest of stages, I want to win awards yaani, especially a Grammy! That would be so epic. But really to help take Ke music to the next level and to write my name in not only Kenyan music history books but the whole of Africa and the world at large. Oh yeah and label! Start a record label!. Pb: It is the moth of Love and the ladies Love you, any words to all your fans out there? C: All of you deserve the best, love immensely and allow for yourself to be loved. Life is too short to be afraid of love. Do your part and if anyone fails you that is a flaw on them and not you! Live and love! I love each and every one of you .

Joseph Xulu aka Afro Joe is an Afro-pop singer-songwriter and Producer. He hails from Kwa-Zulu Natal Province in South Africa but based in the busy city of Johannesburg (Krugersdorp). The rising act first showed interest in music at a very tender age of six, influenced by various musical Legends all over the world , singing in the school, community and church choir and later joining a musical band in his earlier life, in 2017 he began composing his songs and producing his beats too. Before his professional journey as a musician in 2017 and til to date, he has been a hardworking man who believes in the dignity of labour and works as a heavy-duty vehicle operator while doing music in his spare time. He is unique not only because of his unique blend of Afro-pop and Electro and House music but also because of his passion for Africa and the upliftment of the human spirit in this day and age. The song "Afrika" is the second song lifted off of his yet to be released album also titled "Africa". Its a song that's though been crafted to make the listener feel good while partying and also pass the message of a united Africa at the same time. The melody is harmonious as the message is resonating. Afro Joe is not currently signed, and his songs are released as an independent. Story By: Njeri Kimani | Photo Courtesy of AfroJoe
