MERCY MASIKA Pb: Of all your songs, which one do you like most? MM: I like them all...and I’m in love with my new album though, goodness it’s awesome. Pb: Of all your performances, which is your most memorable one? MM: I think I have lost count of my performances. I’ve done this for 25years so I can’t seem to remember. But it always means something to me when I minister at my local church, JCC Parklands. Pb: How do you juggle being a wife, a mother and an award-winning artist? MM: It’s called Grace. But I have learnt to prioritize so that I am not worn out all the time. My husband is the hands-on kind of hubby and we cook together, take care of the kids together, work together so him being my best friend has helped a lot.
Pb: Congratulations on your latest single, Low Level, with Mireille Basirwa it has very amazing views, tell us about it. MM: We wrote it to make declarations. For we know that a lot of people are going through tough times and what you say with your mouth is powerful. Life and death are in the tongue. So, we wrote a song that people declare Low Level Is Over and we know as they declare so shall it be. Pb: You have been consistent in the industry all this song, what is the secret? MM: I believe loving Jesus for me is the secret. Because, he said OBEY and SERVE. So, I know I must be faithful in my serving. If you are faithful with little God gives you more. Pb: You are a UN refugee agency’s national goodwill ambassador for Kenya, how is that going for you? MM: Wow this one is an honor for me to do more and more Kenyans, are learning about refugees. The most important thing is that people know that this people have been through a lot because of their governments failing. Something that we should never take for granted as Kenyans with all our politics.
Pb:What does the Easter Season mean to you? MM: This is the beginning of us who were termed gentiles to be adopted now as sons of God. It means new covenant for me and freedom for me... That if there was no sacrifice there would be no forgiveness of sin. Pb: Any words of advice for those who look up to you? MM: You know what we are here for a very short while. Let’s seek God with all our hearts because everything else we seek for depreciates in value but the more you spend time with God and in his presence the more you rise higher within and without. Pb: Any last words to your fans? MM: I have a New Album and it’s awesome. We Did it with Tim, Still Alive and I’m so excited about it.
