Happy Valentines PHAM! Pb: We all know you as JAY A, what are your real names? JA: Juma Ali Mazoa.

Pb: When did you decide to go into Music as a career? JA: In 2012 after I released my second song: ON ME; featuring Amina, which did very well both locally and Internationally and still continues to generate revenue especially in Nigeria. Pb: How did your parents take it? JA: My Parents have been and continue to be not only my number one fans, but also my support and inspiration. Despite being able to pay for my own videos, my parents have always insisted on paying as their support and contribution towards my Music career. This actually is one of the reasons for my rapid growth in the Industry. They spend whole nights at all my video shoots, my Mum feeds the entire crew at all my shoots. Pb: Who is your musical inspiration? JA: 8J[ ,IBMJGB Pb: Who would you like to collaborate with in the international entertainment scene and why? JA: I have been very lucky so far having done a major collabo with Jamaican Star: Tiana; in my song DON’T STOP which made it to the top Music Platform Dancehall Arena, there are less than a handful of Kenyan Artists who have had songs featured there, so it was a great honor for me. In fact the first time I got to know that it had been featured there was when I got a call from an excited Deejay

jay254 realjaya

Joe Mfalme to congratulate me. I have also done another great International Collabo with The Nigerian Dancehall Queen: Shay Sey; during the Coke Studio season two and also another one with Rwandese songstress: Neneh; (ONLY YOU) which is still a big song in Rwanda. However my dream collabo would be with Wiz Khalifa. I love his style and I believe a collabo with him would be dynamite. Pb: What should we expect from you this coming year? JA: Wow! After my song Balaa which did very well locally and I was thrilled when it was featured on BBC recently, I took time out to study and also to work on three new songs set for release beginning late January all the way through March. I have huge projects this year both locally and internationally, so watch this space! Pb: How are you able to strike a balance between your professional and personal life? JA: At the beginning this was a major challenge, however slowly by slowly I was able to balance fairly well, and now feel very comfortable. A good example was just recently when I was spending time in the studio, whilst taking evening classes and it work well. Pb: What do you like doing for fun? JA: Play Stations and more play stations, I have a lot of fun with both family and friends on the play station and find it very relaxing, especially when I am winning FIFA games or Mortal Combat against my friends or sometime with opponents online. Pb: Any message for upcoming Artists that look up to you? JA: Put God first, believe in yourself and your in your work, be prepared to work hard putting in long hours, be open to learning and above all be patient, success does not come overnight.

Simisola Bolatito Ogunleye, born April 19, 1988, professionally known and referred to as Simi, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. She grew up dancing and singing as a member of her local church’s choir until she wrote her first song at the age of 10. She started her career as a gospel singer and released her debut studio album in 2008 titled Ogaju, which contained songs like “Iya Temi and “Ara Ile with the entire musical production from Samklef

its position for three weeks. The album, which currently stands at number 2, is still going strong. Lead single, ‘Joromi’ became an instant favourite, ringing through the airwaves of both local and international radio.

Her career came into spotlight in 2014 after she released “Tiff, a song which was nominated in two categories at The Headies 2015 and further brought her to mainstream recognition

In anticipation of her second studio album Simisola, a 12-track album which features only Adekunle Gold as guest artiste, Simi released two singles “Smile for Me and “Joromi backed with music videos which were directed by Clarence Peters and Aje Films respectively. She unveiled the album’s tracklist via Instagram on September 1, 2017 before it was released on September 8 to relatively positive reviews and went on to debut at number five on the Billboard World Albums chart.

Since her signing to X3M Music in 2014, Simi has released hits including – Tiff, Jamb Question, Love Don’t Care, Smile For Me and also featured in number of hit records such as ‘Soldier’, with Falz, ‘No Forget’ , with Adekunle Gold, ‘Orire’, with Legendury Beatz and a few others.

Oghene Michael of 360Nobs described it as an “experiment of the word art. In December 2016, Simi was nominated in three categories at The Headies 2016 award ceremony, winning one category.

In 2016, she released “Love Don’t Care, an Oscar Heman-Ackah-produced ballad which was received to positive critical reviews and massive airplay. The song condemns the discrimination of love because of tribal and social prejudices. In October she was nominated in the Best Breakthrough Act category at the 2016 edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards. She also collaborated with Falz to release Chemistry.

symplysimi

She released her Sophomore album “Simisola in September, 2017. The ‘Simisola’ album hit the Billboard World Music charts at number 5, debuted at number 1 on both the Apple Music and iTunes chart, and held
