Pb:How different is it working alone as opposed to working with Josh? LA:The difference in working alone is the absence of the strength of the other. People are gifted differently and as a team you have fewer blind spots because you have more eyes, and musically because of difference there is more flavour. I have built a team around my music to get the broader perspective, and I still occasionally ask Josh for his opinion on a particular sound or experiment or direction I want to take a musical project. Behind the scenes there is still a lot of correspondence on projects with Josh. Pb:Will we ever get to hear from you and Josh again? LA:Most definitely. There are so many unreleased projects that we are looking forward to sharing with our fans soon.
Pb: Happy New Year, please Introduce yourself LA: Happy New Year! My parents gave me the name: Amos Wambua Muema. My friends call me Amo, very few call me Muema. As an artist I'm known as Legend Amos, on the streets, ule Amos wa Amos and Josh. Pb:Last we spoke it was Amos and Josh, now it’s just Amos tell us about this. LA:We had a great run as Amos and Josh and seasons changed in regards to the direction that we as individuals wanted to in music. Now, we have an amazing opportunity to explore our individual creative expressions and I believe the best is yet to be seen. Personally, I opted to speak from my Christian foundation, the truths that I believe in, through my music and it has been the beginning of a journey with endless possibilities. Pb:In the spirit of new beginnings, tell us how it was starting out as a solo artist LA: Staring out as a solo artist was exciting with a lot of uncertainty since I decided to venture into Gospel music. The practicability of consistent income through music significantly reduced and I had to study the industry and know where to place myself to be most effective in my craft and impactful with my messaging. I would say so far so good, I have finally found my grounding and great music is coming.
Pb:Would you mind sharing your New Years’ Resolutions LA: I stopped making New Year's resolutions. Now I only have goals and targets for life, music and business, that give birth to greater goals and targets. If you are not committed to anything, the calendar will not give it to you, it will stand as a judge of your indecision and lack of focus. Stop making New Year's resolutions and have a commitment to fulfilling your life goals. I'm currently working on my album and launch of the brand Legend Amos, building my company On Marc DS an advertising & marketing firm and working on establishing Legends Talent Academy, a kid’s school that develops music and performing arts. Pb:What are you currently working on? LA:I am currently working on an album that has morphed two times in its creation. People are about to see a very open and sincere side of Legend Amos through my music expression. It is a journey that I am eagerly looking forward to share in the near future. Pb:Any Last Words? LA:Put God first, love learning, love genuinely, listen patiently, live honestly, believe in and be yourself.

On a more personal level, I see creating and experiencing music as a way to enhance a human connection in our lives. As I produce music, it reveals so much about my human side which is manifested by love, dream, fear, joy etc. For me music provides a means to communicate such aspects of being human. This particular EP gravitates towards vulnerability, or the acknowledgement of our weaknesses as a blueprint to develop a stronger state of mind. It emanates from the idea that “vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s rather having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome” as beautifully put by the author Brene Brown.
A
man is a moniker for Amanuel Negussie, a selftaught artist based in Addis Ababa. He is best known for his signature Neo Soul sound. His musical vision is to resurrect the dying soul genre giving it his own artistic twist. He’s working on his debut EP titled: Beginnings which was set to be released at end of 2019. ARTIST STATEMENT “My debut EP titled: Jimer; (Beginning) as the name indicates the kicks-off of my professional career as an artist. My motivation behind the EP is to introduce genre diversification. I believe musical genres are limited in Ethiopia so when I embarked on this journey my mission was to explore as many genres as possible, challenge myself and come up with new ways of telling stories by fusing fresh and experimental approach with authentic Ethiopian sound and touch. Jimer is comprised of five songs with different genres - Yiley and Wedo are Afro-Pop, Ket is Experimental Funk, while Emnetey is R&B and Tropica Fusion and Benate is House. The songs are written in two languages, Amharic and Tigrigna. Story by Njeri Kimani | Photo from Aman
I believe embracing our vulnerability can be our greatest strength because it indicates our commitment to personal growth - Jimer is a mere reflection of this belief. Once the conceptual and technical aspects of the EP were in place, the most challenging part of the process was to make it audience friendly. To do this I did a research on the current Ethiopian music landscape. By the end of my research I discovered two things. Firstly, fast paced music has a higher level of audience appeal. Secondly, dance oriented beats and rhythms and catchy hooks encourage dancing and create instant audience engagement. And that’s exactly what I did. I kept the tempo of each song above 99 bmp, and in every song there is a catchy word and melody to support it. After this we had to go into mixing and mastering which is the process that the last three songs on the EP are on currently. Although each song is approachable as a standalone track, there is still the idea of selling the EP as one set of work. To do this I have collaborated with graphic designers and people who do the promotional side of it. Collectively, we have come up with concept of the album art and other supporting marketing efforts. In the aim of developing a promotional strategy, we had to look into past successful marketing strategies in Ethiopia and derived a redefined version of our own kit.” @amanmusicet
