Pb: Who is Serro? S: In one sentence, Serro is a young Nairobi girl looking to inspire and touch the world one song at a time. In more words, she is a singer, songwriter, performer, recording artist and music teacher. She is also a lover of God and people. Pb: Who is your inspiration? S: I really love Yemi Alade and the work she does. She is such a talented and creative artist. She makes me believe that all my dreams are achievable. I also would really like to follow the footsteps of the original Mama Africa: Miriam Makeba and Suzanna Owiyo. In terms of how I create, the music I grew up listening to has a lot of influence on it. My dad used to play a lot of zilizopendwa; Franco, Tabu Ley, Mbilia Bel and many more. Pb: When did you decide on a career in Music? S: I’ve always loved music. After High School, I joined the Girls’ Choir of Kenya during the 8 months before campus and these were some of the best times in my entire life. I really loved the fact that my whole life revolved around rehearsals and performances. That really influenced my decision on wanting to pursue music and all it had to offer. Pb: Which are your most memorable performances on stage? S: Oh my, I have so many! (I even get emotional thinking about them). The inaugural Jamhuri Festival in 2015. I had just started performing and I couldn’t believe how receptive the crowd was. That was one of the most defining moments in my entire journey as an artist. That performance made me believe I could actually do this music thing. Another is when I performed at a friend’s fundraiser at Alliance Francaise sometime last year and when I was called up, that crowd went crazy! I was actually confused for a little bit. That performance was amazing, with people just singing along to music, released and non-released! One more that I can’t forget to mention is when I host this show called Uani, and I have had the absolute BEST time each time I’ve performed! Good vibes tu! And, the list goes on and on and I am so thankful for these experiences every single time! Interview by Rahab Njeri | Photo courtesy of Serro
Pb:What projects you are currently working on? Which project is going to release first in the coming days? S: I just released a New Song: I’m also working really hard on my EP. I’ve actually been in the studio a lot this year; so music will be out soon and I can’t wait. Pb:I really like your song, Rongai. What inspired the song? S: People get really disappointed when I tell them there is no big story attached to this song. As a songwriter, I like to write songs based on stories and life experiences. Rongai was just an idea I explored based on ‘Wrong guy from Rongai’ and I was surprised at how many people connected with the song, and VJOne did such a good job on the music video. Pb:What would be a good theme song for your life? S: I’ll give you 2; for my professional life: I was here by Beyonce; and for my personal life: See beneath your beautiful by Labrith and Emeli Sande. Pb:What do you like doing in your spare time? S: I’m either at church, having a date with my friends or sleeping! Pb:If you weren’t an Afro-fusion singer would you be up to right now? S: Definitely a full time teacher. Pb:Any Last Words? S: Life is life. Allow yourself to enjoy all the facets of the journey; the good and the bad. @serromusic

MY REAL NAME IS: IGNATIUS OGETO I GOT MY STAGE NAME FROM: my big brother, Alphy. Back then when I used to just select some songs in the house and play and he always complemented me for it saying it was pleasing to the ears, calling it Euphoric. I then removed the “C” and added “que” artistic to be EUPHORIQUE.. I STUDIED: ICT but I didn’t finish because of a lot of Personal Issues, example, movement because been on a wheelchair wasn’t easy for me and again finance..... I USUALLY PLAY: Gospel Music and Most Important Kenyan Content because I believe on our own. I PREFER TO PLAYING: Gospel because I believe is a calling and it’s my way of ministering to the world and proving to the world that it’s all about God and if it’s not him then I couldn’t be an inspiration and I couldn’t not encourage other people out there. I GOT INTO DEEJAYING: When I was still a Child, but I officially started it as a career professional in 2014. I LEARNT DEEJAYING: Spin Trade DJ Academy.
MY MAJOR CHALLENGE WHEN STARTING OUT: was discrimination. Most people undermined me because I was on a wheelchair so most believed or thought I wasn’t able to Deliver because been on a wheelchair up to now the society still believe people with disabilities are there to beg not to work so that was a big challenge for me to get the gigs...another challenge was movement I wasn’t able to reach some places. MY MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS: I can say is I got many calls and messages that someone out there is INSPIRED and ENCOURAGED that’s what I can say my major achievement because I always wanted someone to look at me and say "Because of you I did not lose hope.” I believe playing to the head of state H.E the president at State House is also a big one. I also have Two Awards; i.e EXTREME AWARD most outstanding person with disabilities in DJ Industry, and STYLUS AWARD DJ OF THE YEAR. IF I WASN’T A DEEJAY I’D BE: If I wasn’t a deejay then definitely I could be a political analyst. Because I love politics a lot and current affairs.
IT’S BEEN: 4 Years now.

Sounds“. After two years without a release, he left to start a label of his own to no avail — he moved back home. Months later, Motswako rapper HHP spotted Nyovest at a performance. HHP was impressed and featured him on his track “ Wamo Tseba Mtho" from his seventh studio album Dumela. Nyovest embarked on international tours with HHP where he gained exposure as an artist. He has also shared stages with international acts such as Kid Cudi, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Talib Kweli, Mlondi Caluza and Wiz Khalifa. In the year 2014, Nyovest was involved in a highly publicised “beef” with fellow South African artist AKA, this led to both artists recording diss tracks about each other. In 2013, he released “Gusheshe” as the first official single from his debut album, Tsholofelo. The single was well received and playlisted across various radio stations in South Africa. It was accompanied by a music video which premiered on Vuzu’s V-Entertainment. After “Gusheshe”, he released his second single titled “Doc Shebeleza” which saw him gain major success. The song peaked at number 4 on South Africa’s official music chart. The song received positive reviews from the public and other South African acts including Yvonne Chaka Chaka.

efiloe Maele Phoolo (born 16 December 1990, in Mafikeng), professionally known as Cassper Nyovest, is a South African recording artist and record producer. His debut album Tsholofelo was released on 18 July 2014. He is currently signed to his own independent label and media company, Family Tree. Nyovest grew up in Montshiwa in Mafikeng, the capital city of the North West province. He attended high school at Sol Plaatje Secondary School. In School, he was athletic as he partook in various sports activities including football, cricket and basketball. He started rapping when he was in grade 6, at the age of 12. In grade 10, Nyovest failed his exams, and moved to his grandmother’s house in Potchefstroom. Then the following year, at age 16, he decided to drop out of high school: “I told my parents that I’d rather chase my dream, which I believe is going to work out, rather than keeping it safe and regret it my whole life. Nyovest relocated to Johannesburg the following year to pursue a career in music as a rapper and producer. In 2004, he was a member of a group called Childhood Gangsta (CHG) which later disbanded. He then joined an eight-member group Slow Motion, which included the production team Ganja Beatz.

In October 2014, Nyovest was ranked number 1 on “The Hottest MC in Africa” list by MTV Base. Nyovest was also ranked number 2 on MTV Base’s “SA’s Hottest MC” list with K.O at number 1. Nyovest criticized the list because of DJ Vigilante’s close affiliation with Cashtime Life rapper K.O. He stated that Vigilante should not have been on the ranking panel and showed his discontent with the list by releasing a song titled “Beef” in which he disses DJ Vigilante, AKA and K.O. It quickly sparked controversy after which the rapper later apologized to K.O for a line on the song. Nyovest got a SAMA award for best collaboration for ‘NGUD’, a song by Kwesta featuring Nyovest. On 10th of October, 2017, he was also awarded best Male Southern African by African Musiq Magazine Awards Nyovest Thuto Album went Gold on the day of release and within a few weeks it was certified platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA).
