NJOKI MUNYI Pb: Congratulations on your 2019 Nomination for Female Breakthrough Artist of the Year NM: Thank you Pb: Tell us about your Childhood NM: Oh waow..hmm lets see. I was born and raised in Kayole, Nairobi to a family of 6. I went to Imara Primary School, then Hospital Hill, Tala Girls for my High School then, Multimedia University. I was a very play full and extroverted child who got into lots of trouble. Pb: What Drew You to The Music Industry? NM: My love for performance and the fact that I got a lot of artists requesting me to do their background vocals in events and studios. Pb: Who is your Inspiration? NM: For me, it’s more of a state of need for good quality music in our society especially in the gospel industry. That is what inspires me. Pb: What is your favourite part about this line of work? NM: The lives that are changed and inspired by what I do. Its overwhelming and very encouraging especially when you are doubting yourself or a performance. Pb: How do you deal with performance anxiety? NM: I pace around backstage just before we get on stage but once I get on stage it all goes away.
Pb: Where do you see yourself in Five Years? NM: The best performer/artist from this side of the world. Pb: What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps? NM: Give yourself time to grow. Disappointments and self doubt are inevitable but be easy on yourself and trust the process. Pb: If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing today? NM: A Radio Host or a Dancer. Pb: What do you feel is the best song you’ve ever released and why? NM: 'Uniongoze'. I wrote it while at a very low moment in my life. Every time I listen to it I get refreshed because it speaks to a very deep place in my heart. Pb: Any last words to your fans? NM: Thank you for your support thus far. You make all this possible and am honored to serve you. Remember to keep on believing, Rome wasn’t built in one day. The more you do it the more you understand your craft and the more you fall inlove with it. Asanteni sana.

Jano Band is an Ethiopian band that plays a fusion of Ethiopian rhythms and melodies with the touch of rock. With the sponsorship from the Ethiopian business tycoon: Ermias Amelga, Jano's former manager: Addis Gessesse; brought together a group of singers and musicians. Addis also invested part of the money to make the band happen. They were all passionate about the roles they were given and focusing to achieve the vision of bringing out Ethiopian sound out to the world. Jano's debut album 'Ertale' was released in 2012. The album was named after a place in Eastern part of Ethiopia called: Afar where a volcano comes to an extraordinary active lava. The songs in the album were partly written by the renowned Ethiopian lyricist :Yilma Gebreab and partly by them. This is the first ever rock album in Ethiopia. The audio and video of the song "Ayrak" from the album became quickly popular among the media in Ethiopia. In 2017, they also became the first Ethiopian band to feature on Coke Studio Africa alongside the South African singer: Shekinah; from Kenya. Towards the end of 2017, news broke that the band was on the verge of a breakup. On February 1, 2018, Jano released their second album called: Lerasih New. Most of the songs in the album urge fans to be conscious of their actions. The engineering process of the album was done in BluMusica studio in Turin, Italy and the mastering was done by Lurseen mastering studio in Los Angeles, California, United States/
