People with depression often engage in behaviours that may help them cope in the short-term but cause them more problems in the long-term. For example, Catherine may feel low as she feels people look at her when she is in the shopping centre because she needs to take regular breaks due to her PH. As a way of coping, Catherine only goes to places where she can walk in one go. Unfortunately, this means the places she can go are very limited and she is finding the list of places is reducing as her fatigue increases. Another example may be using alcohol or smoking as a way to cope. However, in the long-term these behaviours can have a negative impact on our health.
