shy fx A bona fide drum ’n’ bass legend, you may remember Shy FX’s ‘Shake Ur Body’ or last year’s mighty ‘Raver.’ His Digital Soundboy imprint epitomises the melting-pot mantra of UK bass music. In the past 12 months it’s balanced d’n’b and dubstep releases with house bombs – and that’s reflected on the mix you now own. “That’s the intention!” smiles Shy. “I’m a music lover, and one of the best things about London is being exposed to all different kinds. I’m influenced by everything, and that’s really why I set up the label.”
3 Shy FX & T Power Feelings “The first tune on Digital Soundboy. Loads of good memories attached to it” 4 DJ Fresh The Gatekeeper “I love the fact that Fresh has gone back to this sound”

Shadows of the Damned In this tongue-in-cheek third person shooter, you play leather-clad Latino demon hunter Garcia Hotspur, guided through hell by his Johnson (a flaming demon skull who transforms into a gothic pistol called ‘Boner’), to rescue his beautiful but satanically possessed lady friend. You must fight your way through miasmic clouds of evil, wall-mounted goat heads (also evil), freshly risen zombies and limb-eating monsters, all atmospherically rendered by the geniuses behind Silent Hill and Resident, er, Evil. phil dudman
DiRT3 Rip open your energy drinks and scream “To the MAX!” as DiRT 3 joins WRC driver Ken Block for a shot of adrenaline that combines the best of Codemaster’s Colin McRae with cutting-edge engineering and five decades of classic motors. Ken’s Gymkhana experience (where you’re judged for mad drifts and donuts) sets this apart as you thrash around Battersea Power Station in the ‘joyride’ compound and outjump and -swerve your mates in ‘transporter’ (capture the flag) and ‘outbreak’ (zombie) modes for maximum multiplayer mentalness. Duuuuude… phil dudman
13 Breakage feat Jess Mills Fighting Fire “Big tune! And typical Breakage, he doesn’t care what anyone else thinks” 14 Redlight Progress (VIP) “The flip of ‘Source 16’ – sounds great in a club” 15 Youngman I Warned Ya “The way he makes it his own shows his MC style. The bassline reminds me of an old Bristol Full Cycle track!” 16 The Specials A Message To You Rudy “I’m a big Specials fan. Again, it reflects my sets and shows what I’m about”

Alice: Madness Returns Reborn from a cult PC game over a decade ago, the classic Alice story becomes a dark and twisted tale of a young heroine stuck in a mental asylum for the last 11 years, her nightmares manifesting themselves as Wonderland. She must journey through stunning environments, brandishing a kitchen knife, hobby horse and mad-hatter time bombs to defeat armoured playing cards, teapots and more, all the while spontaneously bursting into butterflies and piecing together memories of her longdead family. Has to be seen to be believed.
LA Noire Welcome to LA Noire. Set in postwar Los Angeles (recreated in sensational detail) you play Cole Phelps, a war vet turned detective, as he tries to solve a series of dark, historically accurate and violent crimes, confronting corruption and piecing the underworld jigsaw together. A truly epic experience, this is the closest thing to playing a movie you could ever imagine, an immersive thriller where you must read the expressions of over 400 MotionScanned human actors to tell the lies from the truth and confront your doubts with the evidence. Amazing.

The daft and the devastating in drugs this month WAS PIC SMUGGLER FRAMED? Inmates were caught smuggling drugs into their New Jersey prison via child-like paintings. Smuggers mixed Suboxone, an opiate substitute, with paste and painted it onto pictures addressed to ‘Daddy’. Three inmates have been charged, as have two ‘artists’ on the outside. THE GLAMOUR OF DRUGS Two glamour models have been sentenced for drug offences. Hannah Zebedee, 20, and Jenny Laird, 22, were convicted as part of a bigger drug gang for dealing cannabis, amphetamines and cocaine. Laird received three years and four months, while Zebedee was given a 10-month suspended sentence and 150 hours of community service. HOLT, WHO GOES THERE? A dealer has been let off a prison sentence despite being caught with 90g of crystal meth, 90g of coke, 100 Es, 85g of speed and three bin bags stuffed with cannabis leaves. Judge Stephen Holt sentenced Colin MacDonald to 12-month suspended sentence meaning he could walk free, prompting an ‘Off Their Heads’ headline in The Sun. If the Sentencing Council’s new guidelines become established, this kind of relaxed attitude to sentencing ‘small-time dealers’ could become more common. HEADING TO SING-SING An attorney in Texas said he would let singer Willie Nelson off a cannabis charge if he played the court an acoustic set. Kit Bramblett told reporters: “I’m gonna let him plead, pay a small fine and he’s gotta sing ‘Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain’ with his guitar right there in the courtroom.” The judge later insisted Bramblett was joking.
