Winners emerge from Lanao Norte Qur’an reading competition

ILIGAN CITY – Qur’an reciters from the municipalities of Pantar and Tagoloan have emerged champions in the 58th Lanao del Norte Provincial Qur’an Reading Competition on Wed., Jan. 25, held at the Municipal Gymnasium of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte.

Aleem Monib Mangilala, chair of the Competition’s Board of Judges, told Philippine Muslim Today Mama Samir Gulam of Pantar grabbed the first prize for the male category while Akisa Mangikis of Tagoloan won the first prize for the female category.

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur -Aiming to ease the medical necessities of the people in this siege-stricken city, the Rotary Districts 3870 and 3830 alongside their respective Rotary Clubs led a health caravan at Sagonsongan Transitory Shelter in Brgy. Sagonsongan here to bring primary healthcareservices toresidents.

In collaboration with Rotary International, the Philippine Army, and the local government unit, various services were offered such as free medical consultation, provision of medicines, circumcision and toy-giving for children wherein a total of906 locals visited and benefited.

Rotary District 3830 Governor Dr. Mildred Vitangcol bared that they started doing this on July 1 this year which was the first day of the Rotary year and would end on June 30, 2023

From then on, the organization hit its ninth streak of delivering health services in particular places in the Philippines, specifically those classified as geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) taking into consideration that not enough medical services reach these locations.

Vitangcol underscored that they do not intend to halt their health caravan, seeing the number of beneficiaries from their extended services.

She stated that her organization is dedicated to help the Philippinegovernmentheed the medical concerns of the citizenry.

“Sa gobyerno, hindi kaya lahat ng problema sa komunidad ay natutugunan so bilang kami ay nongovernment organization, kami ay nakipagpartner sa government para kami ay makabigay at makabahagi ng kung anuman ang kaya namin,” said Vitangcol.

[With the government, not all problems in the community can be addressed so as we are a nongovernment organization, we partnered with the governmentso that wecan give and share whatever we have.]

Rotary District 3870 Governor Angelo Ladub, on the other hand, stressed that this caravan was under the major goal borne by his organization since its inception which is to aid needy citizens.

“Ating unang-unang tinitingnan ay kung ano ang maitutulong ng Rotary sa mga tao. Hanggang ngayon, we are helping people who are in need, lalo na dito sa Marawi because of what happened here a couple of years ago,” he said.

Highlighting a wonderful experience brought about by the dedication of a non-government group, Ladub heartened the populace in the city to join his organization and take partin carrying out theirnoble mission.

He stated that it does not matter whether one is welloff or not as what is important is the service to be rendered.

I am inviting everyone who has a good heart, not necessarily with a good pocket. You can help in terms of services. Iniimbitahan ko kayo sa [I am inviting you to the] Rotary. It is time to give back. Tulungan natin ang mga nangangailangan [Let us help those who are in need],” said Ladub.

Aleem Mangilala said the two champions aside from receiving cash prizes will be granted a Hajj Journey (Pilgrimage) to Mecca.

He said the previous winners (taspiah) Abdul Azis Mamondiong for male category and Solaica Sultan for the female category will represent the province in the forthcoming national Qur’an reading competition.

Other winners in the provincial Qur’an reading tilt are

Male Category: Mohammad Nour H. Cali (Tagoloan), 2nd; and Daud Polangi (Kauswagan).

Female Category: Lily Masorong (kauswagan), 2nd; and Junaida Dansal (Munai), 3rd.

Male and female Qur’an reciters coming from 14 municipalities of Lanao del Norte competed and vied for the top spot to get the chance to represent Lanao del Norte at the National Qur’an Reading Competition (NQRC) and be sent to embark on a sponsored spiritual Hajj to Mecca.

Themed “Embracing the Trials”, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte, and the Local Government of Kauswagan, in partnership with the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), successfully hosted the 58th Provincial Qur’an Reading Competition.

Present during the competition were Provincial Director Husni Sarip of the NCMF, Kauswagan Mayor Rommel Arnado, Bangsamoro Member of Parliament Hadji Abdullah “Bravo” Macapaar, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Achmad Taha, Sultan Alim Saad Ibrahim Amate, Grand Imam and National President of the United Imams of the Philippines Foundation Inc., and former Lanao del Norte 2nd Dist. Rep. Abdullah “Bobby” Dimakuta Dimaporo.
