More Than Half of Surveyed Seniors Have Had Oral Sex, According to Survey STAFF REPORT 662 students responded to the “Sex” portion of the 2012 State of the Academy survey, which asked students about their experiences with sex, relationships and pornography. The results show that the percentage of students who have had sex increases with each class year, as 6.6 percent, 11.4 percent, 18.6 percent and 45.2 percent of surveyed Juniors, Lowers, Uppers and Seniors, respec-

tively, indicated that they have had sex. While last year’s survey showed a similar trend, the percentage of students who have had sex in each grade level did not remain the same. 28.9 percent of surveyed Uppers in the Class of 2012 last year responded that they have had sex, while 18.6 percent of surveyed Uppers this year responded similarly. The percentage of Seniors who have had sex increased from last year, from 42.2 percent of surveyed members of the

Class of 2011 to 45.2 percent of the Class of 2012. The percentages for the Lower and Junior classes did not show any significant change. More than half of surveyed Seniors, 53.1 percent, answered that they have had oral sex. As with the sex statistics, older students report having had more oral sex, as the percentage of surveyed students who have had oral sex increases as age increases. The percentage of overall students who have had oral sex remained consistent

with last year’s survey. 19.2 percent of surveyed students said that they were in a relationship at the time of taking the survey. This result is slightly lower than that of last year, which was 23.6 percent. There appears to be a greater percentage of older students in relationships, as the percentages of surveyed Seniors, Uppers, Lowers and Juniors in relationships were 26.6 percent, 18.0 percent, 15.7 percent and 15.4 percent, respectively. Nearly half of surveyed

students have watched porn, and 81.1 percent of surveyed males have watched porn. This result is significantly different than the 2010 State of the Academy survey, in which more male students said that they did not watch porn than those who said they did. The places where students engage in sexual interaction show no significant change from last year. Surveyed Juniors reported to engage in sexual interaction most often outside, while Lowers most often

answered off campus and Uppers and Seniors most often answered rooms. Like last year, the survey’s results show that when using a room for sexual interaction, most students choose a male’s room. 73.4 percent of surveyed males who said they engaged in sexual interaction most often in a dorm room answered that it was their room, while only 29.5 percent of surveyed females with a similar response said the same.
