2018–2019 OPENING OF SCHOOL SCHEDULE Revised Wednesday, August 29, 2018

August 2018 Dear Members of the Phillips Academy Community, Welcome to the opening days of the 2018–2019 school year. In the pages that follow, you will see details of events that have been created to help us launch a great year. The end depends upon the beginning—finis origine pendet! A few notes: 1. Name tags are very helpful; staff, faculty, returning students, new students, and parents should all wear one. Let’s build a great community together this year, and let’s start by helping others learn our preferred name. 2. “Campus Closed/Dormitory Sign-In” signifies the time when day students should depart campus and boarding students should be signed into their dormitory. 3. Students will arrive beginning on Saturday, September 1, and will continue to arrive through Wednesday, September 5, as follows. • Saturday, September 1: Invited fall varsity candidates • Sunday, September 2: Student leaders • Monday, September 3: Student leaders • Tuesday, September 4: New students • Wednesday, September 5: All other returning students 4. For New International Student Orientation, World Partners should communicate with Ms. Torabi about their responsibilities to our new international students. 5. For early-returning varsity candidates, activities designed to introduce students to Andover take precedence over athletic practices on Tuesday, September 4; Wednesday, September 5; and Thursday, September 6. We have tried very hard to avoid schedule overlap, but there are some tight time frames. 6. New uppers, seniors, and postgraduates who are declared non‐swimmers are not required to take the swim test; however, they should contact the athletic office. 7. Students may pick up textbook orders from Follett at the appropriate station on the street level of George Washington Hall. Central Services, on the other hand, sends and receives packages not associated with Follett textbooks. 8. Students who want to learn more about E&R Laundry, our campus laundry service, can speak with E&R Laundry representatives in George Washington Hall at the following times: Thursday, August 30, 2–4 p.m.; Saturday, September 1, 9–11 a.m.; Sunday, September 2, 1–2 p.m.; Monday, September 3, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.; Tuesday, September 4, 8 a.m.–1 p.m.; or Wednesday, September 5, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. 9. Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Sunday, September 9, and continues until sundown on Tuesday, September 11. 10. Regular hours begin on Monday, September 10. Some times to note: • Meal Hours: Breakfast, 7–9:15 a.m.; Lunch, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.; Dinner, 5–7 p.m. • Campus Closed/Dormitory Sign-In: Initial sign-in, 7 p.m.; Final sign-in, 9:30 p.m. • Athletic Training Room: Sunday–Tuesday, 2–6 p.m.; Wednesday, 1–6 p.m.; Thursday–Saturday, 2–6 p.m. • Central Services: Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. We look forward to a great year!
