Steamfitter/Pipefitter (BTJ)

YOACAP operates a Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program under the Pre-Apprenticeship Pilot model, Project BUILD (PB). PB’s goal is to recruit and engage opportunity youth (18-24) with work experience and career-connected building trade training that aligns with partnering registered apprenticeship programs. YOACAP offers an eight-month Pre-Apprenticeship Program that engages a minimum of 15 participants in occupational skills training and work experience in the building trades. By the end of each cohort, participants will have completed 420+

Minimum Qualifications

17-24 hours of classroom learning (with hands-on component), 300+ hours of work experience, and obtaining nationally recognized certifications, common prerequisites for both entry-level jobs and Apprenticeships in the industry. Keys to youth’s success is the development of relationships with youth system providers, construction companies, and local unions that reflect participants’ interests in pipelines of varying options for additional training, education, and employment opportunities within the building trades. The primary outcome is that 65% of the participants will gain access to a local trades. soldering, brazing, or welding. Hourly Wages

The scope of the MESS encompasses service and maintenance of commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation and heating equipment and similar systems. Electric, gas & oil fired, hydronic and forced air equipment, associated combustion controls, and temperature/humidity controls are included. Building automation equipment service is also included.

Enrollment begins July 1 and continues through January or until the program is filled. Interested applicants can call (267) 780-7235. Staff will instruct you on when to come to the office to view a brief presentation and to take a brief math and reading assessment. Applicant must be willing to provide vital information like your birth certificate, state identification or driving license, social security card and other required documents.

Participants can earn $15.00 per hour on the weekends and can earn a $400.00 monthly incentive if they reach the required benchmarks.

Apprentices start at a percentage of the current Journeymen hourly wage rate and receive rate increases each year
