Die Konfiguration folgt dem Gesprächsbedarf. Sein modularer Charakter, so wie die konsequent leichte Handhabung verleihen Filo Table eine Anpassungsfähigkeit, mit der individuell auf unterschiedliche Raumsituationen reagiert werden kann. Als kleine Meetinglösung bietet er bis zu acht Personen Platz, in
Konferenzbereichen schafft er Raum für bis zu 24 Teilnehmer. Entweder als Rechteck oder als Oval.
Platten kombinationen. Das mittig positionierte »Geweih« verbindet harmonisch zwei Tischplatten, ohne den klaren Rhythmus der Fußgestelle zu unterbrechen.

Das Bild passt. Betritt man das Atelier des Gestalter-Trios EOOS in der Wiener Innenstadt, landet man auf der lebendigen Bühne ihres Designs: Gläserne Wände, Schreibtische, Reißbretter, Prototypen, Fotos, Skizzen, Modelle und vieles mehr, das man am liebsten in aller Ruhe studieren möchte. Dazwischen emsig werkende Mitarbeiter. 10 an der Zahl sind es, die hier in diesem Setzkasten der Premier-Design-League für und mit Martin Bergmann, Gernot Bohmann und Harald Gründl unter dem Himmel des Sonnenpferdes EOOS an Aufträgen für Topfirmen aus aller Welt arbeiten. Derzeit forscht und entwirft man für Bene, Alessi, Zumtobel Staff und Duravit, um nur einige zu nennen. In einem der hellen Arbeitsräume steht etwas auf einem Tisch, das in seiner Ästhetik an einen Flieger, wie
Howard Hughes ihn mochte, erinnert. Es könnte eine Skulptur sein, eine Hommage an den blank polierten Charme, den industrielle Fertigung hervorbringen konnte, damals in den Tagen eines Raymond Loewy. Wahrscheinlich wollen die Gestalter von EOOS das aber nicht hören, denn bei diesem Tischbein für ihren Konferenz- bzw. Besprechungstisch »Filo«, den EOOS für das Unternehmen Bene in gut drei Jahren entwickelten, geht es vor allem um eines: »Um Ruhe. Um Atmen. Um Unauffälligkeit«, wie Martin Bergmann sagt und weiter meint, »Bei einem Tisch, bei einer Tafel, egal, ob es um eine Hochzeit oder eine Besprechung geht, stehen immer die Menschen im Vordergrund, ihre Kommunikation. Der Tisch soll im Prinzip gar nicht ›sein‹. Wir verstehen den Tisch als Werkzeug«. Dieses Statement macht

schnell klar, wie EOOS über das Thema Besprechung und Kommunikation denken und ihr neuester Wurf wird prompt als logische Weiterentwicklung ihres Konferenzstuhl »Filo« verständlich, den das Büro vor Jahren für den US-Hersteller Keilhauer entwarf. Man könnte diesen als Verwandten 1. Grades des neuen Tisches bezeichnen. Bergmann macht klar, dass sich die Gestalter im Rahmen ihrer Arbeitsweise der »poetischen Analyse« im Zusammenhang mit einer Konferenzsituation vor allem auf den Begriff »Konzentration« konzentrieren.
Apropos Konzentration, Inspirationsquelle für den Sessel war ein Bogenschütze. »Spannung, Elastizität in Material und Ausdruck«, so könnte der Musenkuss genannt werden, der bei EOOS ankam. Die Frage, wie ein Büromöbel, das allen High-tech und IT-Anforderungen der Bürowelt entsprechen muss, derartig Ruhe ausstrahlen kann, ist erst auf den zweiten Blick zu beantworten. Auf den ersten sieht man im Tisch »Filo« eine Oberfläche, die beruhigt, alles andere als stört. Die Tischplatte ruht auf einer faszinierenden Beinarbeit, auf etwas, das von
Bergmann Geweih genannt wird. Der 4,8 Meter lange Tisch, der beliebig erweiterbar ist, liegt insgesamt auf nur drei Beinen. Ein jedes von ihnen wächst unter der Tischplatte zu vier Zweigen aus Aluminium empor, welche die Oberfläche tragen. »Hier liegt die Statik verborgen, außerdem funktioniert dieses Geweih auch als Connector zwischen den zusammengefügten Tischen«, erklärt Bergmann. Schaut man genauer auf die Unterseite, wird die nächste Stufe Intelligenz von »Filo« sichtbar. Es lassen sich an jedem Sitzplatz je nach Kundenwunsch konfigurierte Medien-Paneele einhängen. Wer

dann noch weiter schaut, und das tut man gerne, entdeckt eine Art Rüssel, Bergmann sagt lieber Tornado dazu. Dabei handelt es sich um ein Stricknetz, in dem Kabel zusammenlaufen und durch diesen Rüssel elegant in den Boden geleitet werden. Durch seine textile Oberfläche erlaubt dieses Feature auch Flexibilität in Sachen Elektroanschluss. »Das gibt einen Radius von gut einem halben Meter rund um den Bodenauslass«, meint der Designer. Am Ende des Besuches bei EOOS löst »Filo« das ein, was Bergmann zu dessen Beginn verspricht. Das Stück lässt
sich als faszinierendes und ruhiges Möbel erfahren, von dem anzunehmen ist, dass es auch im Atelier von EOOS zum Einsatz kommen wird, denn nichts schätzen die drei Designer in ihrer Arbeit so sehr wie das Zusammenkommen mit Auftraggebern an einem gemeinsamen Tisch. Das liegt daran, dass »Design niemals eine Einzelleistung ist«, wovon man bei EOOS überzeugt ist. »Wenn die Kommunikation mit dem Auftraggeber passt, kommt das Produkt automatisch«, ist sich Bergmann sicher und erzählt weiter, wie sehr er und seine Kollegen es
schätzen, starke Persönlichkeiten als Gegenüber zu haben, um zu einem Miteinander zu gelangen. »Schließlich geht es unserer Meinung nach bei allen Projekten um einen Austausch und gegenseitige Wertschätzung«, so der Gestalter über die Zusammenarbeit mit den verschiedenen Partnern aus sehr unterschiedlichen Branchen. Und wie beim Filo steht auch in diesem Zusammenhang die Konzentration im Vordergrund, denn die Jockeys des Sonnenpferdes »reiten« am liebsten mit wenigen Firmen, mit diesen aber sehr intensiv.

The atmosphere that presents itself upon entering EOOS’ downtown studio in Vienna is befitting of the design trio’s reputation. The space is a lively collection of their design work: glass walls, desks, drawing boards, prototypes, photographs, drafts, models and other props encourage one to further explore the setting amid a flurry of activity. A staff of 10 works at this showcase which has successfully carved out its place in the premier design league, under the watchful eyes of EOOS founders Martin Bergmann, Gernot Bohmann and Harald Gründl. The team completes orders for top labels worldwide. Current projects include designs for Bene, Alessi, Zumtobel Staff and Duravit, to name a few. An object on one of the desks inside space evokes comparisons to one of Howard Hughes’ planes.
It resembles a sculpture, paying homage to the smoothly polished charm of mass produced goods back in the days of Raymond Loewy. It is however doubtful that the creatives of EOOS seek to encourage such comparisons. The table legs which EOOS designed three years ago for Bene’s “Filo” meeting and conference table are supposed to “reflect balance, lightness, and simplicity,” explains Martin Bergmann, adding further, “whether a table is used for a wedding or a meeting, the focus is always on the people and their interaction. The table is supposed to blend with the background, serving merely as a tool.” This statement reflects EOOS’ approach to meetings and communication. Their latest design drew inspiration from the “Filo” meeting chair which had been developed for

the US label Keilhauer. One could the “Filo” chair is the ancestor of the new table. Bergmann states that the design approach of “poetic analysis” applied to every meeting room scenario focuses mainly on “concentration”. Speaking of concentration, the chair was modelled on an archer. EOOS sudden inspiration could be described as follows: “Tension paired with elastic materials and shapes.” The secret of the table which meets high-tech and IT needs of modern offices, while winning over with balance and tranquillity, reveals itself only at a closer look. The “Filo” table boasts a soothing table surface. The tabletop rests on beautifully crafted legs or antlers as Bergmann calls them. The 4.8-m-long table can be extended as required and is
supported by only three table legs. Each of the table legs forms four aluminium branches which carry the weight of the tabletop. “This design feature ensures stability and helps to connect multiple tables in a linear arrangement,” explains Bergmann. “Filo’s” underside reveals another sophisticated detail. Individually configured media panels can be easily hooked into every seat as required. Cables are routed to ground along a trunk-shaped cable duct —the Tornado as Bergman calls it. The textile surface of the cable duct allows for flexible power connections “within a radius of about half a meter around the floor opening,” explains the designer. At the end of the tour, “Filo” delivers what Bergmann had initially promised. The table shines with balance and calm and is expected to also take on
a supporting role at the EOOS studio. The design team values nothing more than meeting with their clients around the table. EOOS is convinced that design is never accomplished alone. “Successful communication with the client automatically leads to an accomplished product,” says Bergmann and adds that he and his team enjoy collaborating with strong personalities to jointly arrive at a solution. “All projects involve active exchange and mutual respect,” the designer comments on the collaboration with partners from various industries. And just like with Filo here concentration is paramount, for EOOS prefers “saddling up” with fewer companies, but in a more intensive dialogue.
