STAGE 1 During our second semester at university we were set the brief of developing our self-promotion. My original self-promotion I feel is good to promote my personal blogging however needs to have a more cooperate feel for sending to potential employees. What I have worked on is looking at trends within graphics/typography/ fashion to keep my self-promotion as relevant as possible with still allowing my personality to come through. My initial concept around my branding was rather crazy and out there. However after receiving feedback and analysing my work you will see how this has changed and evolved.

TREND 1- LESS IS MORE Less is more is a current trend within clothing and graphics. From Topshop Uniques 15/16 minimal make up look to Jack Wills stripping their iconic T-shirts back, there seems to be a trend with small amount of design within a garment. This has also be reflected into brand websites such as cheap Mondays.
TREND 2- COLOUR ME BLACK
I’ve had a go at incorporating this trend into a business card. I do like the textures on this and I do believe it is current however I want to create something that stands out a bit more. I also think I need to stop using the embrace your weirdness on the business card as this is ok for blogging I’m not sure it will sit well with employees
Black, white and grey is a very in colour palette this season. In fact Berlins trade show premium couldn’t get enough of it with many brands using this as their key palette at present. These colours complement each other as well as being very stylish and attractive to the eye.
Sticking with the colour theme I then had a go at embossing the eyebrows from my original design. However again I have decided that I need to move away from this.

TREND 3-HAND LETTERING This style seems to have taken off recently with typography becoming increasingly popular even know in main strain brands such as Starbucks. I visually like this style however I believe for my business card this would look more like I’m a graphic designer. I have found a few fonts that have inspired me from this type of style.
For the back part I took inspiration from Cheap Mondays website as i like the layout. However I didn’t think I looked as effective in such a small space.
SELF PROMOTION DEVELOPMENT I have taken into consideration these 3 trends and feedback from my original self-promotion to create something a lot more striped back and straightforward
I started by designing a new logo for myself. I have always wanted to incorporate my middle name into it so I started to play around on illustrator different ways I could do this. I also took inspiration from the trend less is more, trying to create something that catches the eye but isn’t too complex and busy
This was my first idea for the business card. I added a box around the logo and a drop shadow. I liked it however I didn’t think it was anything special it didn’t stand out to me. It would perhaps look better if it was embossed or slightly raised
SELF PROMOTION FINAL IDEAS
After analysing some of the trends I decided to combine my first wacky and crazy style with my development. I began to look at stripping things back and not wanting whole images on the card. Using paint tool in Photoshop I created this, which I am now happy with and feel it could be given to potential employees.
