STUDY OF EXISTING PROBLEMS ON PATISSION STR. This study was initiated by the urban examination of Athens, and more speciffically around the area of Patission Str. which was to be seen in view of a development of metropolitan importance According to ΟΡΣΑ 2021 (Organism for the Urban Planning of Athens), Patission str. will become an axis of public transportation, cycling and pedestrian use along with the placement of tram lines, in continuation with the projected re-development of Panepistimiou

Patission in relation with the s(oon-to-be) Panepistimiou re-development, the pedestrian network and the project of the archaeological site’s unification.

6 i. Areas and neighborhoods around Patission Str. ii.Main Axis iii. Metro, Tram and Railway network, along with the fourth projected metro line (yellow)

i. Projected Developments: organization of Patission as a one-way street t owards the city centre, tram lines placement, pedestrianization of Filis Str., one-way reorganization of Liosion Str. and Green network development. v. Green spaces and cultural centres vi. A mapping of residual spaces and enlistmen of 7 places, with potentials for redevelopment, wich lead to the further analysis concerning the Athens University of Economics and Business as well as the educational institutions in Athens.

University Campuses in Athens constiture large areas, innitially built around the residential area of the capital but later, encircled by the expanded city. We were challenged to design a university network destined from the beggining to function inside and in synergy with the dense city.

concept: A composition of volumes vertically developed in the manner of a business and corportation center

i)in relevance to the city context: -penetrability of(60%) the project area - building volumes in the same scale as the adjacent buildings -pottentiality of adaption to context ιι)in relevance to AUEB. -optical relationship with the old building -flexible space, offered for its use by students -business center thematic -an iconic place but not a voluminous object (60%)

ιιι)in relevance to Patission Str.’s redevelopment -creation of an centre of institutions along with the adjacent buildings of AUEB-Δ.Ε.Η.-Ο.Τ.Ε. -co-operation and facilitation of the pedestrian network -formation of important resting places -generation of a two sided public space from both sides of Patission iv)in relevance to architectural design education: exploration of complex spaces initiated from the composition of simple geometries.
