Ayon sa DOLE Advisory No. 03 Series of 2021, maaaring hikayatin ng mga employer ang kanilang empleyado na magpabakuna, ngunit hindi dapat madiskrimina ang mga wala pang bakuna o di kaya ay ayaw magpabakuna. Dagdag pa rito, nasasaad sa Republic Act 11525 na ang vaccine card ay hindi dapat gawing dagdag na requirement sa trabaho.

Gov’t hits new record of daily jabs

National Task Force Against Covid-19 (NTF Covid-19) Deputy Chief Implementer Vivencio Dizon reported that the government hits a new record of 702,013 daily jabs. According to National COVID-19 Vaccination Dashboard, as of August 3, the government surpassed the initial target of 500k, showing a continuous increase of daily inoculations. As of August 4, a total of 22,488,705 vaccines were administered and 10,282,152 individuals have been fully vaccinated.

More than 10M Filipinos vaccinated

More than 10 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated, Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque Jr announced during the Palace briefing, Thursday, August 5. He likewise expressed confidence that the Philippines would reach its target of population protection. During the same briefing, National Task Force Against COVID-19 Deputy Chief Implementer Vivencio “Vince” Dizon reported that the country reached its highest daily inoculation last Tuesday, August 3, with 702,013 jabs recorded. Dizon added that vaccination would be ramped up in the National Capital Region (NCR), Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro and Gingoog during the period of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar said the establishment and the rise in the number of Malasakit Centers nationwide reflect the Tapang at Malasakit campaign and the people-centered service and commitment of Senator Bong Go and the whole Duterte administration to the Filipinos. In the past week, the 131st and 132nd Malasakit Centers at the Democrito O. Plaza Memorial Hospital and Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center in CARAGA were officially inaugurated with Senator Christopher “Bong” Go in attendance. The Malasakit Center is a OneStop Shop where indigent patients can efficiently access financial medical assistance from agencies such as PhilHealth, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

ALAM NYO BA? Mayroon nang 133 Malasakit Centers sa buong bansa. Ang pagtatayo nito sa lahat ng DOH hospitals sa bansa ay ayon sa Republic Act No. 11463 na isinabatas ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte noong July 22, 2019. Layunin nitong makapagbigay ng medical financial assistance para sa mga indigent na Filipino.

Potential antibiotic, anticancer bacteria from Mt. Mayon By Melva Gayta - PIA/IDPD

Researchers from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) have identified a specific bacterial species from the soils of Mt. Mayon that has shown potential antibiotic and anti-colorectal cancer properties, said Department of Science and Technology.

The specific bacterial isolate, classified as Streptomyces sp. A1-08 is one of the 30 bacteria isolated from Mt. Mayon’s soil samples in Malilipot, Albay, “a less explored environment, a volcano,” said Kristel Mae P. Oliveros the

project leader and an assistant professor in UPLB Microbiology Division. Thirteen of 30 bacterial isolates have shown varying antibiotic activities in different test organisms that were known as pathogenic to humans or plants.

PH bags 4 medals in Tokyo Olympics The Philippines triumphantly rounded off its Olympic battle with a historic four medals, more than the country’s three-medal count in the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics. Led by Hidilyn Diaz who won the country’s first ever Olympic gold in weightlifting.

The other medals came from boxing with Carlo Paalam who came so close to winning the gold but settled for a silver in the flyweight division; Nesthy Petecio’s featherweight silver win; and Eumir Marcial who won the middleweight bronze medal.

War on illegal drugs reduce crime volume By Adora Rodriguez - PIA/IDPD

Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo M. Año noted the decreased crime volume of 292,589 from the second semester of 2016 to 193,103 in the first semester of 2021 due to the government’s relentless anti-illegal drug campaign. The DILG reported that 21,891 barangays were freed from illegal drugs, over 289,000 drug users and personalities, including over 12,000 high-value targets arrested; 757 drug dens and laboratories destroyed; P59.14 billion worth of shabu, cocaine, marijuana, and other illegal substances confiscated with about 1.3 million drug users all over the country surrendered. Regional drug abuse treatment and revalidation centers were also established and community based-drug rehabilitation programs were implemented.
