Palalawigin ng COMELEC ang oras ng pagpaparehistro at magsasagawa din ito ng operasyon tuwing Sabado at holiday. Hindi nakasalalay sa bakuna ang ayuda Walang katotohanan ang tsismis na bakunado lang ang makatatanggap ng ayuda. Aprubado ni Pangulong Duterte ang ayuda para sa mga pamilyang kapos sa pangangailangan dito sa National Capital Region (NCR) bakunado o hindi.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced in a press briefing Thursday, August 19, that a total of 29,127,240 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the country. According to National COVID-19 Vaccination Dashboard Data, as of August 18, a total of 16,250,043 individuals received their first dose, while a total of 12,877,197 individuals are fully vaccinated. NTF Deputy Chief Implementer and Testing Czar Secretary Vince Hizon added that he anticipated that the country would reach 30 million jabs on Friday, August 20.

The Philippines confirmed its first local case of Lambda variant that is more contagious and resistant to vaccines. The patient was a 35-year-old female who was asymptomatic and became well after undergoing the 10-day isolation period, the Department of Health said. With the rising cases of COVID-19 variants globally, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the Lambda variant as Variant of Interest (VOI) in June 2021. PIA Bulletin Online 2

Over 5.3 million learners from kindergarten to Grade 12 registered for the school year 2021-2022, the Education Department said Wednesday, August 18. Parents and guardians may enroll their children by accomplishing the Modified Learner Enrollment and Survey Form (MLESF) and submitting it to their respective schools through phone calls, text messaging, or online means to ensure the public’s safety. The regular enrolment period in public schools began on August 16 and will continue until the start of classes on September 13.

7 Balik-scientists to work on virology project By Adora Rodriguez - PIA/IDPD
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through the Balik Scientist Program (BSP), engaged seven foreign-trained scientists to establish the first virology institute in the Philippines. Dr. Teodoro M. Fajardo Jr., a virologist trained in the United Kingdom, will lead the team in sharing their “extensive experience and expertise to craft cutting-edge scientific research and development to fight COVID-19 and other viruses,” said Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato T. Dela Peña in a release. Balik Scientists will also be involved in different universities and regional research centers to advance the scientific community’s human resources, said DOST.

PH raises alert level 4 in Afghanistan By Marites B. Paneda - PIA/IDPD
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) raised the alert to level 4 in Afghanistan and ordered the mandatory repatriation of Filipinos due to the uncertain security situation in the country. The Department said 35 Filipinos were evacuated to Doha, Qatar, and joined the chartered flight to Manila on Tuesday, August 17. There are at least 132 Filipinos in Afghanistan. Technocratic leadership increased capacity of gov’t media to deliver information Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar’s technocratic leadership has given many opportunities for PCOO and its attached agencies to undertake reforms and improvement in terms of delivering information to the public. The various institutional reforms and new proactive policies strengthened its agencies’ support for government responses and programs. These were necessary improvements needed to upgrade the quality of service provided by government media. Sec. Martin Andanar stressed that the rollout of the Duterte Legacy communications campaign is a strategy to allow Filipinos to make a sound decision in choosing the next leader of the country. The said policy was discussed in both Congress and the Senate and it was approved.
