Maskless Phl possible once gov’t hits 90M fully vaccinated Filipinos

The government is considering lifting the mandatory wearing of masks in open spaces by the fourth quarter of the year, once the vaccination rate reaches the 90 million target, a government medical adviser said. In the Laging Handa briefing, National Task Force against Covid-19 medical adviser Dr. Ted Herbosa backed the statement of vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez, who said that the mandatory use of masks would “most likely” be scrapped by the last quarter of the year. “Perhaps, in an open-air we 3 PIA Bulletin Online

would no longer require the public if the big chunk of the population is fully vaccinated,” Dr. Herbosa said. The government is eyeing to fully inoculate 90 million Filipinos by the end of June, a month before the end of President Rodrigo Duterte’s term. However, Herbosa noted that the government still has to consider other factors such as potential emergence of new Covid-19 variants and waning effects of vaccines to fully vaccinated individuals. This, as the health department recently said that most of the Covid-19 protocols would be lifted, once the country shifts to Alert Level 1.

End vax hesitancy, Rody appeals

MJ Blancaflor

The Daily Tribune

President Rodrigo Duterte renewed his call to the public to get vaccinated against Covid-19, saying it would make him happy to see that most Filipinos have been vaccinated when he bows out of office in June. “If there is something that makes me happy when I leave this office, I will be happy if I find out that the majority are vaccinated,” the President said. Duterte said no one is safe from severe Covid-19 until every Filipino is fully vaccinated. “We have not yet hit herd immunity. Covid is here and it can afflict

everybody. No one is still safe,” he said. “I am pleading to you, on behalf of the government.” Vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said he was set to visit the provinces with low vaccination turnout, including Zamboanga and Basilan, to personally encourage residents to get inoculated. He pointed out that the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao had the lowest vaccination rate across all regions as of Tuesday. Duterte earlier said Muslim communities in Mindanao have been resisting vaccination against Covid-19. PIA Bulletin Online 4

Fake news ‘yan! “Any substance that will effectively and safely protect people is considered halal, especially if it is the only viable option at present.”
