The Department of Agriculture (DA) is set to implement programs on food security to cushion the country from the impact of the global economic challenges due to the ongoing crisis between Ukraine and Russia. Agriculture Secretary William Dar presented contingency plans and programs which can help the country secure food supply if the Russia-Ukraine conflict escalates. The DA chief lauded the immediate and resolute approval by President Rodrigo Duterte of various measures proposed by the department.

Provision of concessional loans by the Land Bank of the Philippines (LandBank) and Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) to provincial LGUs for palay procurement and rice buffer stocking Transfer of oversight of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) back to the DA
“The measures approved by the President will further boost higher food production in the country, and provide our farmers, fishers and rural folk much-needed incomes amidst the Covid-19 pandemic,” Sec. Dar said. “If we fail to act now, the net result is high food prices and inflation, resulting in food insecurity, hunger and malnutrition,” Sec. Dar added.

No standing in jeeps, buses Larry Pawal
The Daily Tribune
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday, March 1, reiterated that public jeepneys and buses could not accept passengers more than their allowed capacity. While Metro Manila was placed under the most relaxed Alert Level 1 protocols, the ease still does not allow standing passengers in transport services. Only full seating capacity is allowed, the MMDA said. The agency’s officer-in-charge and general manager Romando Artes stated PITPIT-ISIP

that it was in agreement with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in the implementation of the rule. “Standing passengers would not be allowed because the IATF (InterAgency Task Force) guidelines only allowed full seating capacity, which means the capacity of the vehicles where the passengers will sit. Only that will be allowed except for MRT… in standing passengers, because MRT and LRT were designed to have a few passengers sitting and more passengers standing. Except for these, in buses and jeepneys, only full seating capacity is allowed,” he said during a radio interview.
