P185M allocated for classroom construction, rehabilitation - DepEd Siquijor SIQUIJOR, May 9 (PIA) -- The Department of Education (DepEd) in Siquijor disclosed that a total of P185 million worth of school building projects are currently being implemented in the province. At the monthly gathering of the Siquijor Association of Information Disseminators (SAID), Education Program Specialist and Information Officer Eden Bation reported that at least 177 classrooms province-wide were either constructed and rehabilitated or repaired under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). Out of the 177 classrooms, 77 are news constructions that costs P172 million and 40 under rehabilitation and repair costing some P13.5 million, Bation said. The new classrooms will be used as workshop centers while others serve as regular classrooms, she also said. Recipients of the regular classrooms are elementary schools of Libo, Bogo, Licoan, Simacolong, Catulayan, Luzong, Ponong and San Antonio. Other recipients are central elementary schools of Lazi, San Juan, and Siquijor, and the Cabulihan Integrated School in Larena, Siquijor. Workshop classrooms are for national high schools of Enrique Villanueva, Basac, Lazi, Candaping, Tambisan, Banban, and Cang-alwang. BFAR turns over P2.5-fish landing facilities
SIQUIJOR, May 5 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) turned over some P2.5 million worth of community fish landing center (CFLC) to the stakeholders of the Municipality of Maria. The CFLC is a two-storey post-harvest facility complete with freezers and dryers. BFAR Regional Director Allan L. Poquita said that the establishment of fisheries post-harvest infrastructure and facilities, particularly CFLCs is part of the ongoing collaboration among BFAR, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) and the local government units (LGUs) and other partner government agencies in line with the fisheries poverty reduction framework featured on the BFAR’s Targeted Actions to Reduce Poverty and Generate Economic Transformation (TARGET) Program. It aims to provide better post-harvest handling and processing system and faster access to markets to reduce post harvest losses and increase income, said Poquita.
