WHAT’S UP KEY CLUB

It’s a little crazy isn’t it. A year has already passed and it’s my time to pass my funny little spirit stick to my kid. Words can’t describe how grateful I am to have such an amazing board and an even more amazing club to lead. Key Club has given me so many beautiful memories and I hope I’ve hit the goals I planned at the beginning of my term. To Jackie, I look forward to everything you have planned this next year and don’t ever be afraid to reach out to me if you ever need help. I am so so proud of you and it gives me so much comfort that you’re my new successor. To my favorite little members, I have one piece of advice so you can make the most of your key club journey: take every opportunity you get! High school is only four years so really do take advantage of everything you get and Key Club will always be here to support you! Jackie, I wish you . luck on all your future endeavors and to my astounding club, it . was an honor serving as your president.

. Signing off for the final time, . Sokunthea

Creating Catapults and Eating

Coffee-Ground-Laced Chips with Rice!

Ruskin Elementary STEM Night with Stanley Lew

Once again, like all events that I sign up for, I was running late as usual! With a bagel in my left hand and my phone in my right, I sprinted to Ruskin Elementary's Multipurpose room with my sister before finally arriving to see the bustling atmosphere of volunteers setting up. It was there that I met up and saw a couple of my friends after signing up such as Kasey and Mitchell. Because of my past experience volunteering for this event in 2019, I decided to volunteer at the same stand as I did back then: the catapult section. Here, we were tasked to help and teach elementary schoolers how to create catapults which were then used to launch plastic spiky balls into plastic plates. It was funny how as I worked with Henry and Minh, we were constantly begging each other for the one sharpie at our table to check off the elementary schooler's section cards. After the event began nearing its end, we were alerted that.. there was free food in the staff lounge! Of course, this became our group's only motivation after all the social engagement we were forced to endure. Up at the staff lounge, there were normal snacks such as chips, chocolate cake/brownies, etc. But there were also.. coffee grounds.. for the teachers I would assume. It was here that Mitchell decided to combine the assortment of food in the staff room to create an absolute monstrosity of a 'mini-appetizer': coffee-ground laced child with rice. Thus, I wasn't surprised after seeing his text after he arrived home that he had a stomachache.. This event definitely brought back my memories from volunteering back during my freshman year and I definitely don't regret volunteering over International Faire.

Back for More

February RAFT San Jose with Katelyn Nguyen

This month, I hosted another event with RAFT. Many members were excited to come back in and volunteer at RAFT. We were able to build kits for RAFT to sell to teachers to purchase for their students. Not only does RAFT sell affordable kits, but they also sell other things that are donated by companies such as pens, water bottles, lab supplies, and much more. The members and I were in charge of doing quality control in which we took apart the kits that were already assembled and counted to make sure that they all had the amount that they should have to ensure no problems for the consumer. Other members were able to prepare the items for the kits as well such as counting straws, folding the instructions sheets, and much more. During our break, RAFT kindly offered snacks such as candy and fruit snacks, and water as well. Members got the opportunity to explore RAFT and purchase anything that intrigued them. It was overall a great event again with RAFT!

MEDIA DIRECTOR NOTES

HAPPY MARCH EVERYONE!

I hope everyone has had a lovely February and is looking forward to an amazing March too. As the term closes, we finish our last newsletter… of this term.. Well that’s alright because I’ve had a ton of fun this term, even if I only got to make these for half the term. I hope to see a lot of You guys running for key officers this year!! And that reminds me that some of these pages were made by SHADOWEES!! These people have learnt all the things about being a MD, (and are very capable if i do say so myself). I’m so proud of all of you guys, and I better see you run for MD

NOOOO the term’s over D: Being a media director for this past year has been SOO MUCH FUN!! I think I’ve improved so much since I started last year, but there’s still a lot of room for improvement. I hope you guys enjoyed my involvement in these newsletters as much as I did. Honestly don’t know how I would have been able to get through this term without the help of my co-media directors, so huge thanks to Chao-chi and Annie. Also huge thanks to the media director shadowees who took an interest in the position and created designs that may or may not be featured in this newsletter ;). Lastly, thank YOU- yes you :D- for reading these newsletters throughout the year, we really appreciate it. :D

TIME DOES FLY REALLY FAST

Can you believe it? The 2022-2023 Key Club term is almost over! I had so much joy creating these fun newsletters for you to read. I wanna thank Annie and Andrew for being the best media directors I could ever ask for. This month is SAT, next month being state testing, and May being AP testing.. Yikes! But I hope all the juniors do well on the tests! :D Hopefully you guys all enjoyed reading this issue as much as I did making them. With my term over, it is time to pass down the media director torch to whoever gets elected for next year! Even though I won’t be MD next year, always feel free to reach out and ask me about anything! Adios-
