The Mayflower Ship, a long-time symbol of Piedmont, represents our institution’s historical ties to Congregational Churches. A shining Mayflower weathervane that sits atop our chapel spire is a testament to that heritage.

E M CO ARD! O B A TEACHING PASSION In the words of one alum, “The faculty at Piedmont challenged the way that I approach the world and my worldview.” We love hearing that, because being a good teacher is the number-one measure of success for our faculty. It’s in our DNA. Even the president of the College and all the academic deans teach classes. How many schools— of any size—can say that?

12 THE AVERAGE SIZE OF OUR CLASSES

AN EXTRAVAGANT WELCOME

Our affiliation with the United Church of Christ and the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches means an inclusive spirit and a supportive environment for all.

QUIET PLEASE Study time? Research time? Then it’s Arrendale Library time: Over 90,000 volumes, public access computers, group-study rooms, conference rooms, WEPA cloud-based printing kiosks; access to more than 56,400 online journals and 420,000 eBooks.

MULTIPLE CHOICES You can study in one or more major areas and add a minor “to explore something different.” Piedmont encourages study across multiple disciplines, and you can even select related courses in different schools to create your own interdisciplinary degree.

GETTING DIRECTIONS The Compass Program is all about discovery

11:1 STUDENT TO FACULTY RATIO

beyond the classroom through internships, research, leadership opportunities, and many other options. These experiences are sure to grab the attention of employers and graduate programs.

K N BU TYLE S N I AS IMAGINED There’s a simple reason that 72 percent of our students live on campus. This is their second home. And understandably so. It’s a lot like those movies about the classic college experience – the beautiful, historic campus with quad activities from flag football to picnics to, yes, outdoor classes. No question, being a campus resident is the fun, friend-making, connected thing to do.

PERFECT SPOT We offer a wide range of housing options. There are traditional residence halls, suite buildings, and a village for apartment-style living. But no matter your exact address, you’ll find yourself part of a lively, caring community where you’ll feel totally accepted and right at home with Wi-Fi Internet connection, online movie and TV streaming services, cable in common areas, and free laundry facilities (make Mom proud).

BE A LEADER If you like to take charge, maybe you’d be interested in becoming a Resident Assistant, the go-to person who lives on the halls with students. Yes, part of the job is being a rules enforcer, but the more important aspect is hosting educational and communitybuilding programs.

SERIOUS NOTE Ours is an environment that promotes safety and gives you the delightful opportunity to learn about other cultures and lifestyles. Self-respect and respect for others, tolerance of and celebration of diversity, ethical behavior, personal growth, and accountability are basic expectations.

WOW FACTOR We call it the Commons, but it is surprisingly uncommon for a school our size to have a student center this remarkable. Like many colleges, we like to say we are student-centered. It takes only one walk through the Commons to confirm that fact. This beautifully and thoughtfully designed building is dedicated to student satisfaction— including dining facilities, fitness center, intramural sports gymnasium, climbing wall, conference area, offices for student services and organizations, and the Barnes & Noble Bookstore. That’s a lot under one roof—and all for you.

GO TIME The activities calendar at Piedmont is packed. From the Literary Society and Outdoor Club to the Chemistry Club and Radio Club—there are groups that fit any interest. For the sports minded: intramurals like softball, volleyball, basketball, flag football, and tennis. For entertainment seekers: visiting performers, talent shows, and movie nights.

ARTISTIC LICENSE Show your artsy side at Piedmont, and you’ll be applauded for it. The arts—from the visual to the performing—add a large dash of spice to campus life. You can participate in plays and musicals, perform in a music ensemble, and soak up the talent as part of the audience.

GREEK LIFE Take your Piedmont experience to the next level. Want to achieve academic excellence, engage with local and global communities, cultivate leadership, and foster lifelong relationships? Piedmont College Greek Life offers fraternity and sorority experiences that connect the values of these national organizations to those of Piedmont.

FOODIES, RELAX! We know. You’ve likely heard “not so good” stories about college food. We invite you to join us for a meal in our big and bright dining hall in the Commons to discover you can’t always believe what you hear. Our food is great! And so many choices. A Hot Bar where you can put together a full meat and/ or vegetable meal. Or wait, maybe go with something from the Pizzeria, Deli, Grill, abundant Salad Bar, or Dessert Station. Yum!

QUICK NOW Busy, busy, busy is a common condition for most college students. But that doesn’t mean foregoing some of life’s best treats – like delicious coffee and body-fueling snacks. Our Starbucks/On-the-Go Café, also located in the Student Commons, is a perfect place for two speeds. When you have a few minutes to relax. And when you are in a rush and just want to grab and run.

GOOD FEELING Health-conscious eaters (and who isn’t these days?) find a good partner in our food options. Our menus clearly spell out what’s balanced, vegan, and vegetarian. Calorie counts are front and center. We even have a G8 Allergen Free Station.

WINNING ATTITUDE

Sports. Fitness. Competitive spirit. Students cheering. Trophies held high. All of those things have a big role in college life. At least they should— and they do at Piedmont College. We have put a lot of time, energy, and resources into building and maintaining a powerful athletic program. Which is why we attract some of the best athletes around. And why we make our students green with pride, season after season.

Our hometown, Demorest, is a gateway to just about every mountain-area pursuit you can imagine. WIN, WIN WORK Piedmont College supports a robust Student Employment Program. Walk into almost any office on campus or into the dining hall or bookstore or wherever, and you’ll find students doing a great job. The hours they put in – usually between 10 and 20 per week – earns them money and all-important work experience. It’s truly a win, win.

COST REALITIES Some people don’t like to talk about the cost of college. We, on the other hand, are more than happy to do so. First, because it must be discussed. Second, because it allows us to set aside the myth that Piedmont College isn’t affordable. Beyond traditional financial aid programs, we offer more than $12 million in scholarships and grants to our students. Your education means that much to us.

$12,500,000+ IN SCHOLARSHIPS & GRANTS The amount awarded by the College itself each year (above and beyond other financial aid options).
