A message from your

Director

As the Recreation Department prepares for another fun filled summer, we are once again offering a wide array of summer programs —aquatics, day camps, sports, arts, science and more—with the goal of providing something fun for everyone. We also pride ourselves in our teen employment programs that provide training and opportunities for volunteer and paid recreation jobs. I am particularly excited to highlight CAMP EVERYTHING which will be offered for 4 weeks this summer and is sure to be a hit with all those entering 1st through 6th grades. Camp Everything will transform Hampton Park in to an all-day kid paradise where children can dive in to many different activities in a world free from technology, judgment, and expectation. In other news, the Recreation Center Tennis Courts will undergo significant renovations beginning in May and will emerge with a new name: THE COREY REICH TENNIS CENTER. Corey Reich graduated from Piedmont High School in 2004, where he was a member of the Men’s Varsity Tennis Team. While attending Middlebury College in 2007, Corey was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 21. After his diagnosis, he returned to Middlebury and graduated with honors in May of 2008. Corey moved home to Piedmont after his graduation and has been the Assistant Coach for the Piedmont High School Men’s and Women’s Varsity Tennis Teams ever since. Corey is a powerful and inspirational coaching presence on the Rec Tennis Courts every day throughout the girls’ fall and the boys’ spring season. For more about this exciting project, visit PRFO.org/corey. We are here to enhance the day to day experience of our community. Please continue to tell us how we can better serve your needs.

Since 1982, Kids' Carpentry has taught thousands of boys and girls the joys of working with real tools and wood. The safe use of hand tools is emphasized while kids work together on trucks, bird feeders, doll furniture, airplanes and other items. In addition to the fun, kids gain experience in measuring and applied mathematics. By visualizing, planning, and building projects, children develop abstract reasoning capabilities and fine motor skills. Children can select from a wide range of project choices supplied by the instructor but are encouraged to design and build based on their own needs and imaginations. Carpentry classes are taught with one teacher for every 9 students, ensuring careful attention and respect for each child. Class size is limited.Visit kidscarpentry.net for more info!
