Bugatti launches new Lifestyle Collection

Milan Fashion Week sees an exciting event with Bugatti launching its new Lifestyle Collection at the renowned Brera Academy of Fine Arts. Bugatti plans to set up a retail network in the world’s major capitals of fashion and luxury, establishing up to 35 exclusive mono brand boutiques over aperiod of five years. Discovery Sicily with SolGolfVacations! by Susan Nuttall Turner Siracuse As we say good bye to summer and get ready to face autumn and winter, how many of you are planning or thinking of a golf break or vacation to get you through the long cold winter months and the dark at 4,30pm evenings!!! Top of your list is probably one of the eternally popular Spanish golf resorts or maybe one of the Portugese resorts offering pleasant winter escapes. I bet you have never considered SICILY Yes SICILY! I recently visited the island to visit 3 of the golf resorts with my Sicilian business partner and already knowing and appreciating Italy I am not sure what I was expecting, I knew what he had told me and what I had read but even that didn’t do justice to what I discovered ! First of all a little geography for those of you wondering The historic island of Sicily lies off the southern end of Italy,( just off the toe!) of which it forms an autonomous region. Covering a total of almost 26,000km², Sicily is the biggest island in the Mediterranean Sea. At the closest point, Sicily and Italy are barely more than three kilometers apart. Sicily is almost 290kms long, however, putting the other end of the island less than 150kms from Tunisia, in Africa. I visited three resorts on the island and took some time to enjoy the sights sounds and gastronomy of the island. I think we all know or have heard of Mount Etna, europes only active volcano that every now and again puts on a show all of its own. That in its self is a tourist attraction but some of the hill side villages and towns look as if they are straight out of the history book or film set. I can particularly recommend visits to:Taormina. This delightful mountaintop town is overlooking the Ionian coast is Sicily’s most famous resort, full of restaurants and shops, with beaches nearby. Its historical side is ubiquitous. The Greek amphitheatre, with its famous panoramic view Mount Etna and the coast, is used for

concerts and plays, and medieval walls enclose the old town’s stone streets which is perfect for an evening stroll to discover the many shops, restaurants and bars. There are several castles, including those in the Castelmola overlooking Taormina. Siracusa: Archimedes, Plato and Saint Paul loved Syracuse, and with good reason. It was one of the most important cities of the ancient Greek world, and the most important in Greek and Roman Sicily. It was also one of the most beautiful. The archeological park is extensive, while the old city, Ortygia, with its charming, narrow streets (closed to most traffic), boasts some fascinating treasures. After visiting Siracusa consider visiting the quaint and, for me, quite beautiful Noto , with palaces and churches in the Sicilian Baroque style are something truly representative of 18th-century Sicilian architecture and art. I could continue especially with regards to Messina, Catania oh and don’t get me started about the food this is Italian food at its best. However I am pleased to report that the golf resorts on offer are also excellent, the golf courses will surprise and delight and lets not forget the wonderful climate through out autumn winter and spring. We are talking about the same temperatures as Southern Spain (Alicante and Murcia) temperatures that make a golf break very very appealing!

Taormina

My first visit was to “I Monasteri Golf Resort” this a 4**** Luxury Hotel situated close to Siracuse this in the past was an old benedictine monastery and in the 18thcentury it became the house of prominent Italian noble families like the Catalano and the Melilli Barons. The Villa is majestic and situated amongst some beautiful countryside over looking the golf course. The hotel offers beautiful elegant rooms all have a large and well furnished terrace and a view onto the golf course,all of the best modern comforts you would expect from a resort of this calibre can be found. The golf course is very characteristic and has all the connotations of the most classic Sicilian landscape: oranges, mandarins, lemons, almonds, prickly pears and stone walls. The design of the golf course is aimed to preserve the beautiful nature in which it is designed and to enhance its characteristics. The holes do not appear as artificial interruptions of the citrus field, but they seem to be a natural clearing that separates one area of oranges and lemons from the other; the dry stone walls follow the layout of some of the holes, the rocks and the stones through the fairways and holes flow among large prickly pears, almost without stop their weaving. While playing you can see the trees of oranges, mandarins and lemons, because lapping the holes. For these reasons, the golf course has a very Sicilian feel. The golf cours is a “par 71 course” and is designed with the intention of making the players feel immersed in nature and at the same time to ensure that the game is also funny and technical, thanks to the five tees for each hole, thanks to the positioning of the obstacles and thanks to the shape and slope of the greens.

My second visit was to Il Picciolo Etna Golf Resort & Spa situated in Castiglione di Sicilia in the shadow of Mount Etna this majestic hotel over looks the magnificent golf course. It is first golf course that was built in Sicily in 1989. Designed by the prestigeous architect Luigi Rota Caremoli the course 18 holes and Par 72 is 5870mt and nestles amongst the oak trees vineyards and hazlenut trees with site of Mount Etna in the back drop. A 16 bay driving range, 5 of which are covered, putting green and pitching green are also available. This elegant 4 * hotel offers its guests a unique atmosphere and the rooms are equipped with every comfort many with views of Etna and all with views of the golf course. This 98 room hotel has restaurant, wine bar, spa, swimming pool, and ample meeting space and congress rooms.

Finally I visited Verdura Golf & Spa Resort, located on the south coast of Sicily near the seaside town of Sciacca. KLM introduces a totally new business class cabin by Carlo Dedoni KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has recently introduced its new World Business Class (WBC) cabin interior, featuring the new full-flat seat. In the next months the company will refurbish all its long range aircrafts with the new Business Class. With this new cabin interior the company aims to accentuate the at-home feeling for Business Class customers and that calls for a new cabin interior. KLM has teamed up with Dutch top designer Hella Jongerius to introduce a brand-new atmosphere, furnishings and style in World Business Class. The guiding principle is the customer’s comfort and privacy as befits KLM. In addition to the new full-flat seats, the interior features new carpeting, panel decorations, curtains, lighting, blankets, cushions and upholstery. First up for redecoration are KLM’s fleet of 22 Boeing 747-400s. In so doing, KLM will be changing all of WBC in the height of Dutch design, thereby combining its Dutch roots with international allure. “I am convinced that this contemporary design will be greatly appreciated by our most valued customers and live up to their needs and wishes,” says KLM President & CEO Peter Hartman. “Even in times of financial difficulty, KLM continues to invest in customer comfort. I am proud of this superb and unique result: an entire World Business Class cabin created by a leading Dutch designer. In this way, we aim to give our passengers that warm athome feeling.” The new full-flat seat offers customer optimum comfort. It can be reclined horizontally so the passenger can lie fully flat. The seat position in the cabin and the partition between television screens ensure greater privacy for passengers. There are also storage compartments in the seats beside the passengers and under the television screens. The number of seats in World Business Class will be reduced from 42 to 35 aboard the Boeing 747-400. KLM has chosen the Diamond Seat manufactured by B/E Aerospace. The guiding principle of new design is to ensure that passengers feel at home on board. That involves a transition from a business-like look to a greater sense of being at home. This has been achieved by using a characteristically warm colour palette, more sustainable materials, and by enhancing personal comfort. The design is timeless, recognisable and unified by the decorative dot patterns that feature on every item. Naturally, the new interior features the fresh and recognisable KLM blue. To ensure the sense of comfort on board, Hella Jongerius has blended warmer and darker colours into the existing colour range making the KLM blue sparkle even more. The five new colours are aubergine, dark brown, midnight blue, cobalt and dark grey. Sustainability is another point of focus for KLM in all new developments. The new design therefore had to be innovative as well as sustainable. In meeting this requirement, Hella Jongerius sought new solutions within the existing options available to the airline industry. The carpeting, for instance, was manufactured partly of discarded KLM ladies’ uniforms. KLM recycles all of its discarded carpets in collaboration with carpet manufacturer Desso based on the cradle-to-cradle principle. This is in line with the CSR policy KLM has pursued for years. “It is truly remarkable that KLM is open to this kind of approach for its interior,” says Hella Jongerius. “Aircraft interiors have to meet an unbelievable range of technical requirements. We achieved this by simplifying the new seat, changing its colour and upholstering it with high-quality textile.” KLM’s Boeing 747-400 fleet, consisting of 22 aircraft, will be redecorated first. The first refurbished aircraft took the skyes in July and now it is expected that the entire 747-fleet will be redecorated by April 2014. Work on KLM’s 15 Boeing 777-200s is planned for the summer of 2014.

Rigoletto Pen Italians’ love for opera is unmatched by their other musical passions. It is the genre closest to their hearts because it embodies so many Italian qualities, not least a desire to express the deepest, most heartfelt emotions. Flamboyant, tempestuous, joyous: opera is Italy’s soul transformed into sound. To celebrate this most elegant and noble of art forms, born in Italy at the end of the 16th Century, Montegrappa pays tribute much-loved operas through the “Emozioni in Musica” collection of writing instruments. Previously-released pens in the series have honoured La Traviata and Il Barbiere di Siviglia. The third to be celebrated by Montegrappa is Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto, an opera in three acts. The Rigoletto Pen With an eye to the spirit of the eponymous player that it commemorates, the design of the Rigoletto pen immediately recalls the attire of the traditional court jester, a harlequin pattern of red, white and black diamond shapes that can be attributed to no other character. The body and the all-red cap are made of resin, the body itself requiring the use of the diffusion bonding technique to create its mosaic effect. All trims are made of solid silver or solid gold, according to the model. A handmade black and red glass “murrina” on top of the red cap was inspired by the puffy sleeves and pantaloons that comprise a harlequin’s garb, while the pocket clip is styled in the manner of the jester’s footwear. Engraved into the ring that secures the pocket clip is a pattern that recalls the “skirt” favoured by jesters, with triangular extensions ending in little bells. For the ring encircling the body, where the threads appear, Montegrappa’s artisans have etched a pattern to denote the type of belt worn by a jester. Montegrappa’s logo is engraved around the wide ring at the bottom of the cap. The Limited Edition of Montegrappa “Emozioni in Musica” Rigoletto consisting of sterling silver and solid 18k yellow gold versions. In both models, the fountain pen nibs are fashioned from solid 18k gold. The Limited Edition is comprised of only 900 fountain pens and 900 rollerballs with sterling silver trim, and 30 fountain pens and 21 roller balls with solid 18K gold trim, for a total of 1851 pens. Solely “Cosmograph” at the outset, over the years “Oyster”, “Perpetual”, “Cosmograph”, “Daytona” and “Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified” were added, chronicling a legend in watchmaking.

1963

In 1963, Rolex launched a new-generation chronograph, the Cosmograph, dedicated to racing drivers. The singular name invented by Rolex immediately marked it out as a very different new model with an equally innovative style. The chronograph counters stood out clearly on the dial thanks to their strongly contrasting colour: black on a light coloured dial or light coloured on a black dial. The tachymetric scale – a graduation allowing the measurement of average speeds over a given distance using the chronograph seconds hand – was moved from the dial to the circumference of the bezel, opening up and simplifying the dial. Dictated by functional considerations, as is usually the case at Rolex, these features made the chronograph functions far more legible – one of the challenges of the time. They also gave the watch a technical and sporty look making it instantly recognizable. The Cosmograph clearly deserved its place among the Professional watches, a category created by Rolex 10 years previously, in 1953, with models such as the explorer dedicated to explorers and mountaineers, or the Submariner specially designed for deep-sea diving.

1965 The Cosmograph evolved in 1965 with the launch of a version that introduced screw- down chronograph pushers instead of the pump pushers found on the original model. The screw-down pushers brought the finishing touch to the Oyster concept, and prevented the pushers from being manipulated accidentally. In testimony to its reinforced waterproofness, the name “Oyster” was inscribed on all the dials in addition to “Cosmograph”. another new feature came in the form of a black Plexiglas insert for the tachymetric bezel. The white graduation increased legibility yet again.

1988 With the arrival of quartz movements in the 1960s–1970s, Rolex nevertheless remained faithful to the mechanical watch and to the Cosmograph Daytona, preparing its future evolution. In 1988, the Daytona became self-winding. The brand opted for a quality, commercially available chronograph movement, which it then significantly modified to meet its own requirements, replacing more than 50 per cent of the components with parts specifically designed for Rolex Daytona movements. The resulting new calibre 4030 included, among other features, a Rolex “heart” – an oscillator with a variable inertia balance wheel, Microstella regulating nuts and a hairspring with a Breguet overcoil – as well as a self-winding module with a Perpetual rotor invented by the brand in 1931. The movement was systematically submitted for official certification to receive the designation of chronometer, attesting to its superior precision. all versions of the new model featured the phrase “Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified” on their dial as well as “Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona”

2000 As a backdrop to the launch of an entirely new interpretation of the Cosmograph Daytona, it is difficult to imagine a more symbolic event than that of entering a new millennium. Introduced by Rolex in the year 2000, this new model – like the first Cosmograph in its time – embodied the chronograph of the future. It is also equipped with a spectacular monobloc Cerachrom bezel, an exclusive Rolex innovation with exceptional resistance properties and incomparable aesthetics.

Cigars AJ Fernandez – San Lotano Oval 5 x 52 This release from AJ Fernandez is a uniquely shaped cigar that is extremely boxed pressed, but with round edges, making it into an oval. The shape lends itself to a truly effortless draw providing volumes of billowing smoke. Blended using a Habano 2000 wrapper that’s aged for at least 4 years, a Nicaraguan binder, and proprietary fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras, this is a very smooth medium-bodied cigar that’s full of flavor. A hint of spice is present, along with black tea and cedar.

Gurkha – Cellar Reserve 5 x 58 This release from Gurkha is blended using an oily Criollo 1998 wrapper, aged Dominican Olor binder, and 15-year old Dominican filler. This vintage made cigar comes in figurado and classic shapes and is incredibly smooth. The nice draw produces plenty of smoke, and combines both sweet and savory notes on the palate. The taste of toasted oak merges with a hint of molasses, into a medium to full bodied meaty smoke.

Ashton – VSG Series Torpedo 6 ½ x 55

La Palina – Goldie Laguito No. 2 6 x 38 This unique cigar is limited in production to 1,000 boxes of 10. A long, thin cigar, the construction is superb with a great draw and even burn. Notes of wood and nuts with a hint of cinnamon are present on the palate. Made with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Ecuadorian binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, this medium bodied cigar is worth a try if you can find one.

Pleasure Orsos Islands is a luxury floating island that has the ability to be moved and re-anchored. Orsos Islands is the brainchild of Gabor Orsos and his Austrian-based company has begun manufacture of the prototype in Germany and Hungary and aim to show it to the public by the end of 2013. The images you see below are obviously renderings, but the concept is intriguing as it stands as an alternative to a villa or hotel. With accommodation for up to 12 guests, the possibilities for the tourist industry to employ some of these places anchored close to small islands or having several out on the water from mainland could be interesting. The all-new Ghibli marks a turning point in Maserati’s history. Unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show and arriving just months after the new Quattroporte, the Ghibli will give Maserati two concurrent four-door sedan models for the first time in its history. The Ghibli is smaller, shorter, lighter, more dynamic, less expensive and more economical than the flagship Quattroporte and provides a cornerstone in Maserati’s plans to build 50,000 cars a year by 2015. Its petrol range provides high performance from both of the power outputs from the twin turbo-charged, 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine and it also offers customers the choice of rear- or all-wheel drive in an E-segment luxury sports sedan. The Ghibli has a more-focused, sportier philosophy than the larger Quattroporte and its most powerful model, the Ghibli S, has 301 kW (410 hp) of power, races to 100km/h in 5.0 seconds and stretches out to a top speed of 284km/h. The Ghibli is also the first Maserati in history to be powered by a diesel engine, with a turbo-diesel V6 producing all the sound, refinement and driving pleasure typical of Maserati while delivering fuel consumption below six litres per 100 km on the NEDC formula. The Ghibli diesel will also become the first Maserati with Start-Stop technology. It shares much of its core architecture, including its crash safety, its chassis, its suspension architecture, its engines and its LED headlight technology, with the larger Quattroporte, though it is 50 kg lighter, 173 mm shorter in the wheel base and 291 mm shorter overall.The Ghibli’s design team was challenged to produce a sedan that emphasized its more dynamic driving characteristics through a more aggressive visual personality, yet still maintained discernible visual links with the Quattroporte. The outline of the body reflects a coupe-like philosophy for the four-door sedan, while there are strong feline hints around the Ghibli’s grille and headlights. The grille takes its inspiration from the current GranTurismo and it can draw a line back to the classic 1950s A6 GCS. It also maintains Maserati’s distinctive C-pillar treatment, which delivers much of the coupe-like stance and carries the classical Saetta Maserati logo, carrying on a tradition dating back to 1963.The side profile is dominated by a swage line that runs from the traditional Maserati grille vents behind the front wheels and finishes in the rear lights themselves.Inside, the Ghibli sets itself apart from the Quattroporte with a unique dashboard design that perfectly matches its sportier and more youthful character without losing any of the luxury expected from Maserati. The same contoured main flap and easy PressTop access, internal and external grab handles, expanding double dump pockets to the front and zippered pocket to the rear. Where the 307L comes into its own is inside the bag. A fixed, robust laptop slipcase is built into the padded interior and a base provides impact protection. As with the other models in the range, the 307L can be fitted with our optional Delta pockets for extra capacity.
