Dear Students, Imagine it’s summertime, and you’re building a sand castle. We all know that patience is important, taking your time, and using wet sand… but even more important: the foundation. Clear away all the dry sand and start on something solid. A sandcastle is a bit like a school, and it’s good to know what the foundation of your school is. Not the concrete and steel, but what are your teachers striving to do as they support you on your learning journey. A great teacher is like a guide, lighting the way, anticipating your path, and giving you what you need to succeed. Your early years at school are the best time to establish good study habits, and then it’s easy to focus on your work. When you love learning, you become a self-motivated, successful student. What does that mean, anyway? Is success about grades and being able to get into good universities? Is it about landing the big job or building a solid career? Is it about how much money you make? As you grow, you develop your own ideas about success, but for now, what does the most powerful version of your self look like? What would you do, if you could, and why? So many questions! The way to make the world a better place is simply this: by being the best you can be! Believing in yourself is key. Believing that you can try, and try again, and practice, and apply yourself, problem-solve, innovate, and improve until … yes, you can. Kempenfelt Bay School, a non-profit, independent, JK – 8 school in Innisfil, Ontario, is committed to building the leaders of tomorrow. They promote this powerful growth mindset throughout their programs. Teachers at KBS understand that they are growing and nurturing our future society; they know that you are busy thinking and learning every day. Not only do they want to help you grow your intellect, by expanding your mind and your abilities, they want you to become the best possible person that you can be.
integrated into your day, so that you are provided with the opportunity to express yourself and get comfortable showing and sharing who you are. There is an art specialist on staff to help you explore many different fine art skills and techniques, and in grade 3, you can learn to play an instrument and join the jazz or concert band, sing in the choir, and perform in the spring musical! They want you to build character: good citizenship is all about being a strong member of your family and your community, to contribute to the well-being of all. This includes global and environmental awareness, and being a good caretaker of the planet, as well. There is always an appropriate, ethical way to stand up for yourself and others, and KBS wants to help you develop those life-long skills, as a responsible, caring person. Finally, they want you to have a sense of community: to understand that we all function as part of a larger group, like family, our class, our school, our city, our country. It’s important for us all to do something that makes a difference, to make things better and brighter everywhere we go, in everything we do. Thinking in this way can get you started in leadership roles, and eventually towards a future that is both successful and rewarding. When you start a new school year, or if you go to a new school, like KBS, you may feel a bit uncertain at first. You should know that the adults who plan your education (your parents and teachers), all have the same goal: to help you grow and develop into a happy, healthy, well-adjusted young adult with goals and dreams that you know you can achieve. They want you to have that solid foundation to build on. So aim high, castles in the sky! Repeat it to yourself whenever you need to: I can, I will! Sincerely, Kempenfelt Bay School

Essential oils are naturally occurring, aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants that are extracted through steam distillation, cold-pressing or resin tapping. Essential oil use and aromatherapy dates back to ancient civilizations who used them to improve their physical and emotional well-being. More and more people are now looking into essential oils because they are natural and have proven health benefits. As a mom, I love using essential oils for my family to support our overall health and wellness. We have eliminated all toxic household cleaners, and now make our own using essential oils.

It’s currently estimated that over 85,000 chemicals are used in our modern manufacturing of household cleaners and personal care products. Eliminating toxic chemicals from our homes and the products that we use on our body every day can have significant impact on our health and how we feel. Choosing Certified Pure Test Grade essential oils in your daily self-care routine is a great way to feed your body the natural goodness of plants. I recently had the opportunity to interview my daughter who is 8 years old about essential oils. She fell in love with essential oils immediately, and intuitively understands how the oils impact her health and wellness.
25
What do you love best about
What is your favourite essential oil?
essential oils?
I love Wild Orange. It wakes me up. I love to smell it and put it in my diffuser necklace. My friends at school all love the smell too. It reminds me of orange butterflies flying in the field. It’s very soft and fruity. It makes me feel good, gentle and light. I love Easy Air because it has eucalyptus in it. It makes me feel like I am in the wind or on the top of a mountain over a waterfall. I feel like a big tree with my branches flowing in the wind. It really helps me when I am sick because you can breathe the oil in and it helps to clean out your lungs.
I love how they smell and I love how they make you feel. I love how different oils mean different things, like lavender calms you down, and wild orange wakes you up. Lavender was the first oil that I smelled. It reminds me of a flower and makes me think of a beautiful meadow and rocking a baby to sleep. What was it like the first time you used essential oils?
I express myself by using different oils that help my body. I found that using lavender and Cedarwood in my diffuser at bedtime helped me to go to sleep. The different smells make you feel happy, calm, cheerful. They really help me with my emotions and they help keep me healthy.
Why do you think essential oils work?
They are made out of the most pure plants in the world like herbs, flowers, fruit, and trees and they can help your body. It’s also important to listen to your parents because they will know how much oil and what oils to use.

Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus). Weight at birth: 600 g (1.25 lb). Max. length of male: 2.6 m (8’6”) / Female: 2.1 m (6’11”). Max. weight of male: 800 kg (1,800 lb) / Female: 300 kg (660 lb). Lifespan in the wild: 29– 32 years (females live slightly longer than males).

Finding the perfect spot for her den in the fall, pregnant females will give birth to their newborn cubs around late December and the New Year. Weighing it at a tiny 600g at birth, they will grow quickly before exiting the den for the first time in April. On average, females will give birth to two cubs, however, single cubs or triplets are not unheard of. For the first two and a half years of their lives, the cubs will never get too far from their mother’s line of site. Along the way, cubs will learn how to use their amazing sense of smell to locate their main prey, the ringed seal.
Did you know?
The most southerly population of polar bears in the world is in Canada. Churchill, Manitoba is known as the polar bear capital of the world. Is considered to be a marine mammal. Under a microscope, a polar bear’s fur is hollow.
30
With her cub of the year, this relatively thin mother wanders off to find a quite place to nurse. Feeding on milk with an approximate fat content of thirty-five per cent, this cub will rely on its mother’s ability to find food so that it will be large enough to survive its first winter. Although they live relatively solitary lives, there is a highly social side of these intriguing polar bears. Unable to leave her cub alone to feed, the female must wait to gather scraps when she has a chance. She will need to gather the equivalent of an average of one seal per week in order to keep herself going and ready for the harshness of the Arctic winter. These photos were taken at the end of June; only the beginning of the tough times that will follow during a summer that is free of ice.
Polar Bear ABCs:
Some 250–350,000 years ago, polar bears evolved from a group of brown bears that lived on a small group of islands in southeast Alaska, part of the Alexander Archipelago. These islands are known as the ABC islands; Admiralty, Baranof and Chichagof.
31
Not to far from where the family come to rest are the remains of a Fin whale. Frozen into the annual sea ice in the fall, it lies submerged along the shoreline. As many as twelve bears feed, digest and observe the others around them as they take turns feeding on the carcass.
32
By the end of August, the snow and ice have been gone for some time and it will be many months still before it forms again, bringing with it the seals they will feed upon. On its own for the first time, everything is new to the young polar bear. Forced to fend for itself, it will investigate everything as it navigates the fast ice along the front of glaciers while perfecting the art of hunting. No longer able to rely on its mother for the next meal, the coming year is key to its survival. In a continuous search for its next meal, some polar bears may go months between substantial feeding. In the meantime, birds, their eggs, carrion and even seaweed will be on the menu, as long as the energy used to attain it will not exceed that which is gained. With no ice in sight, these strong swimmers will travel great distances in search of a meal. No stone will be left unturned when it comes to food. If all goes well the young polar bears in these photos may wander thousands and thousands of kilometers a year for the next twenty-five to thirty years. Wherever the conditions are right to attract seals, along the fronts of glaciers or on the ice over shallower productive waters, you will find the polar bears. Each day, their existence is challenged by the harshness of the polar environment and the external pressures that are causing it to change. We know for sure that no matter what, they will continue to face those challenges in an attempt to survive. What we are yet to find out, is how long their environment will continue to produce the conditions that will make this possible.

Your pet Making him turn heads by
Heidi RJ, P.N.A Pet Nutrition Advocate
Whenever my dog and I take a sunny stroll along the trails, fellow dog walkers often turn their heads our way. “Wow! Your dog is so pretty and so white!” they declare. “Why thank you,” I proudly respond. “She tends to think so too!” “How often do you bathe her?” they ask. “Actually, unless she’s gotten into or rolled in something, I don’t.” I always get a puzzled look with that answer. “It’s actually just the corn in her food!” I get another look of confusion. “Corn?” they ask.
“Yup, corn! It’s a source of protein and carbohydrate and a great source of Omega Fatty Acids (O.F.A’ s), which are an important part of what help to preserve her skin and hair coat. It’s what helps make her shiny.” “Huh, cool. I didn’t know that.” The nutrients found in O.F.A’ s help to maintain a ceramide barrier in the skin locking in moisture and helping to block out allergens, pollutants and indoor heated air that may cause for a dry, over shedding coat - thus creating a silky, shiny one that will turn heads!
The benefit of O.F.A’ s
• They are also a great and natural source anti-inflammatory. • Helpful for our arthritic, orthopedic dogs and larger breed, developing pups. • They even help with cognitive function - beneficial for both our developing and senior pet friends.
A glossy coat is the first sign of a healthy, happy pet. 34

A beautiful, white smile also means a healthier, more aesthetic looking pet, (not to mention that no one likes to get a greeting from a pet with bad breath!) Since they can’t brush their teeth like we can, it’s up to us to do it for them. The most ideal way to maintain your pet’s pearly whites would be to start actually brushing their teeth with a toothbrush and paste from the get go. It’s important to note that we cannot use human toothpaste for our furry family friends. Pet stores and veterinarians sell over the counter, pet specific toothpastes in a variety of flavours - poultry and vanilla mint seeming to be the top pick of most dogs and their people. Other options for your best pal’s oral care could be bones or chew toys meant to help encourage chewing and mouth movement. Choosing a high quality food for your pet with safe additives, such as sodium tri-polyphosphate, can also help your pet’s teeth to shimmer by binding calcium in the saliva, and digesting it in the stomach and utilizing in the body, as opposed to having it accumulate in the mouth, leaving behind plaque and building up tartar on the teeth. Smaller breed pets are more susceptible to tooth decay, as their mouths are more crowded with less room to move and chew, juxtaposed to larger breeds which tend to chew on larger kibble, bones and toys helping to keep their teeth clean. Simply switching your pets food to a high quality diet with low indigestible proteins (L.I.Ps), Omega fatty acids, fibre and other micro ingredients, like vitamins, minerals and dental additives, is the simplest, most affordable way to maintain a beautiful, and thus overall happy, healthy, long living family friend that will turn heads too!
Malted Peach and Yogurt Popsicles This is a healthy, mineral-rich version of a delicious popsicle. The minerals found in the Mineral Matrix are great for keeping your teeth and bones strong, but it also gives your popsicle an awesome malted flavor. Grab you favourite popsicle molds and let’s begin! •2 peaches diced •1/2 cup berries or pitted cherries (fresh OR •frozen •1 cup organic plain greek yogurt •1 tsp vanilla •3 TBSP St. Francis Mineral Matrix (this gives it the malted taste) •honey to taste •popsicle molds
Mix your yogurt with vanilla (to give it a little sweetness), Mineral Matrix and as much honey as you like (the fruit and vanilla makes it sweet too, so you won’t need much) - mix it gently to ‘swirl’ the Mineral Matrix in, which looks really nice in the molds. Drop a few cherries or berries into your molds first, and then add a spoon of yogurt, followed by a layer of peaches. Keep repeating until your mold is full, then insert your stick. Freeze and enjoy!
Directions: When peaches are not in season I recommend using the frozen kind because they are sweeter!
These grain-free, flourless snacks are also no-bake, so they are fun and easy to whip up with OR without your parents.
Lemon Cashew Cookie Dough This raw ‘cookie dough’ is delicious – like eating cookie dough straight out of the bowl! You can roll them into balls OR just eat the dough with a spoon!

•1 cup cashews •1 cup coconut flour •1/3 cup nut butter (almond or sunflower seed butter are tasty!) •1/3 cup honey (or maple syrup – add more if you like it sweeter!) •1 tsp vanilla extract •pinch of sea salt •1/2 tsp cinnamon •zest of one lemon •juice of 1/2 lemon (more or less depending on how sticky your dough is) Place all ingredients in the food processor. Whirl it all together. Scrape down the sides every once in a while using a spoon as your mixture stops blending. Your dough is ready when you can pinch it together and it sticks. Theme your party by
Deedra Lalonde |

When planning a birthday, the very first thing to decide is a theme. Once that is chosen, everything begins to fall into place. With Pinterest as a resource, the sky’s the limit. Chances are that someone, somewhere on this huge blue planet of ours has thrown a birthday with a similar theme that you can draw inspiration from. But be sure to do your own spin on things. Being original is key and that’s where the magic happens! Traditional party games can easily be recreated to match the theme with a little imagination and elbow grease. In the case of a donut themed party such as this one, instead of pin the tail on the donkey, how about ‘Pin The Hole on the Donut’. Ever think about making a donut piñata? Sound hard? Think again!
39
Jennifer Klementti
YouTube is full of piñata video tutorials! Plan your food table according to the theme. As we all know, cakes are the focal points at a party. If you have stellar cake-making skills and are throwing a donut-themed party, make a giant donut fondant cake or seek out someone who can. Nowadays, cake artists are on every corner and prices are pretty competitive. Draw inspiration anywhere you can. There’s no shortage of ideas out there. Have fun. Let creativity and excitement build so much that it keeps you up at night. You’re building memories to last a lifetime...and isn’t that what it’s all about?

Did you know your Laundry is toxic? These laundry monsters represent reality Together, we can #fixtoxiclaundry by
Von Wong |
photography
Benjamin Von Wong
We have a big problem. Our tap water is being contaminated every single day. The laundry that we do every single day is the cause! 94% of American tap water contains invisible plastic fibers. Tiny plastic fibers in our clothing – polyester, nylon, spandex to name a few – escape every time we do our laundry, and come right back into the water we drink because they’re too small to be captured by wastewater treatment centers. Despite that, not even the most ecofriendly washing machine companies have come up with a solution. I first learned about toxic laundry at a retreat hosted by the National Academy of Sciences. Professor Slakey, a lecturer from Georgetown University in Washington DC, talked about a team of young students he was mentoring that were so bothered by what they had learned that they designed a Fiber Filter capable of capturing invisible pieces of

plastic in our water. I was blown away that kids were trying to solve a global problem that I hadn’t even heard about and offered to help them raise awareness for the issue. A few conversations later, I hopped onto a plane to DC to try and tackle this newly discovered threat. While in DC, I soaked in more sobering facts from the students. I learned that by 2025, the world’s synthetic fiber production will double – so too will the amount of microfibers in our water supply. And it’s not just about avoiding tap water… it’s also starting to infiltrate our salt and beer. The worst part was that there was no solution. Very few companies were taking responsibility, and all the consumer could do was support initiatives like the Fiber Filter, Cora Ball or Guppy Friend. Despite the many awareness campaigns explaining the problem, none offered a large scale solution.
“ I truly believe that if consumers care, corporations will react and that together, we can come together and make a difference.
52
53
#fixtoxiclaundry The three students, (Left to right), Jaime, Lola and Carter, juggled finals, their fiber filter research and our photoshoot to help bring the project to life. After many days of trial, error and iteration our final designs started to emerge with inspirations drawn from the angler fish (designed by Lola), the creepy tendrils from Stranger Things, and some simple snakes. The sets took hours to design as we had to line up the tentacles perfectly in the camera so that they would look perfect. Small flashes were placed inside various monsters to give them the eerie glow that would bring them to life. We borrowed a small pocket projector, clamped it to the ceiling and projected the words BEWARE onto the floor so that the warning would be more obvious to the corporations we were challenging. Cotton balls were dipped in red food coloring, torn up and glued to wire that created the creepy veins that we needed. And in a lovely twist of events, Zaida and Kinley who came to model the unsuspecting victims, were the daughters of Professor Slakey – the person who introduced me to the whole project in the first place. Over the course of the week, over 30 volunteers came and volunteered day and night to bring this project to life. Now that the entire project is done, only one thing remains for us to do: Spread the word as far and wide as possible.
Convincing wastewater treatment centers around the country seemed too daunting, government legislation would take forever and controlling all synthetic fiber manufacturing was completely unrealistic. What seemed realistic though was challenging environmentally conscious corporations positioned to make a difference. All we had to do was attract their attention and ask them to #FixToxicLaundry. There’s only one thing left to do: For you to join the movement and challenge them to see which one replies first. I truly believe that if consumers care, corporations will react and that together, we can come together and make a difference. The project started off extremely simple. We first started with tentacles that were designed by Lee Deslisle, a local volunteer with a background in costume design. They were made out of recycled cardboard, wire and fishing line. They were then dressed up in used clothing supplied by Goodwill DC and an independent clothing drive organized by Carrie, one of our volunteers. The structures were supported with Avenger C-stands and Manfrotto Flex Arms. Over the course of ten days, we transformed what used to be a biology lab into a full-fledged monster assembly line.

I did it!
Music That won’t make you cry by
Darryl Weeks
I am now a father of two wonderful kids (Chloe and Nile), I have an amazing wife (Jenn) and what I think is a reasonably cool record collection. I’m not sure how it happened but my three year old daughter is now addicted to the sweet and snappy melodies of The Wiggles – and you know, they aren’t bad. I was astounded. I thought the music would be terrible. It’s not – the instrumentation is actually pretty great. Putting the lyrics aside, I thought that some of The Wiggles tunes sounded like stuff I dig like The Zombies or The Kinks and yes, of course, The Beatles. This led me to a touch of internet research on the band.
{
What I found after a quick Google search is that two members of The Wiggles used to be in a band called The Cockroaches (an alternative name that The Rolling Stones used in the 60’s). Pretty cool stuff. I started to look at Chloe’s favourite band in a new light. I also quickly noticed that repetition is the key. The more she listens – the more she likes. It was then that I decided that if she likes this she might like some stuff I like. On a recent business trip I purchased her a Stone Roses t-shirt and I started to insert some of Jenn and my musical loves into Chloe’s 24-7 Wiggles playlist. I am sure we will have our One Direction or J. Beebs phase but until then try these:
Bonus tracks:
}
With a newborn in the house, Jenn and I have been reading a lot about the importance of using white noise (and a tight swaddle) to promote sound sleeping. So I downloaded an app. What’s this? Television static, traffic, construction sounds? I have a million records that would work instead. Try anything by Boards Of Canada, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Walls, Max Richter or Blank Mass.

If the walls could talk
“ This is a safe place to grieve, and when you are ready, this is a place to find laughter once again”
Season Centre for Grieving Children
Known to many as a safe haven to manage the overwhelming feelings of grief following the death of a loved one, Seasons Centre For Grieving Children has served as a pillar of strength for families. Established in 1995, after a fatal car accident claimed the lives of two beloved sisters, Seasons Centre For Grieving Children was born and the residence was purchased and reconfigured as a place for families seeking a non judgmental supportive refuge, while searching for ways to cope with loss. Touring the Centre, it does not take long before you feel the magic of this unassuming place. Adorned with the images of loved ones, the walls of the reclaimed home hold the worries and fears of the family members that have grieved within, providing a sanctuary to celebrate the lives of their “unforgettable treasures”. A comfortable and inviting gathering room outfitted with oversized couches and a well-stocked kitchen is a welcoming space for pre-teens, teens, young adults and caregivers to make themselves at home while they find solace in peer-to-peer support groups. The converted upstairs level of the home explores the child’s imagination, where children aged five to eleven, lovingly referred to as “little’s”, are encouraged to play and express their feelings through individual and group activities. Under supportive and supervised care, “little’s” are free to ask questions, explore their feelings through physical activity and celebrate the joyful memories of their loved ones through art therapy. As Development Director Marcy Baldry explains, “Many of our volunteers have experienced loss at a young age and can relate to the helplessness and questions that these children are experiencing. Having these children spend time with our volunteers gives them an opportunity to talk about those deep down feelings of loss without feeling judged or dismissed.” 58

While there is not a “formula” or “time limit” for grief, every child deserves the opportunity to grieve in a supportive and understanding environment. Christine Tucker, a former intake client, recalls how Seasons Centre For Grieving Children helped her through the death of her beloved daughter. “Four years ago after the sudden passing of my daughter Ariel, I was in a fog of grief and time meant nothing. The grieving parent group at Seasons Centre became family and we now share a bond that will last a lifetime. That bond gave us each the support and strength to find our new normal. To go on living and loving with the memories of our precious children embedded in our hearts.” Funded solely by private donations and the generosity of the community, foundations, service clubs, organizations and individual donations, Season’s Centre For Grieving Children works closely with Hospice and Gilda’s Club, while providing local schools with emergency grief support when needed. The Centre remains committed to fulfilling its’ mission to provide complimentary peer-to-peer support programs in a safe home-like atmosphere for children, teens and their families grieving a loved one. The ordinary house, on an ordinary street, is nothing less than extraordinary. For those who have been graciously received, they understand all too well the significance of the supportive smiles of the staff and dedicated volunteers that grace the hallways and lend their support in times of sorrow and the work that is done to have hope restored. 59

Zach is a normal kid, living in Barrie, Ontario. He had been exposed to mental health issues in his family and his school and was determined to do something about it.
Fortunately, he received so much support over social media, inspiring him to keep on going. A few things that pushed Zach along his way are:Family and friends, Donors, Support from the community, Sponsors, Inner drive. Many supporters of Zach’s campaign for mental health wonder what day was the hardest for Zach, and how he overcame it. Zach replied with, “Day 12. It was the hardest day ever because my step dad and I had to bike uphill all the way.” We then asked him how he overcame this arduous journey. Zach’s answer was honest and sincere as he replied with, “Well, I really wanted to quit but my mom said lots of people were sending kind messages over social media, like ‘You are fighting for kids who can’t fight for themselves.’ That was really motivating. AND my mom said there was a Wild Wings at the end of the road!” Aren’t we all glad that Zach managed to weather through that day. Even now, with his run over, Zach has raised over $120,000 for the brand new Child & Youth Mental Health Unit at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH). Most importantly, he brought a lot of attention to a serious medical issue that is becoming more and more prevalent in our youth - MENTAL HEALTH. Zach still has plans for the future - one of which is to meet Ellen Degeneres. We are positive we will see Zach make headlines once again. zachmakestracks.ca
Many jealous or egotistic people would say, “sure… I could run to Ottawa” and some probably could. The real meaning in what I see here is how Zachary decided to JUST DO IT. If more people followed up with their claims to do something great, the world would be a better place, each great act of selflessness striving to top the rest. When Zach was questioned about his inspiration, he replied without hesitation, “Terry Fox, Anna-Leise Carr, and… my Mum”. It seemed that Zach’s run was the baby of Zach’s three heroes. Terry’s run, Anna-Leise’s younger age, and Shelley’s determination all factored into the local hero we see today. While Zach may have seemed trouble free during his journey, he had obstacles of his own to overcome. The first was his fear of public speaking. While struggling to overcome this road block, he kept it no secret that he was no fan of public speaking. Zach said it made him feel as though he was bragging and he was terrified that he would say the wrong thing. This all worked out in his campaigns favour though, by relating to his audience that you don’t have to scream loudly for people to hear you. His other obstacle was the attention, so many eyes made Zach feel uncomfortable, and he felt a need to be perfect for everyone.

Amigo Skate
Skateboarding in cuba by

“There is no better feeling in the world than doing something that brings you happiness. For Amigo Skate and their “merry band of misfits”, this happiness comes from a deep connection with Cuba and an unspoken bond that they have found through skateboarding. A charity initiative that developed from an idea to collect, refurbish and rebuild unwanted and broken skateboard equipment, then recycling it back to skaters in need, Amigo Skate has become a passion project for friends and business partners, Scott McDonald and René Lecour. Travelling to Cuba three or four times a year, the duo describes their philanthropic work as a way to bring happiness to kids who otherwise currently cannot afford to partake in the beloved sport. Seeing skateboarding as a creative outlet and a way for youth to reconnect with themselves, Scott and René’s main mission has been to provide kids and youth with the opportunity to have fun while challenging themselves through discipline and perseverance. As Scott describes, “The art of skateboarding teaches many important life lessons and pushes to you to try again when you feel that you have been beaten down.
88
In skateboarding, you push yourself to succeed, and this skill can be translated in other parts of your life. These character traits become very beneficial as you get older.” Among the projects that Amigo Skate has spearheaded in support of the Cuban skateboarding initiative, the charity is working hard to have the sport licensed and federally sanctioned. If all goes well, this would deter police interference, harassment and possible confiscation. The duo is also working closely with Cuba’s federal sports agency, INDER, with hopes to follow through with plans for an outdoor skateboard park in Havana. Spending time with the kids in the streets of Cuba and seeing them happy brings the Amigo Skate family a sense of accomplishment and purpose. Although they have paid out of pocket at times for equipment to cross the border, Scott and René believe in their cause and that it is making a positive difference in the lives of the children they are reaching. They encourage travellers to bring their used skateboard equipment to Cuba the next time they are visiting, or donations can be made through their website amigoskate.com.
There is nothing better that you can do but deliver a message of love.”

live remarkably What if a community developer invited ideas from beekeepers and berry growers. Left woodland paths for wildlife to traverse. Restored fishing ponds and built toboggan hills for neighbourhood kids to enjoy. Created their very own ‘Field of Dreams’. And named a hilltop ‘Starfall’ because you can see the Milky Way from there. Remarkably, there is only one. Georgian International.
