QUITE INCREDIBLE. AS IT SHOULD BE. Fun, insincerity and comedy. Sometimes itʼs nice to make merry. With videoart.

cantina montone is pleased to present dérèglement des passions, curated by Pietro Montone, from 10 February to 9 March, 2014. The title of the exhibit alludes to madness in terms of the “deregulation" of passion based upon the interpretations of Pinel and Esquirol, the founding fathers of psychiatry. Thus, delirium is the result of extreme emotions. Enveloped within a paradox, verging between excess and futility, it represents an attempt to go beyond the limits of what is commonly viewed as logical. Art, like a Stultifera navis, has always embraced madness as the only point of encounter with reality which can restore true knowledge and awareness. A work of art, the result of mental alteration, nurtures thought when it induces people to view themselves and the world from another perspective. Through a painstaking selection of videos presented in succession, the exhibit analyzes the relationship between art and madness. A journey through

“deregulation”, and the strength and fragility of human condition transfigured by the visionary ability of five artists. In a combination of real and fictitious images, Michel Auderʼs My First Pipe of Opium reveals and re-dimensions his obsession with drugs. Claire Fontaine, in I through the demolition of an iPhone, calls attention to working class resistance to technological change. While in 126419, skin is viewed as a subtle barrier between the present and the past: a young man receives the tattoo of an Auschwitz survivor. In Unrealistic Mountaineers, John Wood & Paul Harrison, on the summit of a snow-covered mountain, deride manʼs ambitions to conquer the world. In Die Jagd, Christian Jankowski, armed with a bow and arrow, hunts down products in a supermarket. A visionary combination of nobility and consumerism. Anneè Olofssonʼs Parodiso delves into the issues of time and aging as she boards an old amusement park train, the number of rides she takes are equal to her age.

NOTES cantina montone / contemporary artistic expressions is a dynamic, experimental project: a multidisciplinary venue aimed at delving into territorĂŽ contemporanei and changing society. Founded in 2012, the initiative is situated in the unpolished space of a small, seventeenth-eighteenth century wine cellar and offers a view on the world of culture: ranging the gamut from visual arts, literature, cinema, photography, poetry and music to... wine.
