Anniversary Supreme Chapter "incredible" The largest ever attended convention of Pi Kappa Phi, with more outstanding events, greater participftian by wives of alumni, larger alumni attendance and the adjectives could go on and on. For the 37th Supreme Chapter, your fraternity's 75th Anniversary Convention, was
in every way an incredible moment in its already good history. With excellent photography provided by Tim Ribar, Roanoke, assisted by Bill Creighton, Charleston, the events and people were better covered than for any previous
Those were really the days! The emotional highlight of the 75th Anniversary Supreme Chapter was the memorial activities of Tuesday evening, August 21. Only Pi Kapps could fully grasp the significance of the events as they unfolded both before and around them.
meeting of Pi Kappa Phi. These pictures will be the base source of coverage. They should provide more than adequate information for those not attending, and also refreshments of memories for those who did participate in person.
LEADERSHIP IN HANDS OF NEW NATIONAL COUNCIL Of immediate importance for the whole fraternity will be the alumni elected as officers for the next two years. Especially will these members of the National Council be critical when viewed in perspective of their comparative inexperience. Four of the six elected have not previously served as National Officers. LONNIE STRICKLAND, ALABAMA, NATIONAL PRESIDENT, is a most popular professor of management at the University of Alabama. He has served the Fraternity as Treasurer and Vice-President. Dr. Strickland is a sought after speaker and facilitator of meetings by organizations in both the private and public sectors. He and his wife, (CONTINUED ON PAGE 4)
Alumni of Pi Kappa Phi from Charleston set the stage with a stirring rendition of the first meeting of Pi Kappa Phi on December 10, 1904 at the Garden Theater. Those involved were, from left to right, John Hassell, Charlie Barrett, David Guerry, Glenn McConnell, Noel Fuller, Bobby Sheppard, and Randy Rhea. Then a reminder and charge was given to all by Brother Noel Fuller appearing as Founder Harry Mixson as he addressed the student leaders of Pi Kappa Phi at the second Pi Kapp College in 1961. An outstanding cast of student members of Alpha Chapter placed the evening in perspective with a re-enactment of the original Ritual of Initiation. No pictures and no written description are available for those not there; however, it was conducted with expertise beyond expectation. The honor initiate for the event was Brother Maury Covington, and he was assigned to Beta Chapter. Maury's father, Ben Covington, and brothers, Ben, III, and Terry are all Pi Kapps.
The large contingent of Pi Kapps left the Garden Theater and moved through the streets of Charleston to the College where they passed through the Memorial Gateway, a gift of the 25th Anniversary Convention in 1929. Inside a presentation was made to the college of a Rose Garden containing 75 plants in recognition of the event.
Then on to the place of our founding, 90 Broad Street, Charleston, SC. Alumni, students and guests joined together for the 12 block walk, a walk taken by our Founders themselves as they, students at the College of Charleston, created the organization we were now celebrating. Quite naturally the minds of those participating turned to that day 75 years ago and were all thankful.

Grievous error committed Through insufficient proofreading by the Editor, there was an error of enormous proportions in the summer issue of the STAR AND LAMP. The list of alumni being honored for 50 years of membership, Golden Legion, was prepared. It was inadvertently switched with a list of decease d members. Therefore, these very loyal 50 year members appeared under the heading of deceased members, and vice versa. Apology is here extended to all concerned and a corrected list of the Golden Legion recipients appears below. Please review this new list and acknowledge their correct position in the Fraternity. Pi Kappa Phi Foundation trustees held their biannual meeting while attending the Anniversary Convention in Charleston.
While changing the name from the "Pi Kappa Phi Scholarship Foundation" to "Pi Kappa Phi Foundation", the Trustees of the Foundation, at their biannual August meeting in Charleston, South Carolina, took three significant strides to expand the effectiveness and emphasis of the tax-exempt Foundation. Of major importance was the decision to include Project P.U.S.H., the Fraternity's national philanthropic program, as one of the fund raising goals of the Foundation. Secondly, the concept was initiated for the Foundation to accept contributions for housing development, thus furthering the ability of alumni to assist their individual chapters and Pi Kappa Phi Proper-
ties, Inc. in providing suitable chapter housing. Thirdly, the Foundation will now accept contributions for other designated purposes, such as chapter scholarship funds. The Foundation remains able to provide financial assistance to worthy students, and will continue its support of the various leadership development programs offered by Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. This newly expanded ability will provide alumni a tax-deductible status for their contributions in the above categories. Why not pursue the thought of a taxdeductible gift, whether of capital or lesser nature, to the Foundation to support the program you prefer?
A SAFE INVESTMENT WITH A GOOD DIVIDEND Have you ever invested in a young man's college education? It is an investment in which you can take pride. Here is your opportunity. The Pi Kappa Phi Foundation is dedicated to providing financial assistance and encouragement to young men who desire an education but are without sufficient funds. The Foundation is a tax exempt organization operated by a volunteer Board of Trustees who are members of your Fraternity. The young men who will be leaders in our nation in the future are on the campuses of our colleges right now; some of them need our assistance and support. An investment in a young man's college education will help to
prepare him better, both for good citizenship and for tomorrow's responsibilities. The inclusion of the following clause in your will (or your designation of the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation in your life insurance policy as a beneficiary) will insure that you will be a part of some young man's future: "I give, devise, and bequeath to the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation the sum of Dollars." (or otherwise describe the gift if it consists of real estate, securities, or personal property.)
DO IT TODAY For additional information regarding the Foundation, write the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation, P.O. Box 240526, Charlotte, NC 28224.

These Alumni are recognized for their fraternity activity Prior to each Supreme Chapter, the National Council nominates outstanding alumni members of Pi Kappa Phi for a very special award. This award is presented to only nine members every two years. They are men of distinction. Men who have served Pi Kappa Phi in every sense of the word. The award is the Merit Citation of Pi Kappa Phi. At the 37th Supreme Chapter in Charleston, the following men were nominated by the National Council to receive a Merit Citation Award. The Supreme Chapter overwhelmingly passed a motion recognizing these select few. They are: John Kieser, Alpha Mu Chapter, for his work with Alpha Mu Chapter Alumni Corporation, service as a Chapter Advisor, his contributions to fund raising activities, and a member of Pi Kappa Phi for 50 years. Ron Krebs, Beta Gamma Chapter, for his past service as National Secretary, Area Governor, leader in expansion as well as numerous other programs. James Lynch, Alpha Iota Chapter, for his participation in national affairs, leadership in both Mobile
and Alabama area alumni affairs, and his service as confidant to student members. Charles Hazlehurst, Kappa Chapter, for his lengthy membership and for his long friendship and help to student members. Clyde McSpadden, Delta Epsilon Chapter, for his outstanding and lengthy service as a Chapter Advisor and Area Governor, as well as his expansion efforts in Jacksonville. Ray Smith, Alpha Phi Chapter, for his long term interest in Pi Kappa Phi and Alpha Phi Chapter and for his service as a Chapter Advisor.
A 75th Anniversary cake, cut by the daughter of Founder Fogarty, Elizabeth Fogarty, is in itself a significant event. Especially if the cake is large enough for over 700 attending to enjoy a slice. However, it becomes a super event if the first slice is served by Miss Fogarty to the son of Founder Kroeg, Alex Kroeg, III. What a great moment in Pi Kappa Phi.
Julius Burges, Alpha Chapter, for his work with Alpha Chapter, the Supreme Chapter, Charleston area alumni, and with Pi Kappa Phi. Jack Steward, Alpha Zeta Chapter, for his long and devoted service to Pi Kappa Phi, Serving on the National Council and as a Chapter Advisor. Jim Phillips, Omicron Chapter, for his long years of service to Pi Kappa Phi and particularly his activities with Omicron Chapter and its Housing Corporation.
Leadership training also included
At each Supreme Chapter, the Area Governors attending meet as an advisory group. This is the Area Governors' Council and here are some of the 16 Area Governors who were in attendance. This group was chaired by Bill Finney, Georgia Southwestern, in Charleston; however, he has been replaced by Steve DePalma, Newark, who will be Chairman of the Area Governors until August 1981.
P.U.S.H. poster receives award The National Advertising Agency Network has awarded Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and Project P.U.S.H. its second place award for public service advertising. This was considered among the best works submitted by agency members throughout the United States.
The many student experiences at the Charleston convention included an excellent opportunity for leadership training. The curriculum was deliberately established to cover three highly significant subjects. The students received outstanding instruction in recruiting or rush, from former Director of Membership, Henry Groves, Memphis State. The logical next step in the process of membership development is the education of the prospective initiate. Pat Farley, West Virginia, did an interesting session on this subject using as the base various options to hazing.
The award was presented at the fall conference of the National Advertising Agency Network in Aspen, Colorado. The nationwide award was presented by the National Advertising Agency Network at
its 40th Annual Awards Show. The Silver Star Award will be displayed permanently in the Administrative Office of Pi Kappa Phi. The poster was designed by Jim Mountjoy of McConnell and Associates Advertising Agency in Charlotte, North Carolina. Bill Loeffler, senior partner of the advertising firm and a member of Rho Chapter at Washington and Lee University, accepted the award for Pi Kappa Phi.
Your child need financial help? The Pi Kappa Phi Foundation has recently announced a new scholarship to be awarded to sons and daughters of alumni members of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. Initially, the scholarship will have an annual value of $500.00. Consideration for this scholarship will be given to children of Pi Kappa Phi alumni who are enrolled as full-time students in an accredited college or university as undergraduates or graduate students. Applicants will be reviewed in light of their superior academic
records and their active participation in college and/or civic activities. This scholarship is evidence of the growing interest that the Pi Kappa Phi alumni have taken in the Foundation through their financial support. All interested in applications for this scholarship should be directed to the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation at P. 0. Box 240526, Charlotte, North Carolina 28224.
15 CENTS OR A QUARTER Initiation is the final act of membership and in Pi Kappa Phi the Ritual of Initiation is the vehicle for that important event. Dr. Ed King, Dean of Men at Bradley, and a member of Sigma Chi did his usual outstanding job of presenting his "A Sigma Chi Looks at the Pi Kappa Phi Ritual" for the edification of members and guests present. This brief exploration of leadership is a sample of what student leaders might expect of Pi Kapp College in August at Roanoke College.
Please send us your correct mailing address. When you move include Pi Kappa Phi as one to be notified of your address change. Even if the Administrative Office is able
to locate you, and the odds are not too favorable that we will, it does so at considerable cost. Send your new address to P. 0. Box 240526, Charlotte, North Carolina 28224.

RESOLUTIONS OF ACTION The 37th Supreme Chapter met in Charleston August 19 - 22 and acted on a number of resolutions of action. Included were: An alumni orientation program, which will be instructed to all associate members, will be prepared by the Administrative Office and presented to the delegates of Pi Kapp College in 1980.
tion, By-Laws, and Articles of Incorporation, through which the Board of Directors was able to give direction to the Executive Committee. Among these were the desire to have further study given towards changing the corporation's principal place of business in Florida to a more convenient location in that state, if Florida laws would allow. Also, the Executive Committee, led by Kelley Bergstrom (Iowa State), was authorized to select another auditor for 1979-80. The Board of Directors affirmed the Executive Committee's decisions which have produced continued growth and strength in the Corporation's assets and financial position over the past two years, and unanimously reelected the existing members of the Executive Committee to serve an additional two years. Of paramount importance during the two-day meeting was the openness in which the sessions were conducted. All students and alumni had the opportunity to raise questions and insert ideas
policies of the fraternity. During the next ten years, an expansion program increasing the number of chapters by three in every state where a chapter now exists will be implemented. A progress report is to be prepared for the 40th Supreme Chapter in 1985. Secondly, during the next ten years, the Administrative Office shall emphasize its expansion efforts in the area of North America which is north and west of the present geographical center of the fraternity. This geographical center is approximately 30 miles north of Nashville, Tennessee.
regarding the structure, finances and operating procedures of Pi Kappa Phi Properties, Inc., which in thirteen years has assisted over twenty percent of our Fraternity's chapter housing in a direct fashion. In addition to the numerous students in attendance, those alumni present, and their chapter housing corporations represented, were: Steve Ryder (California - Berkeley), Vernon Stansell (Oklahoma), Mike Castellano (Missouri), Dr. Lewis Bullock (Southern California), Jerry Jones (East Tennessee State), Leroy Langston (Georgia), John Shaffer (Florida State), Ken Adams (Michigan State), Mike Dacus (Memphis State), and Dick Murray (Rensselaer). Executive Committee members present were Kelley Bergstrom (Iowa State), John Deimler(Drexel), Bernard Jones (Charleston), Tom Dalton (Georgia), and David Lane (Purdue). The National Council was represented by Lonnie Strickland Scharfenstein Ted (Alabama), (Florida Southern), Al Brown (New Jersey Institute of Technology) and Fred Diulus (Florida State).
for fund raising ideas and disseminate this information to other chapters. The Supreme Chapter directed that, in the future, each proposed site for the next convention submit information on their city to the Time and Place Committee for consideration. The Administrative Office is to conduct a feasibility study to determine the amount and type of computer services that would benefit the administration of the fraternity. Duties of the chapter advisors were expanded to include the following. First, the chapter advisor will review, on a regular basis, the associate member education program for his chapter. At least once each school term, the chapter advisor is to meet with the associate members of the chapter. In addition, the chapter advisor is to hear all concerns that associate chapter members may have in reference to the fraternity. The Supreme Chapter directed that the fraternity proceed with the development of a Pi Kappa Phi Credit Union for the benefit of its members.
Prior to the opening session of the Supreme Chapter, the National Council has much to do and, therefore, meets for two days. Here, with invited alumni are, left to right, Vernon Stansell, Oklahoma; Steve Ryder, California; Al Brown, Newark; Ernest DeLaney, Drake; Charles Rowland, Georgia; Phil Tappy, Georgia; Lonnie Strickland, Alabama; Ted Scharfenstein, Florida Southern; and Fred Diulus, Florida State.
The minimum charter standards for associate chapters were reviewed and several changes were made. All associate chapters must have at least one fund raising effort for Project P.U.S.H., the fraternity's national philanthropic project, prior to chartering. In addition, each associate chapter must now submit a petitioning charter brochure depicting both the past and present activities of the associate chapter. The Administrative Office was directed to name a "big brother" chapter for each associate chapter of the fraternity. The big brother chapter will serve as a supportive group in the various needs of the associate chapter. Several items of interest were passed regarding the expansion
The fraternity's national philanthropic project P.U.S.H. was reviewed at the Supreme Chapter with the following resolutions of action being passed. Information regarding P.U.S.H. is to be publicized through the STAR AND LAMP, C.A.R. newsletters and other fraternity publications and correspondence. For the purpose of associate member and member education programs, a section relating to the purpose of P.U.S.H. will be included in the White Diamond Educational Manual. An awards program will be established to recognize superior achievement by chapters for P.U.S.H. Fund raising seminars will be instructed at Pi Kapp College, Supreme Chapter and Area Conclaves of Pi Kappa Phi. The Administrative Office will survey the chapters
These are a few of the actions which were taken by the 37th Supreme Chapter delegates in Charleston. These actions represent the most significant ones. A complete list may be obtained from the Administrative Office of Pi Kappa Phi, P. 0. Box 240526, Charlotte, North Carolina 28224.

Three very special awards presented in Charleston for service to the total community AREA GOVERNOR OF THE YEAR An Area Governor must be self-motivated to an amazing degree. He is responsible to the National Council for the chapters, alumni and expansion in the geographic area he is assigned. A good one is hard to find but Steve DePalma, Newark, is an exception. He has served as Area Governor, Area I, New York and New Jersey, for three years. He is an excellent Area Governor and has been so designated by the National Council as Pi Kappa Phi's Area Governor of the Year for 1979.
STUDENT OF THE YEAR Each year the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation recognizes the Student of the Year with a financial grant. The person selected is outstanding in many areas, not just fraternity. The 1979 award was presented in Charleston to Mark Timmes, Florida. Among his other activities, Mark has been Archon of Alpha Epsilon Chapter. He has also been president of Phi Eta Sigma and Sigma Tau Sigma; coordinator of the University College Bowl; Who's Who; Omicron Delta Kappa; Mortar Board; Blue Key; President of the University of Florida I.F.C.; and has maintained a 3.6 G.P.A.
Sr/it Mark Timmes (I.), the 1979 Student of the Year, with Dr. Strickland, at that time Vice-President, after just receiving his award from Richard Anderson (r.), Chairman of the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation.
FOR ALUMNI RELATIONS
Steve DePalma was honored with his Area Governor plaque by his wife, Vickie.
CHAPTER ADVISOR OF THE YEAR Perhaps the single most important person for a successful chapter is the Chapter Advisor. He is the continuity so much needed when one considers the transitory nature of the student population. To recognize this necessary person one is named Chapter Advisor of the Year. The outstanding advisor in all of Pi Kappa Phi for this year is Dr. Warren Robb, Louisville. Dr. Robb is currently the advisor of Delta Psi Chapter at University of Texas - Arlington where he is on the faculty.
The President's Plaque is appropriately named, for the Pi Kappa Phi National President does represent the pinnacle of alumni participation. This recognition award acknowledges a chapter for its overall effort to maintain a proper relationship between the student chapter and its alumni. For 1979 the National Council has presented the award to Alpha Theta Chapter, Michigan State.
— Here Dr. Warren Robb receives the plaque acknowledging his being selected as Chapter Advisor of the Year from his wife, Dee.
TOP CHAPTERS IN ALL PI KAPPA PHI The Master Chapter recognition award identifies the accomplishments of student chapters in areas of scholarship, financial control, alumni relations, management, and membership size. The maximum numerical score that can be achieved is 400. Any chapter obtaining a perfect score of 400 is designated as a Champion Master Chapter. The year 1978-1979 only two chapters were able to meet the demanding requirements. They were Gamma, University of California, and Sigma, University of South Carolina. Master Chapters were: Georgia Tech, NE Missouri State, Alabama, North Carolina, Florida, Samford, Western Kentucky, James Madison, Missouri, UNC-Charlotte, Auburn, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Georgia, Iowa State Valdosta State, Wright State, Oklahoma, Livingston and NC State.
Tom Sayre (1.), as designer of the Pi Kappa Phi Project, P.U.S.H., has a special interest in the Service Award being presented here to Lee Peregoff of Xi Chapter. The Roanoke College Chapter was presented a check and a plaque by the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation for its commitment to serving others. Many chapters participated in hundreds of projects and Xi Chapter was selected as the most representative for 1979.

FOR CHAPTER IMPROVEMENT Only one can be number one, but all can improve. Those chapters that improve also need recognition. The Houser Award, named after Theron Houser, former National President, is presented to that chapter which from one year to another exhibits the greatest improvement in overall chapter activity. The 1979 recipient is Delta Delta Chapter of Northeast Missouri.
First Founders' Race was a hot one
Bo Proctor, UNC-C, is the first winner of the first Pi Kappa Phi 10,000 Meter Race. Bo is in the U. S. Marine Corps and was attending his first Supreme Chapter.
Twenty-eight Pi Kapps were up early in Charleston for the Founders' 10,000 Meter Race. This hot August morning, following a night of convention activities, offered a real challenge to those participating. Here instructions are being given by the starters.
Students were not the only entrants in the Founders' Race. Here are (I.) Bill Loeffler, Washington and Lee, a Field Secretary for Pi Kappa Phi in the early '60's and now an advertising executive in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Dr. Lonnie Strickland, Omicron.
With the giant Pi Kappa Phi flag as a background, the 1979 Rose of Pi Kappa Phi receives the recognition of over 700 attending the opening banquet of the 37th Supreme Chapter. This lovely lady is Miss Maria Linda George, nominated by Delta Phi Chapter of Radford College. The flag was obtained for the fraternity by Gamma Delta Chapter at Memphis State.
Pictured here are the members of Omicron Chapter, University of Alabama, who attended the 37th Supreme Chapter. They were together at a reception honoring Mr. Pi Kappa Phi, Emmett Dendy and Hall of Fame achiever, Joe Sewell.

First inductees for Pi Kappa Phi Hall of Fame "The Pi Kappa Phi Hall of Fame shall consist of selected alumni who have distinguished themselves in the fields of Business, Industry, The Arts, Sciences, or Professions; and thereby have brought honor and respect to fraternity." The 37th Supreme Chapter instituted this most important recognition and also installed the first three inductees. President Tappy made the presentation at the formal banquet to the two living recipients. Each was given a handsome plaque which acknowledged the Hall of Fame recognition in emblem and in words as follows: "Over the years, the members of our fraternity have engaged in many varied professions; many rising to outstanding levels of accomplishment, their achievements recognized throughout the world. PI KAPPA PHI feels it is just and fitting on this occasion in our history to offer special recognition to some of our most outstanding members. Tonight we install the first three members in honor of the contributions each has made within his own profession. These three men represent each of the twentyfive year segments of our history.
his literary works is Brother Thomas Wolfe. Readers and play-goers alike can attest to his talent; recalling to mind such well known titles as LOOK HOMEWARD ANGEL or YOU CAN NEVER GO HOME AGAIN. Brother Wolfe's touching and humanistic style of writing has made him a well read, well remembered author and playwrite. Although Brother Wolfe has joined the Chapter Eternal, his name shall always be with us. In recognition of his contributions to the world and the nation, it is only right that he should be admitted as the first member of the PI KAPPA PHI HALL OF FAME. Representing our second twentyfive years is baseball's great Joe Sewell. Graduating in 1920 from the University of Alabama, Brother Sewell starred for sixteen years; first with the Cleveland Indians and then with the New York Yankees. He set two major league records, which still stand, and had a lifetime batting average of 312. He had the distinction of playing ball with such greats as Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Later, Brother Sewell coached for the University of Alabama. From Omicron Chapter,
the second member of the PI KAPPA PHI HALL OF FAME is our Brother Joe Sewell. Our third quarter century and third "inductee" in 1966 became the first Republican ever to be popularly elected to the U.S. Senate from Tennessee. He went on to be twice re-elected by an overwhelming margin in 1972 and 1978. The third member of the PI KAPPA PHI HALL OF FAME is Senator Howard Baker, leader of the United States Senate, and the Republican Party's highest ranking elected official. In 1973, Brother Baker won national recognition as the ViceChairman of the Senate Watergate Committee, and then served as the keynote speaker at the Republican
National Convention in 1976. A member of Alpha Sigma Chapter at the University of Tennessee,Brother Baker got an early start in politics, serving as the President of the Student Body in 1949. Tonight we proudly admit Senator Howard Baker as the third member of the PI KAPPA PHI HALL OF FAME. These names represent men of our fraternity who have excelled to the highest degree in their chosen fields of endeavor, and thus have brought honor and distinction to us, as well as to themselves. They are men of courage and honor, and their names shall always remain with us in the years to come."
Representing our first quarter century is a member of Kappa Chapter at the University of North Carolina. Known throughout the world for
Talented number two man
Nathan Hightower, Alabama, the new Assistant Executive Director of Pi Kappa Phi.
On September 10, Nathan Hightower joined the fraternity staff as Assistant Executive Director. A Tampa, Florida native, Nathan is a graduate of the University of Alabama, Omicron Chapter, where he earned an undergraduate degree in management and a Master's Degree of Business Administration. As an undergraduate, Nathan served as Sports Chairman, Pledge Warden and for two terms as Archon. The Assistant Executive Director's function will include administering to Project P.U.S.H., overseeing of the C.A.R. program and the development of a large scale items for sale subsidiary within the fraternity. Nathan will also be dealing with most matters that involve the Executive Director. We look forward to Nathan's contribution to the fraternity.
The Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity is fortunate to have six of its chief administrators alive and active. This is most unusual and actually constitutes a record for longevity in the Fraternity World. At the 37th Supreme Chapter five of these men were present for the anniversary activities. They are shown in the accompanying picture, from left to right, as follows: Greg Elam, of Beta Chapter at Presbyterian College, who served from 1957 to 1959, is now Vice President of Great American Reserve Insurance Company of Dallas, Texas. Greg was the Archon of the initiation team for the model Ritual performed at the 50th Anniversary Convention. Therefore, the Ritual reinactment activity was of special interest to him. Next is the present Executive Director, Durward Owen, Xi at Roanoke, serving since 1959. To his left is the first paid Administrator, George Sheetz, Alpha Chapter. George, a retired Army Colonel, set the stage for all that followed him, commencing in 1923. He now lives in Thibodaux, Louisiana. To his left is Howard Leake, Rho at Washington & Lee, semi-retired in Birmingham, Alabama. Howard took over in 1928 and was instrumental in relocating the Administrative Office from Charleston to Chicago, Illinois. Absent from the picture was John McCann, Alpha Upsilon at Drexel, who took over from Leake in 1937 and served until the commencing of action in World War II. John is a management consultant in Danbury, Connecticut. Following the war, W. Bernard Jones, Jr., to the extreme right in the photograph, assumed the duties with an office in Richmond, Virginia. Jones had relocated the office to Sumter, South Carolina prior to being succeeded by now deceased Jim Wilson, Sigma at South Carolina, in 1954.

Through the on campus fund raising activity of Delta Pi Chapter at Wright State a video tape unit was presented to the chapter. They in turn brought the unit to Charleston where it was raffled off for P.U.S.H. Over $750.00 was raised in this manner. Here Bill Newell, Cornell, Area Governor II, receives the winning drawing card from P.U.S.H. designer Tom Sayre, UNC-CH.

Many chapters make significant contributions to our fraternity's national philanthropic project P.U.S.H. (Play Units for the Severely Handicapped). However, four chapters of Pi Kappa Phi are truly dedicated in their support of P.U.S.H. These chapters have raised in excess of $1,000.00 each during the 1978-79 school year for P.U.S.H. In recognition of their support, they were honored in Charleston by United States Senator Howard Baker. A new award has been established for those chapters contributing at or above the $1,000.00 level. The award is the President's Club and the first four chapters were inducted this year. Omicron Chapter at the University of Alabama sponsored several projects to benefit P.U.S.H. Most significant was an all-star basketball game featuring the football stars of
the Crimson Tide and the members of Omicron Chapter. The chapter contributed $1,460.00 to help the severely handicapped. The largest contributor to Project P.U.S.H. during the previous year was Michigan State University Alpha Theta Chapter. The chapter sponsored their annual Rose Sale in East Lansing raising over $1,500.00. West Virginia Unviersity, Alpha Rho Chapter, contributed $1,075.00 to P.U.S.H. through a series of fund raising activities in Morgantown, West Virginia. Members of Delta Pi Chapter at Wright State University donated an RCA video-tape system to P.U.S.H. for raffle at the Supreme Chapter. The raffle produced $718.00, and coupled with Delta Pi's prevous contribution, a total of $1,070.00 was contributed.

Mr. Pi Kappa Ph" One of the many highlights of the Charleston convention was the naming of Mr. Pi Kappa Phi for 1979. At the Awards Luncheon, Emmett Orin Dendy, an alumnus of Omicron Chapter at the University of Alabama, was given the honor. The Mr. Pi Kappa Phi Award is the highest honor the Fraternity can bestow on one of its members. The selection is made only once a year by the National Council from the many nominations by alumni and undergraduate members of Pi Kappa Phi. The recipient is recognized for his outstanding contributions and continued fraternal dedication and involvement with Pi Kappa Phi. Emmett Dendy was born in 1925 in a small Alabama town. He graduated from high school in Luverne, Alabama, in 1944 and chose the University of Alabama to further his education. In May of 1946, he was initiated at Omicron Chapter, thus beginning what would be his long fraternal experience in Pi Kappa Phi. While an undergraduate, he was active in many chapter activities. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army and in 1948 married the former Joy Pearson. Brother Dendy owns a successful lumber company in Tuscaloosa Pearson Lumber. In addition, his interests include cattle farming in Mississippi. His involvement with Pi Kappa Phi has been phenomenal. Brother Dendy has served Omicron Club, Inc., for many years. The beautiful Omicron Chapter house in Tusca-
loosa is one of the tangible results of his efforts. For many years he has assisted the undergraduate chapter members in the area of advice and counseling as Chapter Advisor, and was selected as Pi Kappa Phi Chapter Advisor of the Year in 1972. Emmett Dendy's service to Pi Kappa Phi extends beyond Omicron Chapter. During the construction phase of the Administrative Office in Charlotte, North Carolina, Brother Dendy contributed the wood for the interior and exterior of the building. Truly deserving of Pi Kappa Phi's top award, Dendy becomes the 15th Mr. Pi Kappa Phi in the history of the fraternity.
