Students from Pi Kapp Chapters all over the Midwest converged upon Purdue University and the Omega Chapter house for the Area IV Conclave on January 28-30, 1983. One of several Pi Kappa Phi Conclaves held during the winter and spring, students meet to develop leadership, recruitment, member education and other fraternity related skills. Pi Kappa Phi is currently divided into ten regions, with each having a special leadership conclave each year.

Wings, wheels, and Mobile deals

presents The State of the Fraternity Address. Delegates to the 39th Supreme Chapter will consider some extremely important proposed changes including a proposed restructure of the organization of Pi Kappa Phi, changes to the Constitution, Supreme Laws, and the Ritual of Initiation. Student delegates will be assigned to various committees and alumni will be asked to serve and participate actively in the committee meetings.

It's off the races on Monday evening as Mobile Greyhoud Park prepares to host Pi Kappa Phi. We are told our group is the largest convention ever to utilize the facilities. The main dining room, which overlooks the races, will be reserved for our entire group as we enjoy one of the most scrumptious seafood platters on the Gulf Coast. Prior to the races a betting school will be conducted, if you are unfamiliar with the rules! Then get ready to call the Quinella, Exacta, Daily Double, or Win, Place, or Show tickets of your choice in the twelve evening races.

Where you will stay...the beautiful and highly rated Mobile Hilton.

Where you will play...enjoy the sun, the beaches, and many special activities.

The state of Alabama will host the 1983 National Convention of your fraternity in August of this summer. Mobile will be the host city for the four day Supreme Chapter - August 13 through 17, 1983.

The city of Mobile is an excellent town to host a meeting of the Supreme Chapter. Located in the deep South and minutes from the Gulf of Mexico, Mobile is truly Pi Kappa Phi country. A variety of fun packed activities are slated for your enjoyment.

The Supreme Chapter offers something for all . . . alumni, students, and wives. The thrill of convention politics, fellowship with Pi Kapps nationwide, the splendor and hospitality of a Southern city, and a well designed program of activities.

Almost 20 years ago Mobile hosted the 30th Spring Chapter. It has been remembered as one of our most enjoyable conventions primarily because of the people, the city, and the spectacular program of activities. It's time to renew a wonderful reputation in Mobile as Pi Kappa Phi goes South.

CONVENTION HIGHLIGHTS

Supreme Chapter will go to the dogs! That is, you will enjoy a fine dinner at the Mobile Greyhound Park and, if you dare, test your luck on the races.

Visit historic homes, see beautiful Azalea Trail Girls, and enjoy the Southern hospitality of Mobile.

You won't want to miss the first real kickoff of the convention on Saturday evening. The Gamma Phi Chapter at South Alabama will host a party to welcome the student delegates to Mobile. Alumni and wives are of course welcome.

And then on Sunday it's time to enjoy the Gulf of Mexico. Buses are scheduled for departure in the morning for a trip to Dauphin Island just south of Mobile. You will enjoy the warm sunny beaches, beautiful blue water, sailing,swimming,volleyball and lunch for all.

Then it's back to the Hilton Hotel in Mobile for a few hours of rest prior to the opening banquet on Sunday evening.

As in the past, we will prefice the opening banquet with a cocktail hour as we enjoy the jazz sound of The Excelsior Band.

Then it's dinner for 700, as the 39th Supreme Chapter is officially open.

On Monday morning it's the return of the Founders Breakfast, a gathering of all alumni attending the convention for a few minutes of reflection into the past.

This has truly been an exciting event as each alumnus has a few minutes to recall some of those cherished, unusual, horrifying or glorifying moments during undergraduate days.

The Supreme Chapter business sessions commence on Monday morning as National President, A. J. "Lonnie" Strickland

Business sessions continue in full swing on Tuesday considering the various reports from committees. In addition, the election of the National Council will take place on Tuesday afternoon.

Following the close of the business day, dinner will be on your own as final preparations are made for the Pi Kappa Phi Mardi Gras celebration. This will be a Pi Kappa Phi experience of a lifetime.

Mardi Gras is a time of mystic revelry. Mobile, contrary to belief, is the originator of Mardi Gras. The le Crew de Bienville, a local mystic society, will present the tableau, prior to the ball. The masked and costumed members will relate the heritage of Mardi Gras in its true form.

And then, the presentations of the 1983 National Rose Queen, who will lead the ball. The Rose Queen, who will be duly recognized and serenaded, will be escorted by the King of Mardi Gras . . . The Pi Kappa Phi Student of the Year.

After the close of the tableau, convention delegates, alumni and wives will enjoy the entertainment of not one, but two bands. Music to fit everyones taste.

Dates? That's also covered! All sororities at the University of S. Alabama will designate our dance as a required chapter function.

On Wednesday, the final business sessions of the convention will be concluded.

Lunch will then be served prior to the close of the convention.

Many of you may be interested in the post-convention trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama, where we will enjoy deep sea fishing, sailing, golf, tennis and much more. Accomodations are provided by Beach Front Condominiums at a very reasonable rate. (See elsewhere in this issue for more details.)

Make plans to be a part of this spectacular event as alumni and students from Oregon to Maine, and south to Florida gather for four days of fun, fellowship and sunshine. And get ready for a good ole Southern Pi Kapp welcome.

Special Note to the Ladies: Bring clothes for various occasions; comfortable walking shoes, casual clothes for homes tour, bathing suits for the trip to Dauphin Island, golf clubs or tennis racket and evening clothes for the Mardi Gras Ball. PHILADELPHIA ALUMNI! Recent charterings of several new Pi Kapp Chapters in the Greater Philadelphia area has sparked renewed alumni interest in the fraternity.

Successful new chapters at LaSalle and Villanova have led the recent expansion and a colonization effort is underway at St. Joseph's. Of course, Pi Kappa Phi is not new to Philadelphia as the Alpha Upsilon Chapter at Drexel celebrates it's 50th anniversary this year.

To further promote this expanding spirit of Pi Kappa Phi, the Greater Philadelphia Alumni Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi has been formed. We need all interested alumni to participate and to help make this chapter representative of all brothers in the area.

After eight long months without a chapter house, Alpha Chapter is proud to announce the purchase of a new home.

The house, built in 1854, is a three story Charleston styled home, located at 92 Wentworth St., in the heart of the city. We feel it is destined to be the largest and best fraternity house on campus. Minor renovations have begun and the planned opening is for midsummer.

We thank alumni Robert Marlowe and William Storen for diligently working to obtain a house for our chapter.

Twelve men were initiated this pring and we pledged nine more during Rush. With this initiation Alpha has gTown to a total of 676.

Our strong growth over the past year and a half, as well as our continuing improvements, are largely due to the efforts of our Chapter Advisor, Bitty Lempesis, since he has taken the position Alpha Chapter has seen nothing but successful results.

BETA Presbyterian College Chartered March 16, 1907 The five Beta brothers who attended Pi Kopp College came back to school with many great ideas for the chapter. Everyone is exceedingly proud of the Houser Award, (most improved chapter). We had a great fall Rush and garnered over 20 new pledges. Also, in the fall the house got many much-needed additions, including a new juke box, a refrigerator, a new TV and furniture for the alumni room.

The house is in great shape now, and we thank the alumni for all their help.

The 76th Roseball will be held March 26, 1983, in Charleston, SC. Our new Rose Queen is Louise Duffie, a junior at PC and the President of the Little Sister Organization.

GAMMA University of California Chartered January 11, 1909 On November 13, Gamma Chapter celebrated the winning of Pi Kappa Phi's first Founders Award at its 74th Founders Day. National President, Dr. Strickland and his family flew out to attend the festivities and to present the Founders Award. In addition, each member was given a solid brass Pi Kapp key ring in recognition of his achievements. The awards banquet and dance were held at His Lordships Restaurant, overlooking the San Francisco Bay and providing a perfect setting for recapping the past and setting sights for the future.

Tom Sayre also visited Gamma for the first time, and his charismatic presentation of the PUSH program gave Gamma the "Push" they needed in this area of fraternity. We plan to execute a Push-a-Thon to the state capital this spring, and have already enlisted the support of two state politicians. Tom's presentation to the Chapter was covered by the campus newspaper, giving the Greek system some much needed positive publiciity.

"Club Pi Kappa Phi" is undergoing further modifications to make college life a bit more bearable. Our Alumni awarded us $1,000 cash for winning the Founders Award, and we're using these funds to let our pledges construct a 5 x 6' sauna and shower next to our jacuzzi/ weightroom,

Once again Lambda chapter had a successful fall Rush, pledging 18 men. The brothers enjoyed the Georgia Bulldogs unprecendented third straight SEC championship and undefeated regular season. Perhaps the Dogs excellence inspired the Lambda intramural football team as we were narrowly defeated in the league championship.

We also finished second in swimming, while winning the men's singles tennis championship.

Fall quarter's end saw Lambda ranked number one in intramurals.

On November 1, we held a "Gator Hater" party in preparation for the Florida game.

The proceeds from this event constituted our contribution to our national philanthropy, PUSH, for fall quarter. This year's homecoming banquet featured National President, Lonnie Strickland as our guest speaker. We honored Leroy Langston as Most Outstandin Alumnus of the Year, and Brother Alan Dasher as the Most Outstanding Undergraduate Brother.

Continuing this years efforts to raise money for PUSH, our chapter is involved in numerous fund raisers including; corporate solicitations, alumni requests, and the major fund raiser an upcoming road block in March or April. With the enthusiasm shown thus far, our chapter sees no problem in meeting its goal of one thousand dollars.

This past fall, we were happy to see a renewal of good alumni relations. This was apparent when many alumni participated in active support of the Chapter. For example, a reunion of the Brothers of classes '55 through '59 made the victory celebration of a home football game a memorable one. We hope to see more of this support.

Another very important aspect of fraternity life is, of course, grades. Our scholarship committee last fall was faced with a big problem; our chapter had the lowest grades of any fraternity at NCSU. After making changes and stressing good grades, Tau Chapter came from the bottom and is presently 5th among all fraternities at State. We will continue'our improvement of grades this and every semester and hope to soon be at the top.

The most recent event at Tau Chapter was the visit of our Executive Director, Durward Owen. This provided a good opportunity to show how we, as a fraternity, have improved not only in grades and alumni relations, but overall attitudes as well.

Chartered May 5, 1916 Chartered May 19, 1921 No Report Submitted, OMICRON University of Alabama Chartered April 17, 1917 Omicron has continued to excell in the winning fashion It has established at the University of Alabama since its founding. Participation in Homecoming festivities, intramural sports and a campus wide band party has kept Pi Kappa Phi a well respected name at the Capstone. The brotherhood of the chapter has converged even more by the initiation of thirty one new members and attending a chapter retreat at Oak Mountain State Park near Birmingham. We have invited fellowship nationally by hosting an Area Conclave during the month of February, and look forward to a strong repro'sensation at the Supreme Chapter in Mobile.

Omicron is proud of its performance during the '82-83 year and promises to continue this demonstration of excellence in the future.

It is with great sorrow and regret that Upsilon Chapter announces the passing of its first initiate, leer T. Almberg. Mike, as he was affectionately named, remained active in the fraternity well into his seventies, he will be missed as a brother; but his inspiration to us all will continue.

We initiated three new brothers this fall and already have six pledges for the spring semester.

We have set high goals for ourselves in this respect, but feel that if we all pull together, our goals can be realized.

Many events are already in the planning to raise funds for Project PUSH in the spring. We have already raised $100, and our goal is to contribute $1,000 to this worthy cause.

Finally, we made several improvements in the chapter house in the fall. A wooden post fence was put up around the front lawn, and outdoor lighting was installed. All in all, Upsilon is gearing up to have one of the best semesters ever in the spring, and we cordially invite all brothers, active or alumni, to share in our success.

Founders Day was well attended by many alumni. A Champagne Brunch was served with an awards presentation. Rick Gann was awarded Outstanding Alumnus for Fall of 1982.

A Moms and Dads Association has been started. Several projects are under way to im• prove the house including, new carpet, furniture, draperies and kitchen supplies.

Numerous other events are coming up during this spring semester. Sooner Scandles, which is a talent night for all U. of Oklahoma students, is April 16. Rose Ball and several brunches and dinners for our alumni are to be held throughout the semester.

OMEGA Purdue University Chartered November 24, 1922 The biggest change this fall for Omega Chapter house came in the way of new energy efficiency thermo-pane windows. Besides saving money on our heating bills, the new windows also improved the outward appearance of the house. Many thanks to John McDonald and the rest of the Housing Corporation for these improvements. In addition to the thermo-panes, our kitchen also received a new oven and fryer which was warmly received by our happy cook.

Omega hopes to raise over $3,000 this year for PUSH. We collected over $2,200 last spring and took first place for the second time in a row in area IV. We got off to a good start again with a Carnation Sale, raising over $370 this past September. With the same enthusiasm this spring, we shall meet our goal.

Due to our tremedous athletic ability and true grit, we brought home the trophy in the Greek Olympic Games last fall. Our sheet sign committee also took their share of the spoils last fall by taking two awards in all campus competitions.

A big Omega thanks for those who attended our Homecoming celebration. We sincerely hope you all had an enjoyable time at the festivities. Please fell free to stop by anytime, our door is always open.

ALPHA ALPHA Mercer University

ALPHA EPSILON University of Florida Chartered February 23, 1924 Alpha Epsilon finished 1982 in as fine a fashion as it began it. With over $35,000 of renovations to the AE House completed, thanks to many of our thoughtful alumni, we started the fall with an outstanding Rush effort. Because of that Rush we are now preparing to initiate 26 associate members. Our '81-82 finish as third academically among all fraternities on campus, our success in sports, and our history of campus leaders all helped in attracting a fantastic group of pledges.

Another highlight of the fall was, of course, Homecoming, where George Coulter was named as the newest initate into the Alpha Epsilon Hall of Fame. Pete Barr was named Mr. Alpha Epsilon for his personal contributions of time and resources to our fraternity. With a fine turnout, Homecoming was a great opportunity for us to recognize many of our outstanding alumni.

Several brothers received recognition of their leadership on campus this fall. Past Archon, Skip Dvornik, was inducted into the University of Florida Hall of Fame, while Bill Keyes and Mark Dvornik were initiated into the prestigious leader-ship honorary, Florida Blue Key. Other loaders on campus include two student senators, Greg Bauer and Jeff Shimer; three college council members, Eric Kovar, Scott Hamilton and Jim Greene; Supervisor of Student Government Elections, Bill Keyes and three Initiates into Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honorary, Alfredo Hernandez, Robert Harrison and Tom Cunningham.

Alpha Alpha Chapter pledged seventeen men during fall Rush. The new pledges and the

Chartered December 21, 1924 The Alpha Zeta Chapter started the '82-83 school year in a newly painted house. The house was painted the traditional white thus continuing the "white house" image here in Corvallis, The cost of painting the house was paid for by the Alumni Association as approved spring term '82, and it is greatly appreciated.

Formal Rush provided the house with twelve new associate members, which was above the university Rush average of ten.

The Alpha Zeta Chapter has upheld tradition and installed a bell as one of the national symbols of our Fraternity. The bell was purchased and permanently installed during the week before school started. We have initiated many uses for the bell including the "ringing in" of new associate members, Scholastically the house is doing great.

Winter term of '82 we ranked 7th of the 28 Iraternities on campus.

ALPHA ETA Samford University Chartered April 25, 1925

ZETA Wofford College Chartered April 29, 1911 A successful fall Rush pledged 13 fine young men for Zeta. The fall semester included a very successful homecoming during November with a high percentage of alumni attending, compared to years past.

The revival of the Beta Chapter (Presbyterian) Zeta football game led to a score of 24-14 with Zeta coming out on top. After a decade, this ancient rivalry has been rekindled.

House improvements are under way in the Zeta house and we look forward to continued improvement this year.

Chi Chapter is off and running to another super year. Bruce Rogers, Eddie Kertis and Ernie Frocione returned from Pi Kapp College full of good ideas for the fraternity. We had an opportunity to try out some of their ideas during fall Rush. Five young men were picked up and have been initiated into our brotherhood.

Pi Kappa Phi is also moving ahead irs academics. A section of our game room is being cleared out to make room for a library.

Chi Chapter continues to roll on the athletic field. After a disappointing loss in the football championship, we rebounded to take volleyball. The basketball team is currently 10.0. Pi Kappa Phi also finished strong in badminton and ping-pang. Presently, we enjoy a fity seven point lead in the President's Cup race. Congratulations to all those who made the All Star team in their respective sports.

We are also proud of our progress on PUSH. We have currently raised over $400. We hope to do well on our Annual PUSH Day Celebra•

Following a successful fall Rush of fourteen pledges, this spring's Rush brought in eight future Pi Kapps. These twenty two new mernbers have brought the total active members to forty five. We are working to continue this growth at Tau Chapter of North Carolina

Our new Chapter Advisor, Ronnie Williams, and our new Financial Advisor, Brad Wilson, have been helpful during the entire fall quarter.

We welcome these two prominent men and know that they will be a big help to our chapter.

Over last summer, three of our brothers were able to attend Pi Kapp College and brought back much helpful information. They found Pi Kapp College to be all it was cracked up to be and much more II Alpha Alpha's lodge will soon have a new plaque hanging in it. It is the Bob Bennet Plaque to honor any alumni who donated $100 or more. The present brothers of Alpha Alpha want to honor Mr. Bennet for his generosity to the Chapter.

ALPHA GAMMA University of Oklahoma Chartered May 26, 1923 The Alpha Gamma Chapter has a new ed

Alpha Eta's first post-Rush activity this year was a Chapter retreat held Oct. 1 and 2. The retreat was led by National Chaplain, Dr. Wayne Buffington, who spoke to the brothers and pledges concerning various phases of fraternity life, including PUSH, pledge education, and ritual activities.

Our house has received much needed improvements this summer and we would like to thank our Housing Corporation and Pi Kappa Phi Properties, Inc. for funding these projects.

Thanks to Alumni support, Alpha Eta is growing and improving.

ALPHA THETA Michigan State University Chartered May 9, 1925 Alpha Theta Chapter at Michigan State is looking good for '83. Before winter term commenced our house took on an extensive renovation project, many of the brothers stayed in the house over Christmas break to take part in this effort. Thanks to our Building Corporation; anything that needed to be painted, cleaned, replaced or rebuilt was funded by them.

This year's retreat brought about a tremendous cohesiveness among the brothers like we have never seen before. We solved a lot of concerns of the House and set new goals and objectives, not only for the house, but for ourselves

PAGE 4 as well. The effects of retreat are lasting because the innovation, determination and optimism is still very much alive in the House.

Also attending the event were two alumni; our Chapter Advisor, Ford Woodard, and Building Corporation Secretary, Tom Ellis. In any house a good retreat needs to be well organized and thanks to Frank Taylor's organizational skills, Winter Term Retreat 1983 was a big success.

Numerous events are going on this term.

One was our Annual Snowball Term Party which was organized by Historian, Jonathon Kennedy. We look forward to this event because there is a basketball game between the actives and the alumni, followed by a preparty dinner, and then a dance. Fundraisers pertaining to project PUSH were; a comedy film festival and a Valentines Day rose sale.

These were new events and thanks to the efforts of PUSH Director, Mike Dunn and the brothers we are well on our way in achieving our goal. Also, on May 18 and 19 we will be hosting our 1st Annual Push-a-Thon. The wheel chairs will be pushed for 50 straight hours on Michigan State's campus. Stroh's Brewing Co. will be a sponsor for this event.

Alpha Mu has spent considerable time and alumni money on physical plant repair, both inside and outside the house. Such changes include new curtains, new fire door, outdoor planter beds, preserving exterior wood on the house and also extensive bathroom repairs.

Solomon was named this year's Mr. Alpha Tau. Herman and our Chapter Advisor, Prof. Kenneth Miller, provided much generous help in restoring a 90 year old mural to the living room ceiling.

ALPHA UPSILON Drexel University Chartered May 20, 1933

ALPHA XI Polytechnic Institue of New York Chartered November 28, 1928 Alpha Xi is making slow but steady progress towards it's goal of a house full of members.

We are still No. 1 in studies and No. 2 in membership of fraternities on campus.

Alpha Xi has completed renovations on the roof and basement of the house, the remaining projects for this year are completion of the insulation program and installation of a new double shower on the third floor, Our house

The biggest concern of the brother's is in making the chapter house a comfortable and clean place to live. New pride in the chapter has helped with improvements which include; new tile for the 3rd floor shower, the laundry ream has been updated, a new bathroom in the basement and landscaping.

Currently we have 77 brothers and 16 pledges. Our major bortherhood event is our show scheduled for May 7, which benefits both PUSH and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Alumni and the undergraduates of Alpha Upsilon have planned a 50th anniversary celebration held on May 21 and 22.

The greatest emphasis was placed on Rush and Project PUSH. With these new ideas, we were able to more than double the amount of associate members we had last year. Project PUSH was, of course, not new to us but the enthusiasm which 100% of the Brothers and many alumni interjected this year was due to PUSH Chairman, Paul Heller, who attended Pi Kapp College. The chapter made a copy of the PUSH slide show and presented it to our parents, and to some organizations in order to get contributions. A "basket of cheer" was raffled and a check for $500 has already been sent out to PUSH, we expect to send another $500 soon.

Beta Alpha Chapter did leave time for other activities such as, winning the IFC football championship and we are currently looking forward to defending our I FC basketball championship. Despite all of this, Beta Alpha managed to place over 50% of the Brotherhood on the Dean's List this semester.

BETA BETA Florida Southern College Chartered October 16, 1948 The Brothers of Beta Beta are happy to announce the 35th Anniversary of our chartering.

Beta Beta has been working hard to improve our chapter and our house in every way. The chapter undertook many fund raising projects, and already this year, we have tripled our last year's donations to PUSH, we are now saving to refurnish our house.

This semester our Spring Rose Ball is to be held in Daytona Beach, Florida. We are looking forward to seeing many alumni there.

Beta Beta is going to continue its drive towards excellence on the Florida Southern Campus; we are looking towards being on top scholastically, and are very close to the All Sports honors among fraternities on campus.

Congratulations to Brothers, Brad Cluxton and Scott Brockman for their induction into the Greek Hall of Fame,and to Vince Wyatt, newly elected President of Delta Sigma Pi.

The school year thus far has resulted in a vast improvement for the Beta Delta Chapter, both on campus and in spirit. We hope to continue improving throughout the rest of the year.

BETA EPSILON University of Missouri Chartered May 8, 1949 For thirty years John Wagaman, Jr., has been the lifeblood of Beta Epsilon. He has been the connection between the "old house "of the '50s and the "new house" of the '80s. For thirty years John has also been a pledge, that is, until November 5, when Big John and six other men were initiated; Beta Epsilon has only begun to repay him for the fraternal loyalty and love shriwn for the past thirty years.

Along with the seven new initiates who entered Beta Epsilon in November, twelve more men will be initiated January 14th. These nineteen new initiates will bring Beta Epsilon closer to it's goal of twenty five new brothers, and hopefully surpass it, by the end of this school year.

Another goal that Beta Epsilon will exceed is it's $1,000 PUSH goal. Already Missouri has seen two PUSH toll-bridges (patrons to Mizzou football games pass over the bridge and donate change to PUSH), and a "Three Stooges" film festival. Both these projects are fast becoming traditions students at the University of Missouri/Columbia look forward to each year.

In our fifth year, the Pi Kapp soccer tournament, this spring, will be the cap to a successful PUSH year for the men of Beta Epsilon.

Another project that the men of Beta Epsilon are undertaking is a complete plan to reunite the "old house" with the "new house." Alumni will provide as with updated information, on biography sheets being sent out, we will use this in upcoming alumni newsletters.

BETA ETA Florida State Chartered February 18, 1950

BETA GAMMA University of Louisville Delegates to the Area III (Georgia-Florida) Conclave take a break from their busy day. This outstanding conclave was held February 11-13, 1983 and included several National Council members and other special speakers. Appreciation goes to Area Governor, Ron deValinger for his excellent planning of this conclave.

To further our PUSH goals, two brothers in the house are planning to set sail across the Atlantic to England in July of 1984. They have been working on their dream for some time and hopefully, with a lot of backing from our members and various businesses, their dream will come true. The proceeds they collect will be donated to Project PUSH. There is a great future for the Alpha Theta Chapter and we are building upon it. With the goals we have set for the house and ourselves, weary creating a winning team.

ALPHA IOTA Auburn University Chartered October 2, 1926 This past fall quarter proved to be a fantastic quarter for Alpha Iota. Leading off the quarter we were 8th on campus in scholarship and we had a successful fall Rush, pledging 25 fine men. Many of our new initiates have extra-curricular activities such as, SGU, ROTC and varsity sports.

A highlight of fall, the party "Showboat," was co-sponsored by Delta Delta Delta Sorority, and with proceeds from this party Alpha Iota reached it's goal of $1,000 for PUSH and earned the Presidents Club Award.

Other highlights of the quarter were the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando, FL. and many of our brothers attended the game.

Alpha Iota is currently in first place for the Intramural All-Sports trophy. Much of this is due to our football team that went to the playoffs.

One of our prospects this quarter is to remodel the foyer. Funds for this are being provided by Mr. & Mrs. W.A. Percy, in memory of their son, and our brother, Andy who was killed this past summer. Andy was a fine brother and will always be remembered by us.

ALPHA LAMBDA University of Mississippi

The Alpha Lambda Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi is growing at a steady rate. During formal Rush the chapter picked up five pledges and recently added three more to the list bringing our total membership to 26. Out goal for this semester is to have 40 members.

We are presently renting a house next to the campus in which 6 brothers live. The house is a two story English Tudor, surrounded by ten acres of land, and is ideal for many activities of the fraternity.

Activities planned for this semester include a PUSH project for October 2, and we are active in intramural sports on campus.

Chartered May 25, 1929 No report submitted ALPHA RHO West Virginia University Chartered May 16, 1930 The purchase of Alpha Rho's first house has been a great driving force behind the brothers and has developed a greater sense of unity, The house is shaping up nicely, and with the aid of several very successful fundraisers, more improvements are in the works.

This semester, as in the past, our attention is turned to PUSH. The brothers are looking forward to a very successful Push-A-Thon like the one held last year, and a very productive year in all aspects.

Last school year, Alpha Phi raised over 51,000 for Project PUSH by sponsoring a wheelchair Push-a-Thon around campus and this entitled us to the President's Award, which we received at Pi Kapp College.

In inter-fraternity competition, we placed 5th in Greek Week and 6th in pagaent events.

The 1982-83 fall semester started on a high note with the recruitment of 21 associate members, this was the largest number of associate members of all the fraternities on campus.

Founder's Day was celebrated at the Americana Hotel in downtown Chicago. The InterFraternity Sing event gave the chapter the opportunity to show off its singing ability together. We placed fourth in the event and next year we intend to place first.

Although our membership has decreased, we have all been busy this fall Rush and learned a lot in order to be better prepared for the spring.

Tailgate parties were held at all of the University of Louisville football games. We raised nearly $200 for Project PUSH by soliciting donations at the Greek Street Fair. We also sold popcorn every day during Greek Week.

These events gave us much more visibility on campus.

Before the temperature dropped, we played another Actives vs. Alumni Softball Game. The Actives had some sympathy during the game and allowed the Alums to win. The Alums should not expect this type of treatment in future games.

We initiated a "Breakfast for a Sorority on Saturday Morning," October 2, 1982. So far we have served Kappa Delta arid Delta Zeta, both of which were big successes. This program is unusual for U of L and has earned us quite a bit of recognition.

Highlighting the fall semester for Beta Eta was the initiation of eighteen new members into Pi Kappa Phi, bringing the total membership to twenty brothers and 2 pledges. The only two brothers prior to initiation were transfers as the chapter underwent re-colonization at the beginning of the semester. More than twenty brothers from Alpha Epsilon at the University of Florida in Gainesville came to Tallahassee to initiate the men. Bet Eta would like to extend a sincere thank you to these brothers, (even though the Gators beat the Seminoles this year on the football field).

Homecoming at Florida State was a definite success, Brother Alan Sunberg, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, held a reception at his home the night before the game with active brothers, alumni, pledges, and their dates attending. The day of the big football game, Beta Eta had its own little competition on the football field with the alumni waging war on the actives. The alumni miraculously pulled the game out — by several touchdowns.

The alumni sponsored a post-game party/ Rush function featuring one of Tallahassee's well known bands. When the gala events were concluded, the chapter had raised enough money to furnish the dining room, and to continue restorations on the house. Two Pi Kappa Phi chapter consultants came for a visit and helped us get organized for a good Rush. They're inspiration helped us have the best winter quarter Rush in years with 12 men pledged.

Among our recent highlights are; teaming with Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority for a wonderful performance in the university wide All-Sing '83, Also, our outstanding basketball team won the division championship and we wound up the quarter by placing third overall in the Delta Gamma's Annual Anchor Splash, which is a virtual "anything goes" competition among all fraternities on campus.

In sight for spring quarter is the annual roadblock for Project PUSH. This event not only yields a good financial outcome but spreads our name throughout the campus and in the city as well. This year's Rose Ball was held in Atlanta, Georgia, in April.

We at Alpha Sigma have been working extra hard to improve our chapter in size, scholastics, popularity and quality of membership. The importance of our alumni can't be stressed enough in order to achieve these goals, Alpha Sigma at the University of Tennessee has had rewarding winter and spring quarters because we all are working together.

Alpha Mu has been very active through the spring and fall of 1982. Last spring we won first place in the Alpha Chi Omega Push-UpAthon and third place overall in Greek Week 1982. In addition, we had a strong showing in Homecoming 1982.

Homecoming saw 75 alumni return to have a super weekend watching Penn State football, and enjoying parties in their honor.

Huge success in the areas of Rush and pledging has kept the brotherhood active and psyched. Since spring, Alpha Mu has 18 new brothers, and 15 pledges for winter term.

Our reputation as one of the best houses at Penn State is well known arid still growing, furthermore, our strength has shown again with Alpha Mu receiving Master Chapter Award last summer.

A new script, special effects and fundraising techniques brought in an unprecendented $2,200, a far cry from the $700 raised just two years before.

This year's Founders Day Celebration, December 4, was as successful as ever with many enthusiastic alumni returning to the "Castle." Several events highlighted the afternoon. This fall for Alpha Psi has been filled with campus involvement. In addition to success in a host of intermural activities, we enjoyed, along with our co-sponsors Kappa Alpha Theta, 4th place honors in Delta Gamma's Anchor Splash, a campus wide philanthropy project.

We participated in the all Greek Classic events, a week of inter-Greek competition organized by IFC and Panhel.

One of the highlights of the semester was the Alumni Banquet Dinner held on Oct 9, to commemorate Alpha Psi's 35th anniversary. It is always a pleasure to see so many alumni still feel attached and involved in the undergraduate chapter. The semester ended with our Annual Rose Ball Dance.

Sometime in April, we will hold our annual PUSH project. This year's project is a 50 hour wheelchair Push-A-Thon/Can Drive.

Finally, the Pi Kapp bike team is already rolling along the road to a successful Little 500 race, we hope to see you there!

Chartered April 23, 1949 Beta Delta's new council is looking forward to a very productive semester. Saturday, the 15th of January, twelve new brothers were inBated arid we are expecting much input from them. Rush is also under way with three pledges signed prior to the official starting date.

The Projects Committee is also going strong with a 10 kilometer/5 kilometer Fun Run to raise money for PUSH planned for the end of March. Plans for the Drake Relays Parade are under way, we hope to enter another prize winning float. Our Annual Trick or Treating for the Blind was again a big success, raising over $400 in donations.

Second semester is the time for intermural basketball season. It looks to be a promising season with many players returning from last year's All Greek team. Prior to basketball was floor hockey which gave us another All University championship. The wrestling tournament also went well with President, Mike Kovalsky, earning a third consecutive All University title in the heavy weight division.

One of our own alumnus has agreed to be our new Faculty Advisor, and our GPA ranking is improving among all the fraternities on campus. The study table system is being organized

Our continuous Rush is still going on, but now our main energies are being focused toward the beginning of spring semester. The brothers are hoping to double the current membership during the next semester.

BETA IOTA University of Toledo Chartered December 8, 1951 Beta Iota Chapter has enjoyed a very productive fall quarter, enthusiasm is a major asset of our ten new members. Their leadership ability and eagerness are sure to improve Beta Iota.

The chapter is proud to maintain the highest scholastic average on campus and we are working hard throughout the entire year on Rush in order to increase chapter size.

On Veteran's Day we held the third annual Skate-a-Thon for Project PUSH. This six hour event proved, once again, to be very successful.

Also, we are planning a Monte Carlo Night for PUSH in the spring and hope to raise $1,000 for our national philanthropy project.

Our main goals for this year include starting long range plans for obtaining a house.

Among the recent accomplishments at Beta Kappa Chapter was the successful completion of our annual philanthropy, "Feed the Children."

Thanks to lots of support from the fraternities and sororities on campus over 10,000 cans of food were collected and donated to the St. Vin. cent dePaul Society.

In athletics, the brothers of Beta Kappa are carrying on the winning tradition of the chapter.

We captured third place in volleyball, and are once again headed for the playoffs in basket. ball.

In the planning stage at this time is this year's PUSH project. We are currently exchanging ideas with the brothers of Lambda Chapter at Georgia, there is a strong possibility that we will get together with them for a joint effort to.

We anticipate another great ward PUSH.

On August 1, we held a summer retreat in which all the brothers attended. We discussed new ideas for Rush, and set our goals for the following year which are; initiate 30 new brothers, raise $6,000 for the chapter, raise $2,000 for Project PUSH, and win the prestigious Founders Award. With the hard work of our brothers, there is no question that these goals will be accomplished.

This summer eight members of Beta Phi attended Pi Kapp College. Tho brothers of Beta Phi Chapter left Pi Kapp College very proud after winning the Presidents Club and Champion Master Chapter for two consecutive years. We were also very proud of our Chapter Advisor, Ellis Banks, who was recognized as Chapter Advisor of the Year.

Through a Rush program, which pushed the Greek system instead of alcohol, Beta Phi assoc. iated 19 new members. At the end of the semester we initiated 17 of the best educated and well prepared brothers ever to enter our chapter.

The brothers have been raising money for Project PUSH through car washes, solicitations in front of the local ABC stores, and a flea market. We are well on our way to reaching our goal for the year. Beta Phi Chapter will soon be a member of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce which will aid us in reaching many of our future goals for Project PUSH. Financially, our chapter has never been better. After burning a $4,500 bank note last semester, we now have a surplus in excess of $5,000.

The Pi Kapps of East Carolina are also working on the athletic field. After last year's winning of the Chancellors Cup, an award given each year to the fraternity which exhibits over. all excellence in intramural sports, we are well on our way to winning "The Cup" for a second year in a row. We have dominated on the intramural field by winning first or second place in every sport this semester.

Beta Phi is very proud to announce the chartering of our alumni chapter. This accomplishment was due to the hard work of Dan Rag, Jim Butt, John Burt, and Ellis Banks, just to name a few. We owe much of our recent success to the financial and moral support of our alumni. Letters of encouragement are received at the house on a regular bases, to have such active alumni has been a great morale booster for the chapter.

BETA LAMBDA University of Tampa Chartered April 23, 1955 This year the Beta Lambda Chapter had the honor of having a new Chapter Advisor appointed, Don Orr. Don was initiated into the Gamma Nu Chapter in 1972, and has been a great asset in guiding the brothers towards our goals.

The brothers of Beta Lambda would also like to thank Ron deValinger and the Alpha Alpha Chapter for an enjoyable and most informative weeliend "at the Area III Conclave in February. As a result, the brothers have set many goals for our chapter and the community at large. One contribution has been that all proceeds from our campus wide event will be donated to Project PUSH. Another event which took place in February was the Tampa University Homecoming and Gasparilla Weekend. The brothers were pleased to see those alumni who came to visit, and thank them for their support. Once again in our annual Alumni vs Brothers Basketball Game the alumni defeated us 60 - 30. Wait til next year guysl The Bete Lambda Chapter has been at the University of Tampa since 1955, 28 years strong. During the past seven years, brothers from the Beta Lambda Chapter have held the presidency position of the local Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC) on campus. For Homecoming, Beta Mu took first place in the Division B Float Competition, bringing the chapter much recognition, and $250.

Beta Mu has raised in excess of $1,200 so far for Project PUSH, and we had a very fine Founder's Day Celebration where Steve Miller, Area Governor, delivered the key note speech.

BETA TAU Valdosta State College Chartered January 17, 1959 Fall quarter was really exciting for Beta Tau. There were new pledges to associate with and this year was the first year of football at Valdosta State College. Also, Beta Tau Chapter was honored by getting to help Valdosta's chapter of the American Diabetes Association with its Annual Bike-a•Thon this past October.

The course for the Bike.a.Thon was directed through downtown Valdosta and the first checkpoint for the event was Beta Tau's front yard.

Robert Scholer, past Chaplain for the Beta Tau Chapter, participated in the annual fundraiser representing Pi Kappa Phi and was the biggest money maker, collecting pledges of over $800.

Beta Tau would like to thank the Women's Club of Valdosta for their assistance in running the checkpoints for the race. The brothers, pledges, little sisters and sponsors of Beta Tau Chapter enjoyed working for this important cause immensely.

Our annual brother-pledge campout turned out to be a real success. We feel this campout helps to strengthen relationships between our pledges and our brotherhood.

Winter quarter is always a big time for Beta Tau, this is the quarter that we hold our Miss VSC Pageant. The area's conclave will also take place soon and Beta Tau is looking forward to this because meeting Pi Kapp's from other colleges is always exciting.

BETA UPSILON University of Virginia Chartered May 6, 1961 Beta Upsilon Chapter at the University of Virginia continues to uphold it's fraternal traditions in all aspects of "The U." Having had one of our most successful years in respect to refrigerator rentals, certain progressive members of the chapter decided that the Fratty Lodge needed an "improvement." By NEARLY a unanimous brotherhood vote, the wall seperating the living room and tube room was removed — goodbye "Old U," — welcome large activities room. Thanks for funding of the project go to M. Chapman and his refrigerator committee.

The school administration has officially cancelled Easters, but the always stellar (or lunar) N. M. Ritual is on. Nineteen now associate members eargerly await spring semester fun and will probably select Ethyl as their Rosebud at Rose Ball, unless the administration cancels that also.

The brotherhood this year has been aided by graduates in the medical business and law schools. This goes to show that, you can graduate from the college but you can not graduate from the fraternity.

GAMMA BETA Old Dominion University Chartered October 10, 1964 The brothers of Gamma Beta Chapter spent the past summer turning our new colonial mansion into a fraternity house. This included interior decorating and a complete renovation of the basement. The work in the basement accomplished two things, first it created a party room large enough to keep the rest of the house closed off during Rush parties, and by doing this we were able to keep the living area neat and in good condition.

The Gamma Beta Chapter is also proud to announce a pledge class consisting of 15 men.

Rush was seen as the most important part of fraternity life this semester and due to the hard work everybody put into it, Rush was the most successful it has been in years.

On the weekend of November 5-7, thirteen members of Pi Kappa Phi participated in the Old Dominion University Superdance for Muscular Dystrophy, These 13 people were able to bring in over $1,300 for MD and were recognized as being the top Greek organization as far as pledges per hour were concerned.

Our next major project will be to operate a booth in Norfolk's Harborfest. This project will put Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, as well as Project PUSH, into the minds of everyone that attends the festivities.

Also, Gamma Epsilon is looking towards our alumni for help in achieving higher goals.

Some of these goals include, house improvements and better alumni activity toward PUSH. A football tournament will be used this year to help raise money for Project PUSH. In intramurals this season Pi Kapp won the fraternity softball league.

GAMMA MU Belmont Abbey College Chartered April 26, 1969 At the beginning of the semester our chapter initiated a new brother, Jeff McNulla, making the number of brothers 21.

In the middle of the semester our chapter came from second place on the final day to win Greek Week. This marked the first time our chapter has won this prestigious event in four years!

The chapter also did quite well in intramural football, finishing up in third place overall, with a 4-2 record. In November Gamma Mu held a

The grade point for fall 1982 was 2.79 counting active members and pledges, this was the highest on campus. We also were the best In actives alone at 2.9 arid oai. pledges were third with a 2.27.

Our fall Rush pledged nine and initiated five. We feel they will help our chapter very much.

Homecoming for fall was the best in a long time with over 20 alumni ,present, and they showed a lot of enthusiasm for what the chapter was doing. We hope our Homecoming improved our alumni relations and look forward to hearing more from them.

We are looking forward to an even better Rush this semester. Our Raider Week will begin on March 3 till the 5th. The conclave is scheduled for March 6. Last on the agenda is our Rose Ball, it will be held sometime in April.

Starting with a goal of $150, the brothers talked with hundreds of people, asking for any spare change or dona. tions that they could spare. By the end of the day donations had almost doubled expecte. tions reaching an astounding $275.561 The very next day, the brothers followed up their success with a thank you concert in the ETSU University Center. The concert featured the ETSU Jazz Trio, members from the East Tennessee Musician's Co-op, and Beta Omega's own Tolbert Crowell and Todd Manning. Also featured were speakers from various campus organizations.

To complete the week there was a campus thank.you party at the Beta Omega Chapter House.

GAMMA ALPHA Livingston University Chartered May 2, 1964 The Gamma Alpha Chapter has been working on civic projects this quarter. We held a blood drive for the Red Cross, collected Toys for Tots during Christmas, participated in a money raising volleyball tournament for World Hunger, held a magazine drive for a county hospital, visited the elderly at the nursing home, and planted trees for Notional Arbor Week.

Future plans include another blood drive in March and painting garbage cans for the campus.

Chartered April 9, 1966 The brothers of Gamma Gamma enjoyed a successful fall quarter marked by many accomplishments; a successful Rush produced 23 pledges, we raised $150 for a local children's home and our little sisters raised a substantial amount of money for Project PUSH. Gamma Gamma pledges pushed a bed from Enterprise, Alabama to Troy, some forty miles away, in order to raise money for the local children's home, these pledges were sponsored by citizens at a certain amount of money per mile in the bed push. Our little sisters were beneficial in raising funds for Project PUSH through Christmas CARE packages sent out to local freshmen.

Athletically, Pi Kapps were outstanding for the third straight year; we were acclaimed overall campus intramural football champions, and it looks like another all sports trophy is in sight. Continuing another winning tradition, our pledges defeated arch rival Delta Chi's pledges by the score of 20-6 in an annual football game.

For the first time in eight years, Pi Kapps won the overall campus Homecoming Yard Display Competition. Another successful quarter for Gamma Gamma.

GAMMA DELTA Memphis State Chartered May 7, 1966 Gamma Delta Chapter has been struggling for several years and started out this semester witn only 14 brothers. A formal Rush party, with pizza, netted the fraternity a grand total of 16 associate members. With the size of the fraternity doubled, everything else seemed to get better. Alumni help and interest with the chapter reached it's highest level. Key alumni contributions came from Greg Gallagher, Mike Dacus, Matt Lipscomb, Henry Groves, James Surprise and Dave Everson.

One of the highlights of the semester was Homecoming. Over 30 alumni attended our activities, which included a bus ride to the game (which MSU lost to Cincinnati 16.7), this was followed by a cookout party.

While learning fraternity history arid chapter traditions, the pledge class had several projects to raise money for PUSH. A party attended by over 200 people raised in excess of $100.

The semester was capped off by a Founders Day Banquet. Guest speaker was National Secretary, Bill Finney. Bill is not only a great

An alumni relation committee was set up to inform the alumni of the events we wish them to be a part of, our plans this year included; Founders Day, this was held on December 5, Rose Ball, held on February 26, also, PUSH Week which will be going on during the end of March, and Greek Week to be held the week of April 7, 1983.

We have great plans for Project PUSH during the spring semester. The plans will include many events some of which are a 24 hour Push. a-Thon around the UNC-Wilmington campus, a penny-a.mile collection, and donations from fellow students on campus at our PUSH Booth.

Other events during our week long "Push" will be going on and we will put up a $50 challenge to the other fraternities for each event.

The biggest goal we have set is to increase our membership. Our fall and spring semester Rushes have been successful in obtaining members that strive to make this chapter of Pi Kappa Phi, on campus and all around, the best. We already have better relations with our admin. istrative staff through having various service projects for the faculty and staff. We plan to continue these in the future.

GAMMA KAPPA Georgia Southern College Chartered October 2, 1968 Recently the Georgia Southern College inter-Fraternity Council held their annual elections, we had a representative run for each office and were fortunate to win both president and vice president.

During next quarter the chapter is planning something different to raise money for PUSH. Area Governor, Ron deValenger, on one of his visits to Statesboro, proposed an activity called Push for the Roses, which involves the sororities on campus and will help the chapter raise more money. Head Football Coach, Erk Russell, will be the chairman for this year's fund raiser. Also planned is the Annual Basketball Marathon which has become a traditional yearly event on campus.

Another new program was put into motion during Founder's Day weekend. The chapter developed a Century Club to recognize alumni that support the chapter financially for various reasons, including the housing fund. For each alumni who donates $100 a gold plaque is placed in our chapter room in their name.

Gamma Kappa is proud of the fact that our brothers are becoming more involved in leadership roles on campus. Currently, Pi Kapps hold

Walk-a-Thon for the benefit of PUSH. Seventy seven people walked 18 miles from Belmont Abbey College to Our Lady of Consolation School in Charlotte, North Carolina, and donated our fraternity notebooks to the sisters who teach at the school.

GAMMA NU LaGrange College Chartered May 10, 1969 The 1982-83 school year for Gamma Na Chapter at LaGrange College was the beginning of what is turning out to be one of the best years we have had. Our numbers doubled from the previous years, and a pledge class of nine has boosted our brotherhood to the minimum chapter standards. This year we have abolished all local debt and are working toward reducing our national debt.

In spring '82, we acquired a new house which seems to have breathed new life into the chapter as a whole. Our numerous fund raisers and socials combined with our progress , our overall G.P.A. has increased as well, have made us the number one fraternity on campus.

Our goal is to double our last PUSH quota amd with the addition of a few new pledges and little sisters the future of Gamma Na Chapter is indeed bright.

GAMMA XI Georgia Southwestern College Chartered May 17, 1968 Thanks to the constant hard work and dedication of our Alumni Advisor, Sparky Reeves, Faculty Advisor and Area Governor, Ronnie J. deValinger, Chapter Advisor, Ben Hamrick and Financial Advisor, Jimmy Pond, Gamma Xi continues to grow in all directions. For the third straight year our brothers, pledges and little sisters have participated in the Americus Sumter County Hospital Disaster Drill. This project allows Pi Kapps to serve as staged victims of a disaster, thus allowing the hospital to test emergency preparedness.

Founders Day '82 was great! The alumni participation was good--well maybe too good.

The alumni defeated the undergraduates (again) in the Annual Blood Bowl Football Game.

PAGE 6 April marks the beginning of the third annual Push for the Roses campaign. Push for the Roses is our biggest PUSH fundraising event of the year. The sororities compete against each other to raise the most money for PUSH. The winning sorority is announced at our Push Party and the winner receives a dozen red roses and our four foot high trophy.

Mark your calender now for Rose Ball '83 to be held on the weekend of May 13-15, in Americus, Georgia. The banquet will be held at noon on Saturday May 15th featuring our guest speaker, Executive Secretary, Durward Owen.

We would like to pay special thanks to alumnus J. W. Scott for his time, effort, and the use of his tools, during this major project.

Although a new Rush system was put into effect at JSU this fall, Delta Epsilon has responded with one of the sharpest pledge classes in

Twenty dollars from each housebill goes into a special fund earmarked for purchasing a new house.

Gamma Upsilon also has a new housemother who is one of the sweetest women on earth.

Last semester's PUSH project went extremely well. 0-State Pi Kappa pushed a wheelchair from Hissom Children's Home in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, to our house inn Stillwater — a distance of over 50 miles. Through this project over $1,000 was raised, and donated to PUSH. Academically, socially, spiritually, and athletically, Gamma Upsilon has become firmly established on the OSU campus and is gaining the respect of the other houses. After recolonizing a year ago, the Delta Sigma Chapter is making great strides. Our PUSH project last fall was very successful in raising over $1,200. We achieved this goal through various events such as, an arm wrestling tournament, a wheel chair Push-a-Thon, and by sponsoring a movie on Halloween. Our contribution to PUSH doubles last year's contribution of $600. our chapter has grown Membership in steadily to 27 brothers since our recolonization

Chartered March 21, 1970 Membership is looking up. Our chapter expects to exceed minimum requirements on recruitment as on-campus activities help bring us in contact with new recruits, including freshmen on academic scholarships. We hope to assure our fifth straight year as the top academic fraternity on campus and, hopefully, the intr. murals champions.

Gamma Sigma has been involved in various on and off campus activities during this '82-83 school year. During the summer, some of the alumni advised the chapter on various matters, helping us with our fall Rush. As a result of their advice, we received six pledges with strong possibilities for more to come. The alumni also began the formation of an alumni chapter at Gamma Sigma. Other activities included Greek Week activities, and our chapter won the Bath House Race .

Off campus we have made a good showing also. We are involved in helpings Senior Citizens Center by doing general maintenance and yard work, the chapter received recognition in the local news for its efforts there. We are also proud to help the Savannah Symphony for the second year with their concerts.

Gamma Sigma was the recipient of the Armstrong State College Fraternity Scholarship Award, which is granted to the national fraternity with the highest overage grade point. This is the fourth consecutive year we have won this award.

This semester has been extremely successful for the Gamma Rho Chapter. Our school placed a deferred Rush on fraternities, limiting us to pledging only sophomores, juniors and seniors. However, we used this to our benefit initiating five men fall semester, as compared to other fraternities pledging none, and have a recruitment goal of 25 for the spring semester.

Our Annual Zeus Day football game had the biggest turn out of alumni in years. After the game we had a spaghetti supper at the house.

We are expecting Founders Day/Parents Day to be the best ever. Then, in February the Alumni Chapter is planning to have a "Remember TriZeta Weekend" to celebrate the 13th birthday of Gamma Rho. With the help of Bob Drinkard, an alumni, we were able to have a desk calendar printed and given to the students at Lander, every advertisement on the calendar was sold and was a successfull fund raiser ($500).

Rush is coming up winter quarter and all the brothers are excited and looking forward to a great time as we continue to increase our num numbers. Our tentative plans for Rose Ball will be to hold it at Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.

In intramural sports this fall, the chapter did very well. Our football team placed second, and the volleyball team finished third, we are currently in second place in winning the All Sports Trophy.

One of our major accomplishments this semester has been the winning of the Miller Drive. Brothers Steve Capizzi and John Bromtier headed the project that won $1,500, which will be used to absorb the cost of Rose Ball, Delta Epsilon is also proud of the fact that we have donated $1,000 to the Housing Fund this semester alone. We would like to challenge our alumni to do the same and match this figure. Let's get the ball rolling for bigger and better things for our rapidly growing chapter!

Chartered March 18, 1972 One of the new projects done during the fall semester by Delta Gamma was to work at the concession stands during UNO home football games. All of the money raised goes towards the new members initiation fees.

Community service has always been a part of Delta Gamma,and for the fifth year in a row the chapter participated in selling honey on Honey Sunday. All proceeds go to helping mentally handicapped children. This year Delta Gamma played a larger role by taking on the responsibility of organizing the other fraternities and sororities, along with some independents, into teams for the West Omaha distribution. Over $3,000 was raised.

DELTA DELTA Northeastern Missouri State Chartered April 29, 1972 The Delta Delta Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi has been thriving this school year. Many records have been broken, much more is being done to improve the chapter, and the Pi Kapp spirit is obvious everywhere.

First on the list of outstanding achievements is this year's Rush season. Through extremely beneficial parties, contact nights, rap sessions, and other activities, we took on eighteen new associate members.

Also this year, Delta Delta has put a lot of work into PUSH. Anheiser-Busch co-sponsored PUSH week with us, October 18-25. The week's activities included a Push-a-Thon, in which members of the chapter pushed a wheelchair for 100 hours straight, NMSU President, Charles McClain, began the Push-a-Thon by pushing the wheelchair for the first half hour. All in all, PUSH Week looks to be a huge success.

Our members got a surprise visit from Upsilon Chaper when a small, but lively, group showed up on September 17. The brothers of Delta Delta treated them to a party on both nights and it is doubtful that the members of Upsilon Chapter will soon forget it.

With this school year came a new committee to the chapter. Mark Hlubek is the chairman of the Scholarship Committee, which is aimed at helping bring the grades of the chapter up to par. Study nights, tutoring sessions, conferences and other methods will be included in the committee's repetoir. This too, looks like it will be a great success as our overall fraternity grade point average is already on the rise, Work on the chapter family tree is very near completion. Once all the records are in, a large display of the tree will be erected. Many brothers have put in their time to help with this massive project.

DELTA NU Western Kentucky University Chartered April 27, 1974 Delta Nu Chapter, after reorganizing last semester, has been actively involved on the campus of Western Kentucky University. The Pi Keeps, along with two residence halls, sponsored a float for Western's Homecoming Parade.

The float featured E.T. and took first place winning a cash award of $147.

Pi Kappa Phi entered November Nonsense, an annual variety show sponsored by Chi Omega Sorority and after several weeks of rehearsal the fraternity had a magnificent performance and won first place. Delta Nu's Bowling Team is presently in second place, and we have plans for entering several intramural sports events during the spring semester.

In order to improve relationships with the sororities the Pi Kapps cooked breakfast for the Kappa Delta Sorority. We hope that, in the spring, we will be able to do the same for other sororities. In addition the fraternity will be giving a red rose to each sorority on their Founder's Day. Also, on December 8, the Pi Kapps serenaded the sororities with Christmas carols.

DELTA XI University of North Alabama Chartered May 4, 1974 Delta Xi has been busy this spring semester.

We have been awarded the scond highest grade point average of all the fraternities on campus, our pledge class also received the highest GPA as well.

The brothers of Delta Tau returned to school with a determination to make Pi Kappa Phi the number one fraternity on the James Madison University campus. We feel that this goal has been achieved and we are working to remain there.

The year was started off by having the most successful Rush ever. Through a total group el• fort, we were able to bring 26 new brothers into Pi Kappa Phi, this is the largest number of new brothers ever in the history of Delta Tau and of all fraternities here at JMU. Our spring semester Rush was also outstanding as we gained an additional 17 associate members, Our congratulations go to each of these quality young men on the effort they put forward.

Our work in Project PUSH proved very successful. A Push-a-Than was held with one of the campus sororities, we have sponsored Project PUSH Nights with a local pub and deli and these are fast becoming a tradition here at JMU. In appreciation of their support our fraternity awarded the pub and deli a certificate, which is now hanging inside the deli. We set a goal of raising $1,000 for Project PUSH and have surpassed this, but are still working to go further. Coming up, we have planned a roadblock in order to get the community involved.

Other service projects done by Delta Tau have been such things as, a fraternity wide blood drive for the Rockingham Memorial Hospital, and to provide a needy family with a complete Thanksgiving dinner. Upcoming events for Delta Tau include, our annual Rose Ball and retreat.

DELTA UPSILON University of Pittsburgh Chartered February 24, 1978 Delta Upsilon's PUSH effort began with a 227 mile wheelchair push from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. We were "pushed" off by the Pennsylvania secretary of state and were received by newspaper reporters and television newspeople, our goal for PUSH is $1 000. This year we were joined in our annual PUSH by the local chapter of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, in return we hope to raise $500 for a local rehabilitation center for the sorority's philanthropy. This was a unifying experience for the brothers and was enjoyed by all.

Our chapter is relatively new at PITT (chartered 1978), but is already building on alumni relations, Some alumni have chosen to inhabit one of our apartments and are always willing to lend a hand at a Rush functjpn, on PUSH, or cheer us at a sports event. DELTA ETA Morehead State University Chartered February 10, 1973 This semester Delta Eta had two pledge classes planned, the first was for January 19.

Six associate members of the first class were initiated on February 27, after which the second class began. Our overall growth may be attributed to a more concentrated Rush prograrn which included a campus wide "Dorm Storm".

Last fall, our fifth Annual "Balloon Race" was held for PUSH. We released over 600 balloons, 100 of which were purchased by the Morehead State University football team. The purchaser of the balloon,a resident of Morehead and an employee of the university, as well as the returner of the balloon, o resident of Bedford, Pennsylvania, were awarded plaques for their participation in this project. We were assisted with the balloon race by the sisters of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority in exchange for our assistance with their philanthropy fund raiser. This, as well as our other planned PUSH fund raisers, will aid us in passing our contribution of last year.

We are presently looking into several housing options aided by our newly organized Alumni Housing Committee. All possibilities for suitable houses are being carefully considered at this time.

The annual Alumni Homecoming event of last semester saw many old friendships plus a deep feeling of brotherhood experienced by all attendees. Also, the tenth anniversary of the founding of our chapter was celebrated at a dinner held on February 10.

Delta Eta has acquired the assitance of Lt. Col., Bruce Miller, an instructor in Military Sciences and ROTC, as Chapter Advisor. He is a great asset to the chapter and we really appreciate his interest. It looks like the beginning of a great second decade for our chapter!

The newest members of the Gamma Upsilon Chapter stand out in front of their house at Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma. between the Greeks and the dormitories here at the University of North Alabama. Each group was judged in 2 categories; best popular song, and best original song. Delta Xi was awarded both first places last year also.

Delta Phi Chapter is maintaining Pi Kappa Phi's standards of excellence by pleding $600 to PUSH, contributing to Radford University's Alumni Hall, and raising financial support for various charitable organizations.

Fall quarter at Radford began with our annual Homecoming Dance. We also held a fall retreat, which was conducted at brother McCullough's house in Staunton, Virginia, and served to strengthen our chapter and increase brother-

Founder's Day was observed this fall with a church ceremony and sit down dinner. Alumnus, Franklin Swann, spoke on the founding, and encouraged attendees to excell in chapter endeavors.

Currently, Delta Phi is planning a beach week, to be held in April, for PUSH. Also, our 5th Rose Ball was scheduled for March 19, 1983 at the Mariott in Blacksburg.

DELTA CHI Kansas State University Chartered April 15, 1978 The Delta Chi Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi at Kansas State University is looking forward to celebrating its fifth anniversary during the spring Rose Ball. After 5 years we are still the youngest fraternity on the K-State campus, The chapter is making a special effort to get as many of our alumni to return for this anni• versary as possible.

For the first time since our chartering, Delta Chi participated in the K-State Homecoming festivities. The chapter, paired with Clovia 4-H house and received honorable mention on our float, which was frantically rebuilt in two hours after a violent thunderstorm, combined with high winds, had stripped it down to nothing.

On the weekend of March 25, Delta Chi will be hosting the Area VII Conclave for the second straight year. We will be welcoming 9 other chapters, and the colony from the University of Denver.

DELTA PSk University (if Texas at Arlington Chartered November 18, 1978 Delta Psi Chapter continues to grow on the UTA campus. This fall our chapter initiated 6 new members, increasing the size of our chapter to 67.

Fall 1982 also proved to be good. We were able to raise about $300. for PUSH through the sale of coupon books. Continuing on with our PUSH projects will prove to be a heavy task and, hopefully, a successful one. We are currently planning a whaelchair Push-a-Thon with our brothers at Beta Chi Chapter at East Texas State University, this will be complimented by our first racquetball tournament for PUSH, sponsored by Lite Beer from Miller. This same tournament was successfull last year in raising funds for Multiple Sclerosis.

Fall quarter saw us play in the finals in both football and volleyball, we walked away with third place in each. Fall Rush began in early July and extended through October, our most outstanding parties were; a Jungle Party, a Hawaiian Luau and an Octoberfest. Out of these parties we pledged 18 associate members, all of whom are enthusiastic about Pi Kappa Phi. We had pledge swaps with the sororities on campus and participated in Greek Week in November, improving inter•Greok relations on campus. We also participated in the school's Harvest Moon Festival again this year and sold elephant ears, for a profit for a change.

December 10, we celebrated the 78th anniversary of our fratenity with our annual Founders Day Celebration. Parents of all the brothers and pledges joined us for this event.

This winter Epsilon Delta Chapter will enjoy our third anniversary as a chapter in Pi Kappa Phi, and we will mark the occasion with our annual formal, the Rose Ball.

EPSILON EPSILON Clinch Valley College Chartered March 1, 1980 The Epsilon Epsilon Chapter began the fall semester with high spirits and enthusiasm, celebrating over two and a half years in existence here at Clinch Valley College.

Due to the hard work of our brothers PUSH was a success. Among the achievements for PUSH this year was a wheel-chair push for the handicapped in the local town Fallfest, during the day we were able to raise over $100. We would like to express our appreciation to our chaplain's parents who made a tremendous donation to PUSH • Mr. & Mrs. Lucus. Your generosity is appreciated.

Due to the active participation by chapter members, we feel Pi Kappa Phi is once again the number one fraternity on campus.

Five brothers are currently serving on the Student Council. This Halloween the chapter threw a Fall Harvest Days Celebration which was the highlight of October 1982. We commend some of our brothers who particpate in the local rescue squad. We also take tremendous pride in our intramural football team which, for the second year has rolled on to victory as the champion undefeated.

Chartered September 29, 1979 The younger brothers of our executive council are always eager to try new ideas, as a result of this our fall Rush was very successful.

We have 16 new pledges and they have shown their willingness to work by having two car washes which earned over $170.

Being only three years old we feel there is always room for improvement at Epsilon Gamma Chapter, along with more fund raising projects, we hope to increase our PUSH donation this year, arid we are looking into many community projects to help unfortunate families in our area. Currently, four brothers are on the College Judicial Board, two are on Hall Council and two brothers are officers in I FC. Our intramural teams are doing very well, going to the finals in indoor soccer and bowling and we are looking for 100% participation in every sport.

The brothers of Epsilon Kappa have already donated $505 to PUSH this year. This money was raised through the brother's efforts at an annual book fair held by the American Association of University Women at a local shopping mall, we aided in the set up for sale of over 300,000 used books. Our check for PUSH was delivered to Mike O'Donnel, Push Administrator, at the dedication of the newest PUSH unit at the Georgia Retardation Center on November 24.

For the second year in a row our chapter claimed third place in Southern Tech's annual Goat Night competition. This is similar to Greek Week games and a great deal of credit goes to our team mates, the girls of Gamma Phi Beta.

Chapter awards were presented at the December 4, Founder's Day Banquet. Awards were given to Brian Hynes, the Lampkey Award, Jeff Klop for Sportsman of the Year and the coveted Pi Kapp Man of the Year Award was given to Jeff Luobker.

This semester's social calendar has been particularly busy with the Founder's Day Banquet, a chili dinner, Halloween party and two sorority exchanges. The exchanges were at a Mardi Gras party with the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and a theme party with the Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority.

As Christmas drew near, eight members of the chapter loaded themselves up with candy canes and set out for the nearby shopping mall.

Letters were worn proudly as they swept through the mall wishing children a merry Christmas, and passing out the candy canes.

Last year, during our first few months of being a chartered chapter, we raised over $2,000 for PUSH, which placed us as the 7th largest contributing chapter in the country.

This year in March, Epsilon Mu will hold it's second fund raiser for PUSH and we hope to raise even more money.

cops in increasing our alumni base. Instead of initiating one or two alumni with the associate members, we are initiating these men at an initiation just for them.

This is being done because we feel that these men probably are busy people and can't necessarily adjust to our time schedule, therefore a time can be arranged that is ideal for all concerned.

Also, these prominent citizens may tend to feel a little "funny" or nervous about coming to this unknown ritual with college students and we find it is easier to persuade men into becoming initiates if we can tell them it is only for them. We also set up a luncheon for all of the alumni-initiates for a get together before hand.

EPSILON ZETA University of Central Arkansas Chartered April 4, 1980 Epsilon Zeta has received much welcome assistance from our alumni this fall, Rush expenses were reduced with the aid of Layne Montgomery and Walter Smith. The chapter initiated four new men this fall.

Our chapter is again active in service to the university and community, We participated in blood drives, a Halloween carnival for funding a now alumni park and one member was elected Secretary-General of the Arkansas Model United Nations for the 1983 conference. Travel scholarships were received by two Pi Kapps to attend the Midwest Model United Nations in St. Louis.

Two awards have been initiated at Epsilon Zeta; the Howard A. Wells Brotherhood Award, to be presented at every Founders Day Celebration and the James R. Barker Leadership Award to be presented at each Red Rose.

Howard and Jim are the inspiration and force which initiated this chapter.

The chapter presented Larry Eoff with a $50 scholarship as best associate member for spring 1982, selected as chapter Rose Queen was Patricia Young, one of our little sisters.

We have two new faculty advisors, Dr. Samuel Buchanan and Mr. Paul Jensen. Dr. Buchanan has proven himself to be a powerful and dedicated advisor and will be essential to our development at UCA. Epsilon Zeta had a softball tournament for PUSH and raised over $125. Other money makers this semester included a picnic, and alumnus Walter Smith donated an Atari game for a give-away. We also held our annual Tuck-In. The chapter placed first in the Greek Games, third in intramurals softball, bowling and volleyball. Our record in basketball is 2-0.

We have planned a retreat for the first weekend in spring and are looking forward fox successful semester.

EPSILON LAMBDA University of S.C. at Spartanburg Chartered May 2, 1981 Epsilon Lambda had a very productive year thus far, pledging 15 men during the fall and initiating ten.

We are in the process of raising funds for the Mike Satterfield Scholarship Fund, which is being coordinated by the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation. We hope to award a $500 scholarship each year to a deserving Epsilon Lambda brother.

We take our commitment to PUSH very seriously and are currently working on repeating our President's Club performance of last Among our PUSH projects are, "A year.

Girls of the University Calendar," which we have high hopes for, and we plan to repeat our annual Rock-a-Thon at a local mall. In past years the Rock-a-Thon has proven to be very successful.

The 1982-83 school year has brought monumental change and growth for Epsilon Na Chapter. Having only received our charter in the spring of '82, and having 19 members at the beginning of the year, we were overjoyed at recruiting 19 associate members during the fall semester - all were initiated.

Alumni relations are being emphasized by increasing contact through Rose Ball and a gettogether picnic.

Epsilon Nu would like to thank Ron Osborne, our now Chapter Advisor, for taking interest in us. He is a former Archon from an Gamma Chapter at Berkeley and is an invaluable source of information for us. Also, we would like to thank George Myer for his help in our search for a bigger house which will soon be needed. George is an alumnus of Alpha Upsilon Chapter at Drexel University.

In November we were honored to host a visit from National President, Lonnie Strickland. A barbeque steak dinner was served and Dr. Strickland spoke to our group with many encouraging things to say. It was a very enjoyable evening for everyone.

Epsilon Nu will host the area conclave this spring and we are looking forward to having our brothers from other chapters be our guests.

Our community related activities include the local Senior Citizens program, in which each person was given an older person to guide through a group of prepared activities and our Cancer Dancer Marathon. Pi Kappa Phi in cots• junction with the American Cancer Society will put on a 24-hour dance marathon to raise money for PUSH, as well as for the American Cancer Society. It looks like this will prove to be a big success.

University of Kansas Kansas Associate Chapter The Pi Kappa Phi colony's Homecoming was again a success. The associate chapter, together with Alpha Phi sorority, won second prize for the three dimensional, non-moving float. The theme was, The Fabulous Forties.

On the sporting side, our colony won second place in the volleyball Greek tournament.

PUSH this semester took place on the main shopping street in downtown Lawrence during a Kansas-Nebraska home football game. Wheelchairs were pushed between two blocks for forty miles and donations were collected, in addition to the amount pledged on our sponsor sheets.

Epsilon Eta recently moved out of our old house into a partly remodeled one. The house was filled instantly, as the brothers were anxious to begin the remodeling process. We are working to keep our house the number one on campus.

Service projects served as a big part in our semester as the brothers participated in the Winthrop College's Crime Watch Program, Duke Power's winterizing of low income houses and served as bartenders for the colleges Fine Arts fall fundraising dinner.

Social events for the semester included; Parent's Day, Tri-Sig Mixer, Founder's Day, pro. basketball, and 1201 parties in which other Greek organizations were invited.

The brothers are looking forward to a successful spring as the active membership is now thirty one.

EPSILON THETA Seton Hall University Chartered November 14, 1980 Epsilon Theta is making improvements this semester even though we had a disappointing Rush, our prospects for next semester are looking good.

The chapter has been busy with fund raisers which included sponsoring a Lift-a-Thon at a local gym for PUSH and a raffle for two tickets to a broadway show. We sold close to 500 tickets in two weeks time. The coming semester we are planning to have a fund raiser a month.

Our sincere thanks to all the alumni for their continuous support.

Wives of our convention alumni are sure to enjoy the charm of historic Mobile. Included in the many activities will be a trip to the old Mobile historic home--Oakliegh. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is a perfect reflection of a 19th century Southern home.
