ANNUAL FUND The Annual Fund Needs You With our active alumni membership just over 1,000 strong, we rely on the financial support of our brothers to keep our program running strong. Our annual giving saw a decline last year. Help us to get our annual fund total back up in 2009-10 as we strive to reach our goal of $14,000. The annual fund promotes continued publication of our communications, including Alpha Musings, and enables us to keep you connected with your Pi Kapp friends.

ALUMNI UPDATES

’30s William Griffin ’36 (405 Heron Point, Chestertown, MD 21620; wcgriffin@verizon.net) Last year it was my good fortune to have an Applied Research building at the Wilmington, Delaware Croda facility dedicated in my name. This was based on an article written in 1949 on emulsifier selection by HLB that is still being used by them and also throughout the industry. Google “Griffin HLB” to learn more.

’50s Dick McKnight ’57 (320 Old Oaks Road, Fairfield, CT 06825; mcknightgroup@mail.com) I would have enjoyed the golf event scheduled for this summer; unfortunately, I had a torn patella tendon repaired in June and out of action until the end of September. Don Woodrow ’57 (41 Idaho St., Point Richmond, CA 94801; woodrow@hws.edu) Dave Nash and I are trying to get together. We live in northern CA while Dave lives in southern CA. Meetings are hard to arrange. I met with John and Sue Schmucker for dinner just outside Harrisburg in early August. No occasion, just that I happened to be back east and we got together. Sadly, Bill Simon tried could not join us. I have tried to get in contact with Brother Maggio with no success.

Norman Mawby ’58 ((7 Constance Dr., Glen Riddle, PA 19063; mpgetta1@verizon.net) Vince Carocci ’58 and I have written a book titled Part of the Parade about the unrecognized winners on the Phillies team: those who help make the park run. We interviewed many of the 1,200 team employees last year as the Phillies rolled to victory in the World Series and during this spring season. The employees and management of the Phillies are excellent at providing customer satisfaction. This book shows a rare glimpse at people who take their jobs seriously and perform flawlessly while greatly enjoying their time at Citizens Bank Park. They come from all walks of life and have many interesting individual stories.

’80s Jeff Lasala ’80 (153 Lakeside Dr., Ridgefield, CT 06877; jlasala@ridgefield.org) On August 30, I completed my first Ironman Triathlon in Louisville, Ky. It consisted of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and then I ran my first marathon. My finishing time: 12:07:30! My wife joined me and completed it as well.

firm in September 2009. The new firm, Devon Financial Partners, LLC will be client centric and will focus on tax efficient wealth protection, accumulation and distribution planning techniques.

’00s Russ Talone ’02 (3953 Ridge Pike #201, Collegeville, PA 19426; russtalone@yahoo.com) Below is a picture from my bachelor party which took place at the Temple game in 2008. After being forcibly removed from the tailgate area near the stadium well into the second half of the game, we moved our tailgate to the Days Inn parking lot which was like a ghost town. We were left all afternoon to our own devices before the hotel realized what was going on and eventually ended the party. Most of the guys shown are fellow Pi Kapps. We ended up heading over to the house on Friday night and the active Pi Kapps coordinated a nice little party with my brother and best man, Corey Talone ’04. The current Pi Kapps are great guys and I thank them all. Every time I have been in Happy Valley since, I have felt right at home stopping by the house.

Steven D. Earhart ’81 (7 Trotter Way, Collegeville, PA 19426; seat7tr@comcast.net) I started my own wealth management and employee benefits

Happy “Snowcoming” Despite the uncooperative weather and tailgating ban at Beaver Stadium, Pi Kapp alumni stayed nice and dry at our Homecoming 2009 celebration. Pictured here between two active brothers on either end are (left to right): Gerry Yantis ‘82, Dave Kyle ‘81, Jeff Hathaway ‘49, Bill Simon III ‘59 and Jack Worrell ‘77. See more pictures from our Homecoming celebration at www.alphamupikap.org. Did you brave the weather and tailgate in the Wal-Mart parking lot (or that of another local business)? Share your stories and pictures from that experience on our web site.

FROM THE ARCHIVES Pi Kapps Rock 1982 Fashion Trends We love coming across great pictures from throughout our chapter’s history, including this one from the 1982 LaVie.
