% This%year’s%Fall%Rush%started%with%the% traditional%pig%roast%at%the%Taste%of%the%Quad%on% Saturday,%August%18th.%It%was%prepared%and% smoked%12%hours%prior%to%the%event%and%it%was%a% big%success.%%The%next%day%we%presented%a% recruitment%video%at%“Meet%the%Greeks,”%where%all% of%the%Greek%houses%make%recruitment%videos%or% posters%to%show%potential%rushes.%Monday%we%had% our%mechanical%bull%where%we%all%strapped%on%our% cowboys%boots%for%a%fun%ride.%Tuesday%evening%we% met%with%the%lovely%ladies%of%Kappa%Phi%Delta%to% have%a%movie%night%at%Millennium%Park,%it%was% amazing%to%see%everyone%bonding%over%a%free% movie%and%popcorn,%a%special%thanks%to%the%lovely% ladies%of%KФΔ.%Wednesday%we%all%got%our%gamer% gear%to%play%some%Call%of%Duty%and%Fifa%and%the% competition%was%competitive,%but%fun.%The% warmest%day%of%the%week%was%on%Friday%and%we% decided%to%have%a%BBQ%with%a%solid%Slip%and%Slide.% After%a%fun%week,%19%gentlemen%accepted%the% challenge%of%joining%our%chapter.%A%Warm% Welcome%to%Mohammed%Bekkar,%%Daniel%Cuevas,% Michael%Dobben,%David%Filippini,%Mark%Fletcher,% Dawid%Fraczek,%Bejamin%Frank,%Nick%Garcia%Lara,% Benjamin%Jones,%Yun%Joon%Jung,%Awais%Khan,% Alexander%Lerma,%Diego%Lopez,%Arturo%Melchor,% Michael%Nguyen,%Joseph%Saldivar,%David%Susnis,% Andre%Vega,%and%Gabriel%Wolstenholme.% %

During%this%I^Week%the%pledge%class%of% Spring%13%geared%up%to%finish%up%their%initiation% process.%Throughout%the%week%they%had%to% complete%various%tasks%set%out%to%them%by%the% chaplain.%Ranging%from%spiritual%journeys%to% impactful%lessons%taught%to%them%by%brothers%of% the%house.%The%Serenade%of%the%women%of%IIT's% sororities%went%off%with%the%pledge%class%singing%a% heartfelt%rendition%of%“Forever%"%by%Chris%Brown.% When%the%day%finally%came%for%the%I^day%the%soon% to%be%brothers%began%their%final%trial.%Walking%out% from%the%final%trial%was%1004%Emilio%De%La%Rosa.% Congratulations,%and%welcome%to%the% brotherhood!%

The%annual%Greek%Week%was%hosted%this% semester%which%puts%houses%against%each%other% in% a% friendly% competition.% This% year% the% school% introduced% a% bandana% stealing% contest% where% houses% were% given% 2% bandanas% and% attempted% to%steal%other%houses.%This%was%quickly%stopped% due%to%excessive%force%when%attempting%to%take% other%house's%bandanas.%This%year,%Pi%Kappa%Phi% placed%6th%overall.%The%events%consisted%of:%Cart% race,%8^man%race,%batspin,%tug%of%war,%skit,%dance% off,% cupcake% making% contest,% quiz% bowl,% and% banner% making.% We% placed% first% in% both% the% banner% and% tug% of% war% contests,% proving% our% house% is% both% the% most% creative% and% the% strongest.% This% year% we% are% working% on% improving% our% house% participation% in% these% events%to%hopefully%bring%our%house%to%first%place% in%2014!% %

Parents$Dinner$ Greek$Football$ By:$Chris$Senicka$ % This%year%was%a%great%year%for%Greek% Football.%The%team%finished%second%on%the% Quad,%losing%by%one%touchdown%to%the%Alpha% Sigs%in%a%tightly%contested%ball%game.%The% more%astonishing%fact%was%that%Other%than% Team%captain,%Raven%Watts,%stand%out% lineman%Emilio%De%La%Rosa,%and%veteran% quarter%back%Jefferson%Daniel%Roach%the% roster%was%filled%with%star%studded,%high% ceiling%freshman.%Although%young,%Ben%Jones,% Mark%Fletcher,%Ben%Frank,%Gabe% Wolstenholme,%Alex%Lerma,%and%David% Fillippini%all%showed%resilience%and%poise% under%pressure.%The%team%showed% sportsmanship%and%camaraderie,%they%will% now%take%the%offseason%to%practice%and%train% so%next%year%they%will%bring%a%championship% to%Pi%Kappa%Phi%where%it%belongs.%%

With% another% fall% semester% coming% to% a% close,%another%successful%Parent's%Dinner%was%held% on% October% 26th.% 38% brothers/associates% along% with% 40+% parents% in% attendance% made% for% a% great% event%not%only%for%the%house,%but%Push%America%as% well.%The%two%auctions,%silent%and%live,%brought%in% $1249%dollars%for%donation%to%Push%America.%Items% in% the% auction% included% a% wide% variety% of% gift% baskets,% alcohol,% and% gaming% systems.% This% year% marks% the% most% money% raised% during% parents% dinner%in%over%3%years,%showing%further%growth%in% our% devotion% to% our% national% philanthropic% organization% and% paving% the% road% for% the% next% Public%Relations%chair%to%hold%an%even%better%event% than%those%before%him.%Our%projected%goal%for%next% year% is% to% raise% our% donation% amount% to% 1500% dollars%for%the%night.%

As% is% Pi% Kapp% tradition% we% had% our% semester% Public% Safety% Barbecue.% During% this% event% we% welcomed% Public% Safety% into% our% house%to%enjoy%a%fine%meal%with%the%brothers%of% Pi% Kappa% Phi.% With% the% food% made% by% Jeremy,% our% chef,% the% event% was% a% smashing% success.% Attendance% was% high% on% both% parts% because% who% can% refuse% free% food.% Hopefully% this% tradition%will%continue%on%for%years%to%come.%% Page!3!

By:$Chris$Senicka$ %% Getting% to% know% your% professors% on% a% personal% level% is% a% great% way% to% get% ahead% in% your% classes.% The% faculty% luncheon% does% just% that.% This% semester's% faculty% luncheon% was% attended% by% 8% faculty% members% including% ROTC% commanders%and%teachers%assistants.%The%event% gives% both% our% brothers% and% our% professors% a% view% of% what% our% fraternity% stands% for% and% how% we%apply%these%values%both%inside%and%out%of%the% classroom.%

House$Retreat$ By:$Gabriel!Wolstenholme$ Actives% and% associates% embark% on% the% associate% retreat% each% semester% so% that% all% the% new% members% can% familiarize% themselves% more% with% their% future% brothers.% % This% year% the% brothers% traveled% to% Kankakee% State% Park% in% Illinois.%%The%associates%became%closer%overall%as% they% worked% together% to% build% the% tents% for% themselves% and% the% brothers% efficiently% and% without% incident.% % As% the% night% continued,% the% brothers% and% associates% gathered% around% the% fire% and% created% a% makeshift% grill% so% that% everyone%could%enjoy%hotdogs,%brats,%and%bacon.%% We% continued% to% participate% in% team% building% activities% and% talked% about% how% the% fraternity% has% zero% tolerance% for% hazing% and% exchanged% entertaining% stories% of% current% and% previous% actives.% % Everyone% left% the% next% morning% with% a% greater%meaning%for%the%word%brotherhood.%

On%Friday,%September%27%2013,%we%had%a% mixer%with%a%western%theme%with%the% Kappa%Phi%Delta%sorority.%It%was%held%in%our% basement%of%the%house.%The%basement%was% decorated%in%a%lively%western%theme%with% country%music%playing%in%the%background.% The%activities%included%poker,%pool,% dancing,%eating,%drinking,%and%of%course:% socializing.%There%were%no%alcoholic% beverages%allowed%at%this%mixer%but%sweet% tea%was%provided.%In%addition,%chicken% wings,%chips%and%salsa,%corn,%and%caramel% apples%were%made%by%the%house.%There%was% a%lot%of%socializing%with%the%Kappa%Phi%Delta% ladies%and%it%was%an%overall%great%success,% furthering%positive%inter%greek%relations% across%the%quad.%

By:$Joe$Brennan$ The%night%began%around%10%am%for%some% members% of% our% house% as% they% excitedly% prepared% for% a% night% to% remember.% As% the% day% progressed%more%of%our%beautiful%dates%began%to% arrive% who% ranged% from% being% long% time% lovers,% recent% flames,% and% good% friends,% but% no% matter% who%you%were%taking%it%was%going%to%be%a%night% to%remember.%When%the%coach%buses%arrived%at% our% home% to% take% us% to% Bottom% Lounge% we% eagerly%but%slowly%boarded%the%buses%and%went% on% our% way.% The% night% began% as% we% took% our% seats%took%our%pictures%and%ate%our%fill.%After%our% meal% the% chaplain% gave% a% presentation% and% presented% awards% to% the% Brother% of% the% Year% Arturo% Gonzalez,% Alumni% of% the% Year% Elijah% Haywood,% and% last% but% certainly% not% least% this% year’s%Rose%Queen%Alejandra%Rodriguez.%After%all% the% official% parts% of% the% night% were% done% we% began%to%dance%and%have%an%extraordinary%time.% We% then% returned% to% the% house% by% coach% bus% and% then% proceeded% to% celebrate% a% successful% Roseball.%

Each% year% the% alumni% of% our% Alpha% Phi% chapter%are%invited%back%to%the%house%for%a%night%of% great%stories%and%great%wisdom.%%This%year%we%had% 13% alumni% spanning% from% the% 1990’s% to% the% late% 2000’s% come% and% enjoy% a% good% cigar% and% some% poker.% % The% associates% and% younger% actives% were% able% to% really% connect% with% the% history% of% our% chapter%by%hearing%some%of%the%stories%that%started% seemingly% long% rooted% traditions% that% we% still% follow%to%this%day.%%Intriguing%stories%and%Pi%Kappa% Phi% professional% advice% were% followed% by% an% excellent%presentation%given%by%our%Historian,%Joel% Greggio.% % Our% associates% and% current% executive% board% were% announced% and% told% each% alumni% a% little% bit% about% themselves.% % The% presentation% continued% with% an% overview% of% some% of% our% recently% held% events% and% our% chapter’s% progress% financially,% while% also% outlining% our% chapter% goals% for% the% end% of% this% year% and% next% semester.% % The% alumni%were%very%involved%in%the%presentation%and% asked% lots% of% excellent% questions,% showing% their% desire% to% help% their% previous% home% in% college% as% much% as% they% could,% and% inspiring% current% actives% and%associates%to%get%more%involved.%

No$Boundaries$Week$ By:$Anurup$Kankanhalli$ % Push%America%is%one%of%the%most%unique%initiatives%of%the%Pi%Kappa%Phi%fraternity%that%sets%it%apart% from%most%other%chapters%on%campus.%For%Alpha%Phi%chapter%here%at%Illinois%Tech,%it%is%not%very%different.% Alpha% Phi% chapter% won% the% Best% Philanthropic% event% award% (No% Boundaries% Week)% for% the% year% 2012^ 2013% during% the% Student% Life% Award% Ceremony.% No% Boundaries% Week% has% always% been% our% signature% philanthropic%and%awareness%effort%on%campus.%It%aims%to%not%only%raise%funds%for%Push%America%but%try% to%raise%awareness%for%the%disabled.%%It%also%seeks%to%build%a%spirit%of%community%service%in%those%who%are% curious% and% always% wanted% to% do% volunteer% work% for% their% community.% % No% Boundaries% Week% (Spring% 2013)%was%organized%during%the%week%of%22^26th%April,%2013.A%number%of%new%ideas%were%implemented% for%this%past%No%Boundaries%Week.%Advertising%was%done%ahead%of%time,%trying%to%capitalize%on%the%extra% time%to%inform%the%Illinois%Tech%community%about%the%week’s%events.%Students%from%the%IIT%community,% especially% sisters% of% Alpha% Sigma% Alpha% and% Kappa% Phi% Delta% sorority% stood% with% us,% helping% us% raise% awareness%and%funds.%This%helped%contribute%to%the%resounding%success%of%No%Boundaries%Week%and%also% built% better% Greek% relations.% A% large% number% of% events% were% carried% over% from% previous% years,% like% the% Scaffold%Sit,%Pie^A^Pi%Kapp%and%Push^ups%for%Push.%%Brothers%rode%around%campus%on%wheel%chairs,%trying% to% identify% inaccessible% areas% on% campus% and% also% trying% to% understand% the% challenges% of% negotiating% daily%tasks%and%chores%on%a%wheelchair.%The%new%events%for%this%No%Boundaries%week%included%Volleyball% for%Push%and%Cookout%on%the%Quad.%Volleyball%for%Push%aimed%to%help%IIT%students%relax%and%relieve%some% end%of%the%semester%stress%and%work%up%a%good%appetite%for%some%dollar%hot%dogs%and%corn%on%the%cob.% These%new%events%were%a%success%and%brought%us%to%a%grand%total%of%$1380%raised%in%the%week,%a%step%up% from%previous%years.% In%spite%of%bad%weather%in%the%middle%of%the%week,%the%brothers’%hard%work%and%dedication%paid% off,%with%greater%numbers%of%the%Illinois%Tech%community%acknowledging%our%mission%and%being%a%part%of% our%cause.%I%would%like%to%thank%all%the%brothers%and%alumni%who%endured%hours%of%rain%and%sunshine%to% help%achieve%success%for%our%wonderful%cause.%I%hope%this%week%served%to%help%build%leaders%of%tomorrow% by%serving%people%with%disabilities%today.% %
