ALPHA PSI

LETTER FROM THE ARCHON The 2013-2014 school year is coming to a close for the Alpha Psi Chapter at Indiana University. A new Executive Board was recently elected and is excited to start implementing some of the new and fresh ideas that will make Alpha Psi an ideal chapter. Something that the new Executive Board is looking to implement is the formation of more committees and continued commitment towards to standards board initiative. We want to continue our goal of more brother participation. The Alpha Psi Chapter has seen its share of difficulties this school year, but it has been a great learning lesson. The chapter will come out stronger than ever and will continue to grow in all aspects. Written By: Oliver Sutter, Archon

PSIDELINES Push America As the Philanthropy Chair at Alpha Psi, I would like to share how successful we have been this year. In the 20132014 school year, we have raised more money than in the past two years combined. We hosted a dad's weekend golf outing during our first semester, which raised more than $5,000. We rented an entire golf course and had enough participation to use it to its full capacity… had a great time bonding with brothers and their fathers. Additionally, during this spring semester we hosted a mom's weekend silent auction. Moms brought auction items for the weekend on which bids were placed. For this event, we raised around $6,000! Our alumni board has also graciously matched the first $10,000 that we raised. What Alpha Psi has taken the most pride in, though, was our Dancin' For Doc event that was successfully held in March. It was an event to remember and honored Doctor Summers, whom we tragically lost last fall. Dancin’ For Doc is a Dancing With The Stars spinoff where each sorority (21 sororities) provided one dancer and one dance coach to be paired with a Pi Kappa Phi brother. The event took place outside on a beautiful day and there was a great participation. The event raised around $5,000 in total. Above: Partners in the first annual Dancin’ For Doc fundraiser show off their best dance moves and clever routines!

As a whole, we have made over $25,000 for Push America and hope to continue raising money through the remainder of the school year. Written by: Jordan Cloch, Push Chair

NEW INITIATE REACTION Finally becoming an initiate of Pi Kappa Phi’s Alpha Psi Chapter, is a truly life changing experience. The Beta Delta associate pledge class has worked tediously to become very knowledgeable and educated about the chapter and fraternity as a whole. To finally become a brother of this prestigious organization, Pi Kappa Phi, was an unbelievable honor and our associate class was proud to be initiated. Through our experiences we have become a cohesive, well-knit group and we learned a lot about ourselves as well. Our associate class has not only grown strong bonds with each other, but also within the entire chapter. This house has taught us a lot already, and we are eager to keep learning. Being brothers with these men will bring only the most positive experiences during our next three years. Becoming a part of this chapter was definitely one of the best days of our lives, and we know the future only contains even more memorable moments. Now that we are initiated brothers we, too can work to maintain the Pi Kappa Phi way by improving our house and chapter every single day. I cannot wait to see where this chapter will be continue to grow and improve, along with our brothers -- across the country. Written by: Chase Kirsch, Beta Delta Class President

Qualifications/Little 500 Pi Kapp Cycling got off to a great start this year with our junior rider Ned Ruter placing 4th overall out of nearly 200 riders in the street sprints during the Fall Cycling Series. Ned and senior Casey Crist also rode in this past year’s Hilly Hundred under the Pi Kapp name. This winter, we added 3 new freshman riders who have been showing a lot of promise in training. Mike Berrens, Zack Bernard and Chase Kirsch have all been working hard and are exciting prospects for the future of our squad. Qualifications this year were an interesting experience to say the least. Our official qualification time was originally set for 11:50 a.m., but due to rain, it was postponed 5 hours to 4:50 p.m. After 2 disappointing disqualifications, our team regrouped and got ready for our third and final run at 9:45 p.m. Our team of seniors Casey Crist and Mike Jank along with sophomores Ben Groya and Matt Laubach took the track and successfully completed our final run in a time of 2:33.79 for 23rd place. Our team is excited for the race on April 26th, and we’re looking forward to attempting to improve on our position of 22nd from last year. A special thank you to our bike coach, Mike Crenna, for his continuous support over the years!
