September 2019 An Alumni Newsletter Published by the Beta Iota Chapter Historian (Brennan Roop) of Pi Kappa Phi

Fall and Spring Rush – 2018-2019 Last fall we had the pleasure of initiating 20 associate members into our chapter as the Fall 2018 class. These members were initiated on November 4, 2018. On March 23rd, 2019, we initiated five associate members as the Spring 2019 class, bringing us to a total of 1,102 brothers initiated into Beta Iota. Since this time, we have seen these gentlemen grow tremendously, whether it was beginning an executive position right after being initiated, (Jacob Oberski, BI #1088 – Current Risk Manager) or becoming more involved on the University of Toledo’s campus. These gentlemen learned as an associate member what it had taken to be a Pi Kappa Phi gentleman.

No Boundaries Week and Pi Kapp Pasta – Fall 18’/Spring 19’ During the week of September 4-7th, and April 15-18th, we had the pleasure of conducting our biannual No Boundaries Week where we hosted several events ranging from Pi a Pi Kapp, Pi Kapp Puppies, and one of our newer events, Pi Kapp Dunk Tank. We proudly ended the week with Pi Kapp Pasta, where we raised a total of $2,670 for The Ability Experience. Alpha Xi Delta was named as the first ever Rose Queens, for being the highest contributor in the sorority coin race. In Spring 2019, Phi Sigma Rho was named as the current Rose Queens.

Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the information contained herein. The Beta Iota Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi, nor Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity is liable for errors or omissions. © 2019 Pictured to the right was Fall 2018’s Rose Queens, Alpha Xi Delta which was announced at Pi Kapp Pasta.

During Fall 2018, we re-branded the sorority coin race to what many other Pi Kapp chapters use, War of the Roses. With the highest contributing sorority being named the Rose Queens, taking home the trophy.

Founders Day – 2018

Songfest – Forever Legends - 2019

On December 8th, 2018, we were able to reconnect with Beta Iota alumni, many traveling far to attend. This event was hosted at the Toledo Club for our annual Founder’s Day. We reconvened just like old times, to catch up with our brothers that we had not seen for some time. During the dinner, we had the pleasure of handing out several awards to alumni and our active brothers to recognize continued achievements as a brother of Pi Kappa Phi.

On March 30, 2019, the Beta Iota chapter performed alongside other Fraternities in one of the University of Toledo’s second oldest traditions, and what Pi Kapp holds dearly to our hearts, Songfest. Our set this year consisted of a Shawn Mendes track. Many of you probably know… we had taken the win for another year!!

Pi Kappa Phi – PKCCO 2019 On January 11-13th, the newly elected executive board of 2019 traveled to Columbus for Pi Kapp College for Chapter Officers. While attending, the whole executive board benefited from their individual sessions for each position. During the closing ceremony, Beta Iota was given several respected awards, nine, with one award recognizing us as being one of the top 10 chapters in the country (Founders Award).

Alumni Spotlight Richard Russell Perry (007)

Brother Richard Perry (Pin 007), passed away on July 20th, 2019. Mr. Perry was Toledo born, and a brother of Beta Iota. Mr. Perry served as a Professor, Associate-Vice President for Academic Affairs, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, all serving under 13 presidents, alongside several other collegiate administrative positions. Brother Perry served as the first chapter advisor of our fraternity. Mr. Perry was not only looked up to by brothers, but by several others, upholding the values of a Pi Kappa Phi man. Mr. Perry will always hold a place in our hearts, and the hearts of many.
