Star and Lamp Fall 2013

A Word from The Archon Brothers young and young at heart, It gives me great pleasure to report that the current state of the Beta Upsilon chapter of Pi Kappa Phi is very strong. In my time here at the University of Virginia, I have seen our fraternity constantly improve, year after year, with each additional pledge class. I truly believe our chapter stands at a position right now where it is well respected by the University community. This would not be possible without the continued efforts of both our current active members as well as our dedicated alumni. To both groups, I humbly thank you for your service to our great chapter. Without a doubt, what I see as our chapter’s strongest asset – our brotherhood – is stronger and more united than ever. Our brothers have involved themselves in the Inter-Fraternity Council, soccer coaching, intramural sports, the Honor Committee, the Cavalier Daily, the University Guide Service, and many other organizations. This past spring, we had an incredibly successful rush. Our nineteen new members hail from all over – from England to California, from Northern Virginia to Virginia Beach – and everywhere inbetween. For those of you who were unaware, the administration in April decided to suspend pledging for all fraternity chapters. Despite the abrupt end of pledging, we have made sure that our nineteen newly initiated brothers understand the traditions that have guided Pi Kapp for decades. I urge all alumnus and their families to stay involved with our chapter. While our alumni base is sizable, it is only through your continued involvement and lively participation that our active members can truly feel and understand what it means to have lifelong brotherhood. And don’t worry - we are still having as much fun as possible. Fraternally, Andrew Fry Shachat, Archon
