Brothers, Currently, it is a very exciting time to be an undergrad in the Eta Iota chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. I would first like to thank our alumni for the many contributions that you have made to make our chapter what it is today. Without all of your efforts, this chapter would not have been able to remain strong for fifteen years and counting. As our alumni base continues to grow each and every semester, alumni relations becomes more and more important. In recent years, alumni relations have been one of our chapter’s weaker areas. However, we have taken measures improve upon this weakness. On April 5th, 2008, our chapter will be celebrating fifteen years of excellence in the form of an alumni golf tourna-

ment and reception. I encourage all alumni to attend this outing as a means to strengthen the connection between undergrads and alumni. Consider this an opportunity to meet up with your best friends, and to see how the chapter has evolved since your time as an undergrad. When I was ini-

very well and when still hold true to our core values of togetherness and quality over quantity. We currently have initiated 215 Brothers, and with twelve pledges this semester, even more great things are in store for the chapter. Thanks again for all of your time and effort. This chapter is the ideal chapter, and it is credited to our great alumni for making it so. In Pi Kappa Phi, Grant Howard #199, Historian

tiated as a Brother the chapter was in great condition. I see it as my duty and responsibility to leave the chapter in a better condition than when I first joined it. Our beloved chapter is doing

Golf Outing and Reception to Celebrate 15 Year Anniversary of Eta Iota Our Eta Iota chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity will be celebrating its 15th anniversary this April, and all brothers - past and present - are invited to join in on the festivities. To honor our Alumni, the chapter has decided to host an alumni golf tournament and reception. This event is designed to welcome alumni back to their roots as Pi Kapps of CNU. The tournament will begin at 10 am on Saturday, April 5th. Teams will be formed by matching two alumni and two undergrad brothers. Following the tournament, there will be an awards ceremony to crown the winners and celebrate our 15 years of Broth-

erhood. The reception will be catered and will also include a cash bar. This will be a great day in our chapter’s proud history. This event costs $75 ($50 for golf and $25 for dinner). If you cannot make it for golf then you will only be charged $25 for dinner, or vice versa. Checks should be mailed to 434 University Place Newport News, VA 23606 and made out to "Pi Kappa Phi." Along with your check please include your name, phone number, street address, e-mail address, and your desired golfing partner. Payments must be received prior to March 20th in order to RSVP. We are asking

that you help spread the word to every brother you can for this event, word of mouth advertising will be the easiest way to bring out as many brothers as possible. If you have any questions or comments please contact the Historian, #199 Grant Howard. Grant’s contact information can be found in the ’Update Your Contact Information!’ section on page 4 of the newsletter. Our chapter is very excited about this opportunity to meet with our alumni brothers and we hope to see everyone there!

Eta Iota Adds Brother to Journey of Hope Crew We are pleased to announce that one of our current brothers, # 209 Brian McDonald, was selected and has committed himself to serving on the Journey of Hope crew this summer. Brian will be traveling across the U.S. alongside those biking the cross-country trip from California to Washington, D.C.. Also, Brian will have the unique experience to work with other fellow Pi Kapps to help raise awareness for people with disabilities.

“We all know what a great cause PUSH America is. I want to keep the tradition alive of representing Eta Iota in the Journey of Hope.” - # 209 Brian Mcdonald

Brian will be the third Pi Kapp from the Eta Iota chapter to participate in the Journey of Hope. #155 Mike Combs biked

the trip 3 years ago and # 163 Billy Boulden served on a crew team 2 years ago. Brian is excited about this opportunity presented before him. Brian said, “We all know what a great cause PUSH America is. I want to keep the tradition alive of representing Eta Iota in the Journey of Hope.” Brian will be heading out to Charlotte, North Carolina on June 1st to begin his training as a crew member. Following training, Brian will begin the journey starting in San Francisco on June 11th. Brian will be riding along on the South route which will take him through Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisi-

ana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and end in Washington D.C. on August 16. As part of his commitment to the crew Brian must raise $2,500 by April 15th. He is well on his way but is also seeking donations to make this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity possible. So lets make sure that he can go since he has offered to bring credit to the chapter by spending 2 months of his summer to a worthwhile cause. Also, remember donations are tax deductible! However, our scholarship chair is currently working with those that were awarded deferred bids so they can hopefully pledge for the Fall 2008 semester and be a part of the Alpha Epsilon pledge class.

Anyway, we are very excited about this pledge class as they seem like a great group of guys and have some pretty good grade point averages that could definitely help us out. The Alpha Delta pledge class is as follows:

Intramural Sports Flag Football The chapter has continued to carry on the tradition of dominating in flag football. Our team consisted of Jarred Steiner, Grant Jones, Grant Howard, Kevin Diamond, Tommy Knoll, Stephen O’Brien, Chris Mann, Bob Kime, and Ryan Broadwater. During the season we lost only one game. During the regular season we outscored our opponents 125-0. Our only loss came against a team consisting of the school’s former football players that had used up all 4 years of their eligibility. Our final game against them was a nail-bitter but we unfortunately lost by a touchdown.

good start by winning both games. We won our first game against ‘The Annexation of Puerto Rico’ 52-28.We also won our most recent game against ‘The Finest’ 44-0. After the savage flogging they took from us, we agreed that they should switch their team name to ‘The Shittiest’.

Alumni Spotlight: #46 Patrick Bethea We figured a good way for the alumni of our chapter to stay updated with one another was to feature an alumni spotlight for each newsletter that we published every semester. We thought that this would be popular with alumni and would encourage them to participate more often in events like the 15 year anniversary golf outing. Anyway, we are proud to feature #46 Patrick Bethea as the subject of the ‘Alumni Spotlight’ for the Spring 2008 newsletter. For the few of you that might not know ‘Pat B’, he is a brother from the Delta pledge class. While pledging he was officially dubbed the ‘Grape Ape’. Others may know him as Big Poppa. Pat B. was initiated along with the rest of his pledge class on April 16, 1994. His big brother was #40 Milton Roman. Here’s an update on what Pat B’s been up to these days.

Since graduation Pat B. has stayed in the area and currently lives in Newport News. Right now he has been doing well for himself as he works for the Department of Defense as a Navy Contractor. Pat B.’s hobbies include taking pictures and keeping in touch with alumni (and visiting them) when he can. When asked to describe his favorite memory

as a Pi Kapp while attending CNU he replied: “Winning CNU Homecoming King in 1997 and being raised in the air like a coach that won the Super Bowl,”. Some of the positions that Pat. B held while at CNU included Chaplain, Historian, and Social Chair

We have provided Pat B.’s contact information below to encourage everyone to keep in touch with that may have lost his information. Patrick Bethea Cell Phone: (757) 871-4189
