ETA UPDATE

Chapter Posts Record Rush Formal and Spring Rush Total 24 New Members By Jon Decker, #226, Historian

With formal rush behind us, the Eta Upsilon chapter is very pleased to welcome the Upsilon class to the fraternity. As a chapter, we had a very successful rush period, and at the conclusion we had fifteen men accept bids, making the Upsilon class one of the largest associate classes in the short history of the Eta Upsilon chapter. These men are clearly men of CLASS, and as such the active chapter is very excited to welcome them into our brotherhood. The new associates embody

the very principles all of us strive to live as active brothers Warden Jason Marsico said, “The Upsilon class came in to great optimism throughout the chapter and has surpassed even the highest expectations. This class is well on its way to becoming the next great leaders of Pi Kappa Phi.” James Sharpe, president of the Upsilon class, also is very optimistic and excited for the future. He said, “The Upsilons are very eager to learn all about the history, values, and principles of Pi

Past & Future It was great to see so many of you last fall at the 10 year anniversary. For those who did not attend, we definitely missed you. The banquet was exce&ent and we had a great turnout of both members and guests (see group picture on page 3). In addition to celebrating a successful 10 years of Eta Upsilon, you wi& also see in this issue that the chapter is working hard to ensure future success with the recruitment of a record number of new members this semester. As usual, a large number of active members plan to participate in summer Push America events, and the chapter represented we& at this year’s Miami University Greek Awards Banquet. As always, enjoy this issue and please contact me with comments or updates. -Brandon Tudor, #81 brandon.j.tudor@gmail.com Kappa Phi and the Eta Upsilon chapter. We look forward to becoming full, active brothers so we can begin to take on more meaningful and involved leadership roles within the chapter.” (see Rush - continued on page 2)

THE ETA UPSILON CHAPTER OF PI KAPPA PHI FRATERNITY, MIAMI UNIVERSITY (Rush - continued +om page 1) Currently, the class is hard at work increasing Pi Kapp’s visibility on campus. They have been consistent crowd-pleasers as they have serenaded over 14 sororities this semester. The class is also beginning its intense preparation for Puttin’ On The Hits and Puddle Pull, two events which they are very much excited for.

At the beginning of the year, should feel confident that the Upthe chapter set a goal of getting a 15-man class this year, and we are all very proud of everyone’s efforts

to realize this goal and bring it to fruition. From top to bottom, the Upsilon class is filled with quality men who are more than capable of leading this chapter into the future. Both actives and alumni

silon class is ready to lead this chapter into the future, and that these men represent the continued commitment of the Eta Upsilon chapter to recruit and develop men of CLASS, men who every one of us can be proud to call our brothers.

CHAPTER GEARS UP FOR SUMMER PUSH AMERICA EVENTS By Jon Decker, #226, Historian In keeping with Eta Upsilon’s strong commitment so service and philanthropy, several brothers from the chapter are currently hard at work preparing for the Push America national events. The Eta Upsilon chapter is currently sending three brothers to do Build America, and six brothers have signed up for the Journey of Hope. These brothers represent the highest commitment to service, as they are voluntarily giving up their summers in order to help those with disabilities and raise awareness about their condition. Three brothers are currently hard at work meeting fundraising goals for the Build America 2007 Team. These brothers are Jeremy Erb, Patrick Manley, and Justin Jodrey. In addition to these men, former Archon and current senior

Joe Ripberger has been named as a project manager for the summer. The event kicks off at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and will

take the team through Ohio, Indiana, Illinios, Missouri, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, Virginia, and Washington D.C. Senior Patrick Manley said, “The BAM team is really looking forward to making our mark this year. We look forward to not only helping construct more accessible facilities for those with disabilities, but we also look forward to spending quality time with the campers to

brighten their days and lift some of their burdens.” In addition to the Build America team, Eta Upsilon is also sending six brothers to the Journey of Hope, which is the highest number of brothers from a single chapter doing the event this year. The team is hard at work meeting the $5000 fundraising goal, and many team members have been doing sorority presentations and other things to meet their goals. In addition their fundraising efforts, the team has also been preparing physically for the grueling crosscountry ride. They have been taking spinning and other cycling classes at the Rec, and all of the team members have now begun a deliberate training program which includes weight-lifting, running, (see Push - continued on page 3)

Chapter Advisor’s Report By Matt Wray, #121, Chapter Advisor The BOAA continues to be actively involved with the chapter with Dr. Bill Gracie supporting the brothers’ scholastic endeavors and Gary Manka focusing on leadership development. The chapter has had a great year. Formal recruitment yielded 15 men and as of the writing of this article 7 men accepted bids with an additional 7 outstanding for spring recruitment. It is certainly good news. The chapter recently received significant recognition from the greek community during the Greek Awards Celebration. The chapter was presented with the Derrell Hart Most

improved Chapter Award. Eric Berkey was named the Phillip and Ma r t h a S h r i v e r O u t s t a n d i n g Greek Man of the Year and Eric McNeily was named the Warren Nelson Community Service Award Winner. With 8 awards in total, it collectively represents an outstanding achievement! On the Housing Corporation front, things continue to go well. Under the able leadership of Ryan Dlugosz and supported by Kyle Hauessler and Rick Swensen, HC has continued to ensure quality housing for the fraternity with an eye to the future. Coming off the successful 10

year celebration last fall, there has been growing interest in establishing a formal alumni structure for Eta Upsilon. While there is sure to be much discussion and planning to come, please let contact me if you’re interested in supporting the effort.
