Letter from the Archon By: Jonathan Huth This semester has been one of new challenges and growth for the Iota Beta chapter. The New Executive Council has been working hard alongside the chapter to improve our quality of membership. We have been holding more events, such as our recent crawfish boil, to promote and strengthen our sense of brotherhood. This semester, we rushed 6 new Associate Members into our fraternity, and we have high hopes for each of them. Our inaugural Push Adventure, created by Santiago Hyslop III, was suc-
cessful and raised over $1000 dollars in under eight hours. Rose Ball is also approaching, and the chapter is working hard to make it successful. If you wish to attend, please inform us so we pass on more details to you. Please be sure to follow our fan page at www.facebook.com/ PKPUTSA if you haven’t already to receive updates on the chapter. We, as a chapter, are excited for the future and hope that you continue to support us as we move forward. We hope to hear from you again soon!

Associate Member Retreat By Hunter Fulghum This past weekend we held the Associate Member Retreat; it went very well. We had clear skies, starry nights, and a whole lot of fun. We kicked off Friday night with the Delta Sigma and put the AM’s to the test exploring their knowledge and comprehension of our student creed, given that our values are intricately designed in our student creed. The AM’s were asked to recite individual stanzas to guarantee the successful apprehension of these values instead of reciting from start to finish. On Saturday we held a fence
project bright and early and a cou- live a life of Pi Kappa Phi. They ple team-building activities. We did a great job in all the tasks started out the afternoon on a rope course; we used this task to help build their unity as a whole, communication amongst each other, and to allow them to take charge as leaders. We ended the afternoon with another team building activity, where they were prompted to lift and move a bucket using ropes to build teamwork and communication. Overall this weekend, I believe the guys came back with a sense of Armando, Rafael, Eric, Blake, brotherhood and the determinaMatt, and Josue (left to Right) tion and will power it takes to

Inaugural Push Adventure By: Santiago Hyslop III The Inaugural Push Adventure was a successful event, it was hosted by the brothers of Pi Kappa Phi in order to raise awareness and collect donations for Push America. This event was a competition between Sigma Kappa, Gamma Phi Beta, Zeta Tau Alpha, Alpha Sigma Alpha, and Alpha Omicron Pi sororities. The main objective was to collect as many donations as possible and have as many of their sisters participate in the obstacle course.
The obstacle course was to challenge the participants when faced with a disability and it was held around campus during the event hours. At the end Alpha Omicron Pi collected about $515.00 and was the winner. Anna the candidate for AOPi is going to be crowned Miss Push America. At the end of the day it was a successful event and the Iota Beta Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi collected a rough estimate of about $1,367.40 during those 7 hours.

Crawfish Boil 2013
The chapter has had some good social events this semester, starting with the Brotherhood/ philanthropy event at California Pizza Kitchen which went over well. It was a fun night of eating with brothers while 20% of the bills went to Push America. Another great event we had this semester was the crawfish boil set up by Hunter Fulghum. The
Crawfish boil was hosted at Mitchell Corona, John Paul Borrego, and Cody’s house on St. Patrick’s Day. It was an awesome day of brotherhood, crawfish and, good conversations. A Date night was held at Car-vel Skate Center where the brothers got to bring out there dates and strap on some skates. We hope to plan more events in the future
the members, but also gets our fraternity more recognition on campus. In the fall, our only team was for Football. Our young squad tried hard, but eventually lost in the first round of playoffs. Spring was kicked off with Outdoor Soccer, where our team made it to the second
round of playoffs before falling. Our first basketball team had an outstanding debut in the regular season with no losses, but an overtime loss dashed our hopes of winning the title. We are now focusing on our softball team and we also hope to create a dodge ball team as well.
Intramurals By: Matthew Nelson Guys love to compete in athletic games, and the men of Iota Beta are no exception. This year has seen an increase in both the number of brothers participating and the number of sports we participate in. Our participation in these sports not only builds stronger bonds between

Alumni Spotlight By: Alejandro Lara As joining Pi Kappa Phi the Spring semester of 2012 was one of the best decisions I have made, joining made my college experience worth while. Partaking in a leadership position as secretary for the chapter in the Fall of 2012 was a great challenge that was given to me. I enjoyed accomplishing many task for the chapter on and off campus. Graduating the Fall of 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, my plan is to apply to dental school this coming cycle in May and hoping to at-
tend the Baylor College of Dentistry the fall of 2014. I hope that in the future the chapter grow exponentially in size, strengthen its relationships with the sororities on campus, and increase it’s university relations.
