Mr. Greek

Ability Weekend On the weekend of September 14th, nine of the brothers went to Camp Harmon in Boulder Creek to do community service. These brothers put in great work, and each accumulated 43 hours of community service. The brothers chopped wood, painted cabins, cleaned roofs, spread wood chips, and made Camp Harmon look incredible. “It allowed me to just build great relationships with bros.” says Secretary Nate Rosener, who attended the Ability Camp, “Alongside with that it was cool fixing up the camp and seeing the final product of our work and knowing that we put in a bunch of work for other people to enjoy was a cool feeling throughout the length of the camp” The brothers from Iota Sigma also got the opportunity to meet and bond with brothers from other chapters. Brothers from Pomona, Sonoma State, Sacramento State, and UC Davis were all out there working hard. “It allowed me to see first hand with other Pi Kapps from other schools to see what our philanthropy does to help people with disabilities.” says Brother John Medellin, “ I would go again in a heartbeat.”

Earlier this month, Brother Branden Parent and the Brothers of Pi Kappa Phi (Iota Sigma) competed in Alpha Omicron Pi’s philanthropy event, Mr. Greek, which raised money toward the Arthritis Foundation. This was the first major event that we competed in this school year. The Brothers made it apparent that this event was a way to get our names out there in the SJSU Greek community, post-chartering. Brother Branden Parent shared his experience with the event, saying that “[Mr. Greek] was a great opportunity to build house relations with Alpha Omicron Pi and to help raise money to a great cause that [he] has had first-hand experience with, as [he is] diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis”. Overall, Brother Parent had a great time with the entire experience, from raising money to showing off his talent to building connections with the women of Alpha Omicron Pi, it is surely an experience that was greatly beneficial to all.

ALUMNI UPDATES: Connor Lawrence

From October 24-26, the brothers of Iota Sigma supported Brother Nathan Rosener as he ran for Delta Zeta’s Diamond Stud. Participation in another week of philanthropy was important to the brothers in order to be as involved as possible during our first full semester as a chartered chapter. Pi Kapp, along with ten other fraternities, competed in a series of events during this week to raise money for Delta Zeta’s Starkey Hearing Foundation. The week consisted of a tailgate, a version of dunk tank advertised as “Dunk a DZ”, and a flag football competition on the final day, where seven brothers competed alongside Brother Rosener. All in all, Brother Rosener enjoyed running for Delta Zeta’s philanthropy to help strengthen the chapter’s relationship with the women of Delta Zeta.

After brother Connor Lawrence graduated from San Jose State University with a bachelor’s degree in Communicative Disorders and Sciences, he started his Doctor of Audiology program in Pennsylvania. Along with graduate classes, he has been working clinical rotations at the Pennsylvania Ear Institute. According to Connor, “I’ve been having about a midterm a week. In
