A new semester means a new rush season. Our recruitment committee drew upon events from past recruitment periods that were successful, and they proved to be a hit once again. The BBQ Cook Out allowed potential recruits to socialize with our brothers while enjoying hot dogs and hamburgers prepared fresh by our “grill master”, Chris Voreck. Other events included Game Night, where guys battled it out in intense games of Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros, getting to better know one another all the while. After recruiting week ended, 8 new members accepted their bids and were welcomed into the Pi Kapp community. And we can use their help while preparing for our next recruitment, slated for early November!

Joe Ordaz brings home Most Spirited Award! Delta Zeta had their Diamond Stud philanthropy this week and our very own Joe Ordaz represented the brothers of Iota Sigma! Wednesday was Coin Wars fundraising, followed by Cupcake Wars on Thursday and a multiorganizational flag football tournament on Friday. The brothers raised over $650 solely on cupcakes, bringing us to 2nd place in Cupcake Wars and allowing us to take home the Most Spirited Award!

Avnish Patel for ΑΦ’s King of Hearts

Wildlife Reserve Volunteering

Our brother Avnish is running for Alpha Phi’s King of Hearts philanthropy. Events will be held early this November in order to raise money for women's heart disease. “I am really thankful to be participating in this philanthropy. Thank you all for the amazing support” says Avnish. The philanthropy will include various fundraisers as well as a talent show portion in which Avnish and several other brothers will be performing a dance routine. Let’s see those moves! Here’s to wishing Avnish and Alpha Phi good luck!

On October 22, 2017, the brothers ventured to work on a Reserve owned by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). Each member of the team contributed 7 and 1/2 hours of time, much of it carrying heavy materials and heavy equipment in on a small trail to the site. It was a positive learning experience for them as they were able to help on the Reserve and spend

SJSU Disability Awareness Fair

This past Tuesday, brother Branden Parent hosted a Disability Fair through Associated Students aimed to raise awareness. Several booths were set up to help educate about individuals with disabilities ranging from autism to blindness and many brothers offered to volunteer. It was an all day event and was widely successful as many students who walked by were encouraged to spend a minute and take away a meaningful understanding and empathy towards people with disabilities.
