THE ALUMNI NEWSLETTER OF PI KAPPA PHI AT MOREHEAD STATE UNIVERSITY

FALL2013

HOMECOMING 2013 Greetings Brethren,

Homecoming is right around the corner—October 26th, 2013! I sincerely hope all My name is Chris Darnell and I am the alumni brothers can attend. Tailgating starts at Chapter Historian. I pledged Fall 2009 and am 11:00am and the game kickoff starts at currently a graduate student studying Biology 1:00pm. at Morehead State. Yours in Pi Kappa Phi, This year is a great year for our beloved Chris Darnell Delta Eta chapter. 2013 marks the 40th year  503n2 since the original founding of our chapter at Morehead State University in 1973. With that being said, I would like for this year to be a great starting point to improving Alumni Relations.

Potential Housing Opportunities (cont. page 2) Since being appointed housing chair in the spring of 2013, I have put forth profound efforts on potential housing opportunities for the Delta Eta chapter. Since the spring of 2013, I have made continuous contact with Pi Kappa Phi Properties and our National Headquarters to housing an option for Delta Eta. The current advisor, Thomas Jones, and myself have had conference calls with Mr. Greg Buehner from Pi Kappa Phi Properties. We have since formed a housing

corporation, scouted potential properties, and been in contact with local banks for a potential loan. Even after these latest efforts, we are still very far from obtaining a house for our beloved Delta Eta. If anyone wants to know any more information regarding the housing details please contact me, Garrett Creech (859-473-0035), or at my email gacreech@moreheadstate.edu. A Letter From The Archon

Page 2 My Delta Eta Brothers,

tunity for us all to come together as lifelong brothers.

Hello, my name is Tyler Fraser and it is my pleasure to lead our Delta Eta Chapter as Archon again this Fall. We currently have a strong active roster of 33 men with nine associate members hoping to be initiated this November, and are led by our new advisor and Delta Eta Alum, Tee Jones. The semester has started of with a bang as we just completed No Boundaries Week 2013, crowned our new Miss Push America and held our 4th Annual Horizon Village Prom. We have set many goals for the year, one of which is to greatly improve our alumni relations. We plan to establish at least two alumni/active events separate from Homecoming and Roseball such as a possible Grillout Reunion at Horizon Village or an Active/Alum Softball Game. We are also in the process of acquiring a Chapter House, hopefully within the next 12 months and this is a perfect oppor-

It is a great time to be a Pi Kappa Phi at Delta Eta right now. We have won Fraternity of the Year four years in a row and have a chapter GPA of 3.09. We raised over $3,900 for Push America helping people with disabilities and as a chapter completed 1030 hours of community service this year. I can attest that our brotherhood and diversity is as strong as it has ever been in my three and a half years as an active brother. As the semester comes to a close, we look forward to reuniting with you at Homecoming this Fall on October 26th! A Word from the Treasurer Hello, my name is Tim Hildebrandt, Treasurer of Pi Kappa Phi at Morehead State University. I am here to talk about how our chapter is doing through finances. So far, we have made excellent progress on collection of dues and staying on track with the budget. In fact if there continues to be a great collection rate from our members, then we potentially could have the best budget within the last 5 years. As treasurer,

I will continue to set deadlines for dues and strive to lower our debt in the fraternity. Recently we have been looking into a new house and I will work with the housing chair intently for the rest of my term. I hope we can accomplish this goal in the near future.

As Warden of this year’s Fall 2013 pledge class, I would first like to say how excited I am to pass down my knowledge of Pi Kappa Phi and all its great history to the newest members. This year I plan to educate all new members on not only the history of Pi Kappa Phi, but also its importance to the Delta Eta chapter itself. I feel that in order to maintain a 100 percent retention rate for these new members you must show how Pi Kappa Phi has progressed over the years and how that has lead us to where we stand today.

A couple of goals for this semester are: 100 percent retention rate for new members, equipping these new members with a vast amount of Pi Kappa Phi history that will help through out the pledging process, and finally showing these new members how the Delta Eta has made its own history, that has helped push Pi Kappa Phi into the spotlight at the national level.

Sincerely, Lou Woods

Journey of Hope This upcoming summer I am planning to be a cyclist on Journey of Hope. My goal is to raise $6,500, and currently I have $1,630. Right now I don’t have a bike but am working on plans to get one. This fall I have to attend regional team training with other brothers who are planning to ride next summer so we can learn the basics of riding and all the rules of the road to be as safe as possible. Over the next few months up until the beginning of May I have to ride a total 1,500 miles. I am hoping to be able to get on the TransAmerica team so that I am able

to ride through my hometown and Morehead. It is also the hardest and longest trip and I love a challenge. To donate to my trip you can donate online at www.support.pushamerica.org/goto/ randallroof. If you have any questions for me you can email me at randallroof@yahoo.com or call me at 859-866-8257. Sincerely. Randall Roof  n
