Letter from the Archon Theta Rho has seen its shares of ups and downs throughout its life, and this semester was no different. With 49 members we are the second largest fraternity on campus and are poised to grow to new heights in the coming semesters. This semester saw the Mu class welcomed into the folds of our brotherhood, bringing even more diversity and friendship to our chapter. Spring 2014 also saw a very successful No Boundaries Week as well as a fun and exciting Greek Week where we were paired with Alpha Chi Omega! Both events saw our brothers come together to strive toward a common goal. We saw a large surge of on campus involvement which included our brother Jared Szymanski being elected to the Speaker of the Western Student Association Senate! While we did not have anyone participate in a national Push event this summer, we did have three of our brothers attend Pi Kapp College Session 1 and I attended Session 2 as the Intern. These national leadership programs offer our brothers the opportunity to develop their leadership skills as men and to further expand their knowledge and understanding of the greater Fraternity that is Pi Kappa Phi On the whole, our chapter is poised for future success and I can’t wait to see us reach ever higher! Yours in Pi Kappa Phi, Tyler Sauer

Mike Lane is our newly elected Push Chair for the upcoming semester. He has great plans in mind as well as using the knowledge of the past to update and promote Push America for the fall. As a chapter we raised 1169.00$ for PUSH!! Also we helped as a chapter to reach 213 service hours! No Boundaries Week went very well and tried some new things and had some good improvement and need to improve other parts but it’s a learning process. We made a good relationship with Best Buddies and Special Olympics this past semester, and I hope to implement a PUSH Pageant for next semester during No Boundaries Week.

Spring 2014 Recruitment Report This Spring as we saw was very far from it. It was cold, snowy, and quite a task to bring new gentlemen to see our humble abode. Despite mother nature though, we succeeded in initiating 8 wonderful men into our chapter. The Mu Class are very diverse and have overcome their own set of challenges this semester. Now being a 44 man strong chapter, we are very prepared into going to our second round of Formal Recruitment in the Fall. Currently we have two bids already signed for the Fall which puts us ahead of the game!

Our chapter goal by the end of this upcoming year is to sustain a chapter of 50-60 men; thereby, coming closer to our goal of sustaining a 70 man chapter someday very soon. With the help of the Alumni and our great support here at home, the chapter is going to skyrocket to some amazing places. Yours in Brotherhood Victor Tran Vice Archon

BLAST FROM THE PRESENT

Fellow brothers and friends of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity,

Many great things have been accomplished within the proceeding year along with high hopes and expectations for years to come! As stated within this newsletter, the Theta Rho Chapter is constantly striving to redefine fraternity at Western Michigan University; however, this means little without the support of those who matter to us most! Without your help, a positive legacy is even harder to maintain and goals once prevalent may fall to the wayside. The insight and worldly experiences you can provide our Active Members can never be understated! Realizing your value, the chapter has decided to make an investment in its family and friends for the future. A newsletter like this is to be expected every semester along with monthly updates on the Alumni Facebook page. Our Twitter and Chapter Facebook page will also allow you all to have regular insight into chapter news! Please be sure to check out all the links that this newsletter provides in order to stay up to date. Many future events are still to come that we would love to see you attend!

I ask all of our members to think back to their moment of initiation. The link that connects us all together in a common brotherhood was being draped in those initiation robes and stepping from the known to the unknown. I personally was unaware of what was in store for me that night but I did know I trusted those who surrounded me, those who recruited me, and those who would now initiate me. This brotherhood is meant to build men into leaders not only on their campus, but in their communities as well! We are connected to each other long past our college years for we know the oath we have taken towards our Fraternity’s letters is a life long commitment. The chapter is in a position where those sacred robes have become tattered and worn from years of creating leaders and need replacement. We are now asking for your generosity at any financial level in order to purchase new ones. Thank you for your continued commitment to Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity! This past semester becoming active in Pi Kappa Phi Theta Rho and being elected Historian made me feel like I had a lot to prove. Keeping the relationship strong between the current active chapter and now the recently started alumni chapter is vital and I hope to start a good trend that will follow on after my time has passed. Any alumni I appreciate if you can keep up to date contact information so we may keep you updated on anything going on in the chapter. I had a great time and learned quite a few things including event planning which I had previously had no experience in before. I hope to improve on my mistakes and struggles in the fall and continue to be the best Historian I can possibly be for the Theta Rho chapter of Pi Kappa Phi. Yours in Brotherhood Luis Coronado Historian Please feel free to contact Brad, Tyler, or me whenever you want to get information on what is going on or if you want to throw us an update on your contact information.
